//-------------------------------------------------------// A Living Nightmare -by The Pony of Darkness- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// The Nightmare Begins //-------------------------------------------------------// The Nightmare Begins You're dumbfounded by her question. Where do you begin? There are so many questions you could be asking instead. "I'm a human.... Um, where the hell am I?" "You will not speak to the Queen in such a manner!" Another weird horse shouted behind her. His eyes glared at you with his yellow eyes. "Hey! Your not the one in a jail cell right now, bucko!" You shout back. "Silence!" She shouts. You step back a bit in surprise. Who knew that a horse could scream that loud? She then looks back at you. "Clearly, you are not from our world. I have never heard of this word ''human." She pauses and continues. "I am Queen Nightmare Moon. You will refer to me by that name and nothing else!" She shouts again, but not as loudly. "As much as you already seem a pain and I would much rather feed you to the timberwolves. I will keep you alive only because you are a new species. And I am sure my student will take an interest in you." "Student?" Is all you could manage to say. "Guards! Stay here and watch this 'human.' I must talk to my student that we have a change of plans for this beautiful night!" She stamps her hoof and starts to walk away. "Yes, my queen!" They both say in unison. However, once she left. They both glared at you as if you had done much worse then saying a few words. You decided to sit down on the really small bed, even though it doesn't even feel like a bed. You could tell it was made of some type of granite. You begin to think yourself knowing you will just wake up from this nightmare and you'll be at home, safe and sound. But you had this gut feeling that this will be a long nightmare. You look back at the two guards that are still glaring at you. You want to say something to them, but you know you'll get yelled at. So what is the point? You make a mental note to write "most random nightmares I had list" when you wake up. Time slowly moves on for you and you can't figure what is worse. The fact you are bored out of your mind and in a jail cell or that you're in a jail cell for no darn reason other than existing. Man, your nightmares are harsh. You start to hear some echoing of what sounds like footsteps, you turn your head and you see the two guards that are not glaring at you anymore and are back to their stature like positions. You see the Queen come back into the room with this serious look on her face. She looks at you first and then her guards. "Did they cause any trouble?" She turns her head to her guards. "No, my queen." They both say in unison again. You smile, wondering how long it took for them to just say something like that together. "I want this human to be watched carefully as I take them to my student." "Yes, my queen." They say in unison once more. She looks back at you. "What are you smiling about?" She gives you a cold look. Your face quickly turns serious. "Nothing." You managed to say. She still gives you the same look. You expect her to say more. But she doesn't, she turns her head to the hallway that she came from and begins to walk away. The guards walk to your cell door and you hear the sound of a door unlocking. You get up and see the guard on the left holding a big key with their mouth. You decided not to question how a horse managed to unlock a door so quickly. You start to walk quickly to catch up to the queen and the guards do the same, though you decided to keep a distance, just in case. You look around a bit as you continue walking, though there isn't much to see. The walls and the floor are completely gray, you decided to look past Queen Nightmare Moon and you see some stairs. But you noticed they are more spaced out. That is when you realize they are perfect for a horse, but not for you. It takes much more work just to get up a flight of stairs since it is more spaced out, you could actually take two feet forward for one step of the stairs. To you, this is two stones for one bird, instead of the other way around. You haven't even been here for a day and you already are struggling with the simplest things! The headache you have does not help you either. Once you finally get up to the top, you instantly noticed how much more colorful it is compared to the cell room. And by colorful, all you see is cool colors. There are no warm colors, which you wonder why. Then as you look around a bit more, you see many moon shaped things. Even the tapestries have a moon on them! You walk a bit more with the queen until you are suddenly in the center of some granitic room. And that is when you see it. A throne fit for a queen, and it is huge! But then you see another type of horse sitting right next to it. Much smaller than the queen herself. It's purple with a horn on top of its head with black hair and just one streak of purple. You're guessing that is the student since it stands out much more