A Wedding Here in Ponyville

Previous Chapter

When we arrived, I didn’t notice what Indy had. There was no fighting, but there was a donkey that I instantly recognized as Cranky Doodle running through the crowd. He still had his golden hair that Pinkie had given him. I looked back at our group. None of us had changed since we had gone through the portal. Due to the Equestria Girls universe, I found this odd. We decided to follow him to see what was going on. We soon arrived at Cranky’s cottage. We decide to peek into the windows to see inside and help figure things out. We saw Matilda, Cranky’s sweetheart, holding a page of a book open while she looked at Cranky. Despite the windows, we could easily make out their conversation.

“I’ll never understand the ponies in this town!” Cranky said, slamming the door.

“I don’t blame you,” Owen said under his breathe. Indy, Liza, and I gave him a sarcastic frown, pretending to be upset at his remark

“Everywhere I went, they were all gussied up and lookin’ at me funny!” Cranky continued, “Kept asking if I was ‘nervous’!”

“Did they forget the wedding is tomorrow?” Matilda asked. I was shocked by this. If we had arrived sooner, we might have received an invitation. As it was, though, I was just happy to be living in Equestria now.

“Maybe they’re just as excited for us to be married as I am,” Cranky said, as the two donkeys nuzzled each other. I giggled at the shared affection.

“Well, they’re going to feel awfully silly when they realize they’ve got the wrong date,” Matilda said, turning back to the book. She stared into the book and let out a gasp. “The invitations are wrong!” She held up the book, which held the invitations inside. “This says the wedding is today!”

“Sounds like they’ll need help,” I said, as the others look certain of this conclusion as well.

“They’ll need our help,” Indy stated, getting a nod from everyone.

“C’mon everyone!” I shouted, running back to Ponyville. We heard the door open, with Matilda running out of her house, looking frantic.

We ran back into town, where we noticed the ponies all rushing to and fro throughout the town, desperate to get the wedding ready. Suddenly, a blue blur raced out of the sky, heading right for me.

“Woah!” the blur shouted as it narrowly dodged me, crash landing on the ground. Once on the ground, I had a better look at the figure. It was my favorite pony, Rainbow Dash.

“Rainbow Dash!?” I gasped, not even trying to hide my excitement.

“That’s my name, don’t wear it out…” Rainbow said in a daze. She shook her head and looked towards me. “Wait, I haven’t seen any of you in town before. Who are all of you?”

“Well,” Maul said, “this is Charlie, Delta, and Echo,” he motioned to my sisters who smiled at the pegasus, “these are Mark, Harrison, and Carrie, Scar, Owen, Claire, Rexy, Indy, Liza, and Finn,” he motioned to each in turn, “I am Maul and this is my mate Blue.”

“Rainbow Dash,” I said, holding back an exciting squeal, “you have no idea how much of a fan of you I am. You are the best pony in all of Equestria!”

“Heh, thanks,” Rainbow said, “it’s always nice to meet a fan! But, today, I’m kinda busy, there’s a mysterious creature from Tartarus coming and I and my friends need to help fight it.” She turned to walk away.

“Hold on,” Indy said, “maybe, I and Liza can help you? You could use all the help you can get!”

Rainbow thought this over, “I don’t know,” she finally said, “you’d have to ask Twilight.”

“Ask me what?” Twilight asked, flying down towards us.

“If we can help in your fight!” Liza said.

“Twilight,” Rainbow said, motioning to us, “these are Blue, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Owen, Claire, Rexy, Indy, Liza, Finn, Scar, Mark, Harrison, and Carrie. Blue thinks I’m awesome.” I giggled at this, considering it was the same level of ego I came to expect from Rainbow Dash.

“Alright,” Twilight said, “you seem big and strong, if you can handle it, you can help us fight! Now, as for all of you, Claire, Owen, head to the castle, you can’t miss it. Spike will let you in, just say ‘Twilight sent you’” The two nodded. ”Charlie, Delta, Echo, head for the City Hall. It’s the big building with the porch. Lyra and Bon Bon could use a helping hoof.” The two nodded. “Everyone else but Blue and Maul, help out around town. Everyone meet outside the castle after you’re done.” Carrie, Mark, Harrison, and Scar nodded. “Blue, Maul, feel free to explore Ponyville.” We nodded, as well.

Indy and Liza cheered. I knew they would be great assets, especially considering what one of them could weather. With both working together, not even Equestria’s strongest dragons would stand a chance. The groups left to rendezvous with the rest of the Mane Six and to help out in any way they could. Soon after, we decided to move to the nearby restaurant to grab a bite to eat. There, sitting at a table, were Doctor Hooves and Derpy Hooves. I wondered if we had lucked out and found a universe where they were a part of a large family.

“I really messed up on those invitations!” Derpy gasped in exasperation, “I feel just awful, Doc!”

“Aww, poor Derpy,” I said, also having a fondness for the wall-eyed pegasus.

“Excuse me, are you speaking to us?” the Doctor asked, turning towards us.

“No, no, but we don’t mind joining you,” Maul said, trying to help lessen the awkwardness of the situation. Derpy motioned us over.

“So, what happened,” I asked.

