This fic explores some of the mythology behind the Christian interpretation of Hell. I say mythology because nothing of what I describe in the story is explicitly stated in the Bible. The name "Tartarus" is only mentioned once in all of scripture, but hey, once is enough.

It also aims to explain some of the more ambiguous topics in the show, such as who the alicorn sisters are. I understand that it's a big mystery, so I thought I would give a religious spin to it.

If you have read Dante's Inferno, you may find more enjoyment in this story, but you are not at all required to read it. Everything is described as clearly as possible with as much adherence to the original poem as possible (more or less). I have also tried to set up the story in such a way that could potentially work within the canon of the show.

The original cover art was illustrated by Gustave Doré, who died over 100 years ago. I just slapped a pony on it. Enjoy!