than the guards surrounding the area. "So this is the thing that calls itself "human?" The purple horse said. Her voice sounded almost as mean as her queen. She begins to walk closer and down the steps until she is just a few inches to you. "Not as beautiful as I expected." She said and snarked. "Hey!" You shout. She ignores you and looks to her queen. "I am sorry, my queen. But I do not find this "human" interesting. I have more important things to do. I am sure you can agree, my queen. You should feed them to the timberwolves." The queen and her student look at you with a cold look. "Then that is what I-" "Wait!" "Just hear me out! I could..." You pause for a second trying to think of something. "I could become your servant!" You shout. Desperate for your life. "I already have plenty. I do not need another one." The queens said in annoyance. "Then...! What about a personal servant? One that will follow you wherever you go?" The queen opened her mouth but no words came out. She stopped for a moment. "Yes.... That could work." "My queen! You can't be serious!" The purple horse protests. "Silence Twilight!" The queen shouts and looks back at you. "I have decided! You will be my personal servant and you will follow me wherever I go." The queen said. You smile in satisfaction. "But! If I am not satisfied, I will take pleasure in watching you get ripped to shreds by the timberwolves!" She shouts and smiles evilly. You gulp in fear. "Come into my bedchambers. We have much to do.... Human!" With her mind decided, she turns around to one of the pathways on the right. She beings to walk again and so do you. You turn your head back to see Twilight smiling. You frown at her and turn your head back again. You once again look past the queen and you see more flight of stairs. You curse under your breath. Once you were up to the very long stairs, you went past many doors and turn many corners until you finally reach a bigger door and much more decorated. The queen stops, giving you sign that this is her bedchambers. "I and this human will come in alone. You two will guard my bedchambers." She gives them a cold glare. They quickly get in their positions and take each side of the door. She smiles and her horn suddenly glows, the handle of the door glows with same blue light and it opens. You're taken back by surprise. But at least you know what that horn is for now. You walk in right behind her and you're taken back by how pretty her room is. You first noticed the bed. It looked like a queen size bed and the covers had a crescent with some purple around it and the rest of the covers was black and so did the pillow. You then looked around some more. There was a carpet under you feet with the same symbol and colors. You looked up to see a balcony. The moonlight shined on the patio but you could only see the stars. Seeing the stars makes you smile but you wonder how late it is. "Queen Nightmare Moon.... When will it be daytime?" You ask politely. She stops walking. You don't know why, but feel the tension in the air. Her head was still facing the other way and she looks at you with the corner of her eye. "There will never be a daytime." She says coldly. "What!? Why?" You ask in confusion. Silence fills the air for a few seconds. "Since you are not from here, I will forgive that last question. But-" She quickly turns to you and gets close to your face. "Do not ever mention the sun ever again." Her blue eyes give you a threating glare. "O-okay." You say in fear. "Good." She moves her face away from yours, but her expression hasn't changed. "We have much to do." She turns her head away from you and looks at a brown bookshelf. You see it is filled with many books. She looks at few different books before she pulled one out with her magic. She put it closer to her face and blew on it, you see many dust particles fall off it. She then looks at you and drops the book on the floor in front of you. It makes a loud thud. The book looks like it has more the 500 pages! You get closer and read the title of the book out loud. "How to become a proper servant of Nightmare Moon. Huh, how straightforward." "That book will tell you everything. I suggest you start reading... After all, your life depends on it." She smiles and chuckles. You shiver in response. "Now. I must make sure you look like a proper servant by tomorrow. Stay in my bedchambers and do not touch anything!" She says and exits the room. You hear the door lock. You sigh in frustration. You hate to admit it. But you've been lying to yourself this whole time. This isn't a nightmare. It's a living nightmare. The one minute your home safe and sound and then the next you must read a book as if your life depended on, but it actually did. You stare at the cover for a moment. So many questions run through your head. Though one seems to stick to your mind much more than any others. Why were you here? There are so many other people in the world that could have been in your position. Though it was you. You shake your head in frustration. You need