Chrysalis paced back and forth in confusion... ever since that human named Isaiah caught her in a vulnerable moment and chose to spare her instead of ending her she has been feeling strange. Why would he do that? We are enemies? What am I feeling? Why does my chest feel warm when I think about him? Why do I want to find him again so badly? She thought of many questions, but her mind gave no answers.
The changeling queen shook her head and remembered that moment...
~The memory~
"You... have me..." she gasped. A shining silver blade was pressed to her throat as she lay down, her leg broken, in a dark pit. A human male standing over her, his eyes flashed brightly and his weapon glowed with the light of a hundred suns. Chrysalis could feel the power of the blade, she knew it was meant to kill immortals and torment their souls. And this man was her enemy, he had sword to serve Celestia. This man stayed in the same castle as Twilight. This man... had eaten dinner with Cadence's family. And now... he stood over her...
The kill would be so easy, the blade's heat already was beginning to cut through her. Then it was gone... the blade retreated into the marking on the mans arm. "No..." he said, his eyes filling with compassion. "I won't claim another life this day... I refuse..."
The queen was confused, "But I am your enemy!"
He shook his head, "I hope for that to change, I don't wish to fight you anymore. I would rather find a way to help you, a way to care for your children. A way to settle these disputes peacefully with no bloodshed." The man then ran off. And Chrysalis felt a warmth within her that she never felt for anyone before.
~Back to Reality~
"Is it possible... that I feel love?" she asked herself... even though she had fed on it for years, she did not know how it felt. Could this be it? She resolved that she would have to find him... make him hers.
She flew to Ponyville, disguised as a pegasus mare. She knew the human lived with Twilight. When she got there she asked around. It seemed he was patrolling the Everfree Forest. Soon she arrived at Everfree, and she saw him. She allowed herself to use her true form to try to talk to him. "Isaiah?" she asked.
He turned around and looked her over cautiously. "yes? Are you here to fight me?"
She blushed and shook her head, "No... I wanted you... to... become... become..." her voice trailed off. This was harder then she thought. Her mind seemed blank, her heart raced... and she felt warm when she looked at his face. Yet the love only came from within her, none was coming from him.
"Become what?" the human questioned, his face not showing any emotion at all.
"Become my king!" she suddenly burst out. "I want you to be mine and give me your love!"
Isaiah staggered a bit, it was obvious he was not expecting that so his emotionless mask was broken for a moment. "You... love me?"
The queen blushed... "No... I never said that... I feed on love you know... I only want to feed my children..." she was trying her best to hide her emotions. "But... I will try my best... to make you happy... so that you stay... with me?" Chrysalis was surprised by her own voice, it came out sweet and gentle, like a soft coo of a dove or pigeon.
"Trust me... you don't want my love..." Isaiah said as he turned around and began to leave.
"No wait!" she cried, "I can be anypony you want me to be! Do you like Twilight? I can be her?" she said as her voice and body changed to match Twilight's. "What about the white mare you swore your loyalty to? I can be her as well, surely you might want me to be her?" she pleaded and she shifted into the form of Celestia. "How about the princess of the night?" she asked as Luna. "Or maybe the one who represents love? Please?" tears welled up in her eyes as she became Cadence.
The man just stood there and faced her. So she ran to him, tackled him to the ground, and wept in her natural form. "Please?"
Isaiah's face grew solemn. "I am willing to give my love..." the queen's eyes filled with hope, "but I won't... it will kill you." The changeling began to cry again.
"I... don't understand."
"Anyone I have ever loved... has died... so I refuse to give it that way no one else dies." the human's mask faded, revealing sadness. "I want to love, but anyone it touches in my life dies. My first crush, my family, everyone... my enemies are to powerful and come to take them from me... and I can't save them. I... failed... them... all..."
For the first time in her life Chrysalis felt a deep compassion for some one else. She knew for certain how she felt. "They can't take me away..." she pulled him into a kiss. He did not fight back... but instead she felt him kiss back, When they separated she decided to be honest, still laying on top of him. "I love you... I realize that... I have fed on love but when you spared me it was the first time I felt it for another. Let us share love... please?"
The human nodded, his brown eyes seemed filled with light, and his auburn hair shifted with the motion of his head.
Chrysalis smiled... and kissed him again. This time their tongues entwined... and she felt love poring from him into her, and also from her into him.
"I won't fight you anymore... you or your friends..." she promised. "I don't have to. I give up on trying to conquer Equestria... for you my love."
"And I will remain yours, and love you. But you don't have to be anypony else, just be yourself," the human smiled sweetly.
Though he knew that she could not keep her promise, but he would keep his. He knew she would sometimes slip back into her old ways, and it would be up to him to pull her back. He was fine with that, the only thing he feared... was that his dark side would assume control again and join her when she goes back to her old ways. But hopefully that would never happen.
And right now none of that mattered, as they embraced in the Everfree. Their love flowing through each other. But was a relationship between a changeling and a curded human possible? Can they be happy together? Will they fall apart? Or will their love stand against time and overcome their differences?