to focus on what is in front of you. You greatly cared for your life and you just wanted to get back home. At least you aren't a toy like you are here. You open the book and begin to read. "How could the queen so easily get tricked by that thing?" Twilight said out loud in frustration. She dropped a book on her bed with her magic. *knock, knock* Twilight turns her head to the door. "Come in!" She shouts from her bed. The door slowly opens and reveals a white unicorn. "Oh. It's just you. What do you want, Rarity?" Twilight said in annoyance. "Queen Nightmare Moon sent me to tell you that she has canceled your meeting with her in the library tomorrow." "Great... Can't this get any worse?" Twilight said and put her face on the pillow. Rarity looked at Twilight with sad eyes. "I know I am just a servant Twilight. But if you need somepony to talk to, I will be there." Twilight lifted her head to Rarity and smiled. "I know." As much as you hated reading this book already, what made it worse is that you would have to memorize certain details. But as you continued reading there was a moment or two that the author sounded afraid. As if they wrote this book out of fear. You don't think you've ever read a book made out of fear, usually in your world, books were made for a good cause or just doing it for fun. Maybe that is why you didn't feel as bored. It showed a new side you haven't seen in your life. At least about books. You turn the page once more with your hand. You see chapter two written in the page. You smile knowing you are getting closer. You decided to go over what you read, just in case. The first few pages talked about manners and how you should never interrupt the Queen while she is speaking. Most of it seem like common sense. Nothing you couldn't handle. You were just about to start reading chapter two, but something caught your eye. From the bookshelf, you noticed something small and shiny. You get up and investigate. As you get closer you notice it is a small bracelet. It has a crescent moon with blue beads filling the rest of the bracelet. You realized if Nightmare Moon hadn't pulled the book out of the shelf, you would have never seen it. You wonder why a bracelet would be in such a place. Did Nightmare Moon try to hide it, but forgot it was there when she pulled out the book? You're not sure, but either way, you decided to take it and give it back to her when she comes back in the room. You wanted to put in your pocket but you were also afraid you'll lose it, so you decided to put it on your left wrist. You then went back to your spot on the floor and continued reading. "Do you think that human will win?" "Nah. I doubt it. If I know my queen. Mistakes and forgiveness are not in her ally." "Yeah. Your right. I bet that thing doesn't even know the first thing about a servant!" The two guards chuckle. "I don't even get why we have to guard her bedchambers in the first place. That thing will be screwed either way!" The two guards begin to laugh. You sigh hearing the two guards laugh behind the door. It's not like you had a choice or anything to be stuck here. Out of frustration you closed the book and carefully put it back to the shelf. You then turned your head and looked at the queen size bed. It looked extremely comfortable, definitely much better than the floor you slept on in the jail cell. You could take a small nap, you know it might be a while before she comes back. Though she will be furious if she found out you were sleeping in the bed. But you could hear the bed calling for you. You start to feel drowsy just by looking at the bed. And you realize that you no longer have an option. You climb into the bed and put the covers over you. You knew it wouldn't be long before you fell asleep. You slowly open your eyes and stretch a bit. You feel as though you slept for centuries. You get up and look around. The room still looks the same, and the book is still there. You make the bed and smile. You are unsure how long you slept or what time it is, but since you have been here, you no longer care. You decided to grab the book and continue reading on the floor. Though deep inside you knew you won't be reading for long. You were already getting quite bored in this room. You read up to chapter three and closed the book. You stretch and look around the room once more. You notice the balcony again and after some thinking, you decided to get some fresh air. You walk over to it and open the glass door. You take a deep breath and smile. It's a bit cold but you're glad anyways. You then close the glass door behind you and walk towards the railing. You put your arms on the railing and look up to see the night sky. The moon is full and you see many stars shining with it. The moon has a strange symbol on it. Your want to know why, but you don't remember ever seeing the night so beautiful. It's is not even close to the same amount of stars you in your world. You smile fades away as you quickly think of home. You hate to admit it, but you are homesick. "Do you enjoy my night?" You jump in fear. You turn to the source of the voice and you see the queen. "Jeez! At least warn me before you scare me like that!" You say in annoyance. She chuckles in amusement. "As much as you are annoying more than anything. You are also quite amusing at times." She says and smiles at you. "Good to know I am laughable." You mumble and look away. She then walks to railing but she keeps her distance with you. "You haven't answered my question." "Huh? Oh.... Yeah." You pause for a moment. "There are much more stars here than in my world. It is much more pretty here too." You then look at her and wait for a response. "I always make sure my subjects are treated with the bests nights I can give them." You look at her in confusion. "Wait you can control the night?" "Yes, I can. I have been able to for more than thousand years. You said you also have the night sky, how is that any different from your world?" You face her and put your elbow on the railing and your hand on the side of your face. "WELL! LET ME TELL THEN!" You shout at her. "Frist off, we do not have magical horses that talk. We live on a planet called 'Earth' where humans can speak this language there. Second, we always have day time and night time no matter what!" "I see... Our worlds are very different. " She says and falls silent. "I doubt you will ever be able to go back to your world since I do not know how you even got here in the first place. You might as well learn our world's rules." She begins to walk away and back into the room. "Come! I have much to teach you!" You sigh and follow her back into the room. "Wait. So three types of ponies were at war because of their differences? Wow. That sounds familiar in my world." "That is right. Though that age has long passed. Now in Equestria, I rule as queen and make sure my subjects are.... well behaved." She says in a mysterious tone. Now with a lot of your questions answered. With the magic, races, and these things called "cutie marks," you now know of. You feel much happier. But there is one more question that is quite obvious. You know the queen will not take it well. But you believe it is best for you to know "You can't fool me. There must be more history..... I mean the night sky is beautiful and all. But what happened to the daytime? I have a right to know! You know?" You say sheepishly. She glares at you and sighs. "I suppose your right. I would rather have you not say something stupid in front of my subjects. But..." She pauses and glares at you once more. "I will let this one slide. Do not say anymore or ask any more questions about the daytime after we are done if this conversation. Just like I said before. If you continue to do so. I will show you how my subjects are well behaved and how I am the queen." She said coldly and gives you an evil smile. You gulp in fear once again. You forgot how scary she can get! "A very long time ago in the land Equestria. Two princesses ruled over the land. The princess of the sun and moon. As you could obviously guess. I was the princess of the moon. We shared the time together every single day and night. Though I was not treated fairly. All the subjects looked up to her. I became angry and jealous that no one was enjoying my night. They slept through it every time." "Were you always called Nightmare Moon back then?" You asked. She stayed silent for a moment. "Yes. I have been always called that ever since I became the princess of the moon. All my subjects know that." She said and continued. "I then tried to fight her. I lost to the Elements of Harmony and was banished to the moon for a thousand years." "A thousand- what?! That is a really long time! You didn't deserve a sentence that long! I am sure a year would have ben fine!" You shout in surprise. She chuckles in your response. "Good. I am glad you feel the same way." After a thousand years later. The stars aid in my escape and I came back to Equestria. My sister tried to fight me again with the Elements of Harmony, but she failed. The elements no longer worked with her and instead banished her to the moon. Since then I had banished the sun to never been seen again. And I became queen." "Will she ever return again?" You ask. "She will just like I did. I am prepared for a battle with her again, this time with my subjects. But since I can't send her to the moon. She will go to the dungeon until she has fully paid for what she has done to us!" She shouts. "Us?" You say in confusion. "Don't you mean "me?" She looks surprised for a moment. "Yes. That is what I meant," she says confidently. An awkward silence fills the room for a few moments. "Well... What do we do now?" You ask, trying to break the silence. "Oh. That is right. I almost forgot. We must change you into proper clothes." "What?" The queen stands up from the carpet and walks to the door and opens it. You get up and follow her. Not excited for what is coming next. Author's Note Thanks for reading my story. Tell me what you think in the comments. If there are any spelling errors, please tell me.