“Well,” Derpy said, “there’s a wedding going on.”

“We know,” Blue said, “it’s between Cranky and Matilda.” Derpy nodded.

“Well,” Derpy continued, “I told Cranky I could get the invitations printed for cheap, but the problem was that meant I had to get somepony with no experience using a printing press. That’s why there’s this big mix-up with the invitations.” She bowed her head in embarrassment. “Oh, I wish there was a way I could go back in time and fix all this!”

The Doctor tapped the front of his muzzle with his hoof in contemplation. “Derpy, my dear, I believe I know just how to fix this!” He shouted triumphantly. “Of course, we’ll deal with it after lunch.” We sat down with them, not having a lunch of our own when the Doctor stared contemplatively at me. I thought nothing of it until the walk to his house. “You two aren’t fooling anyone. You’re genetic creations of long dead species who have gained the ability to carve out your own lives, no doubt a result of you being able to speak. One thing is certain about you two, though, you’re much more civil than most members of your species. I can tell by looking at Maul that he was once fierce, but has changed now. I myself am not what I say I am. I’m a Time Lord, or rather, the fragment of one, the result of a regeneration after my ninth form was destroyed. I was ‘born’ here around the time of Star Swirl the Bearded. I met Celestia and Luna as a unicorn and pegasus filly back before they were what they are today. A century later, I met Derpy and we fell in love, we have several wonderful children, one of which is helping organize the wedding. Some of them will be attending the wedding, although our third-oldest has to stay home due to sickness caused by time travel.”

“I told you not to bring Dinky back to prehistoric times,” Derpy chided.

“Well, we’re going to go now,” I said. We turned and walked away from the group, waving them goodbye.

“Alright, I’ll see you around you two!” The Doctor yelled back.

We walked away and found ourselves walking amongst the beauty of Ponyville. We looked up at a nearby mountain and saw Canterlot. We noticed a set of chariots leaving it. No doubt the princesses were coming to the wedding. The idea that they weren’t born princesses astounded me. Maul and I watched the princesses, with their royal guards, fly down to Ponyville. We tried to rush forward to meet them but were blocked by the citizens of Ponyville. The Cutie Mark Crusaders were among the crowd, as were Octavia and Amethyst Star, no doubt the daughter the Doctor mentioned. Indy, Liza, and the Mane Six have gathered around. I realized that this must have been a rendezvous spot for the group.

“Do we know what they’re on about?” Octavia asked.

Apple Bloom answered her, “The way they’re huddled up like that, I’d say it’s either a friendship problem or a monster attack.”

“A monster attack?!” Octavia gasped, “Blast! I’m performing at the ceremony this afternoon, and I still haven’t sorted out what to play. How am I meant to practice with a monster invading Ponyville?”

“Maybe it’s just a friendship problem, and it’ll all be cleared up in half an hour or so,” Sweetie Belle said, gaining a chuckle out of me.

Suddenly, the monster appeared. It appeared to be a cross between a bee and a bear. Maul and I scurried away from the fight. I turned to look behind me when I saw Maul leaping at the creature, lending his aid in the fight. I continued to crawl away from the scene until I was heading in the direction of the princesses. On the way, I ran into Cranky.

“You there,” Cranky called out, catching my attention, “I need you to help me.”

“What with?” I asked.

“Well, with getting everything settled for the wedding, of course!” Cranky shouted, clearly worried about the wedding.

“Alright, well what do you need help with?” I asked him. I need someone to clear the way so I can get through the crowd. I looked behind me and I could see that the crowd dispersed itself due to the fighting, likely due to the falling Raptor and Indominus rexes. “Never mind then.”

I shrugged it off and continued running on my way to the princesses. I soon reached them.

“Well, hello there!” Princess Celestia greeted me. “Who are you?”

“I’m Blue, your majesty,” I said, “A humble Raptor that considers herself a major fan of yours.” The sun princess giggled. “But, not more so than you, Luna. To me, you are truly the best princess.” Luna smiled at me as Celestia giggled again.

“C’mon Blue,” Celestia said, “walk with us, talk with us. Tell me, where’d you come from?”

“Well, I’m not from this world,” I explained, “I’m actually from the human world. I’m a Velociraptor, a long-extinct species that was brought to life. I’m the youngest member of my species to be as friendly as I am. Most members of my species at my age are vicious killers. My mate was like that, back when he was corrupt. He turned good long before he met me. Kinda like you, Luna.”

Luna blushed at this, realizing that I knew about Nightmare Moon. “How’d you know about my turn?” She asked.

“Because I knew you as cartoon characters before I met you,” I explained. “In my world, you ponies are nothing but cartoon creatures. Sorry to startle you about that, but it’s true.”

“I understand,” Princess Celestia said, “it seems unusual, but I do understand.”

I smiled at her, happy that she understood my predicament. Soon, we had reached where the battle with the creature began. Suddenly, a large booming sound echoed throughout Ponyville. It grew louder and louder as we entered the Town Hall, where the ponies were gathered. There were a lot fewer than I had expected. The booming sound continued to grow, to near deafening levels as several ponies entered their seats, seemingly catapulted in, along with Vinyl and Octavia. The sound from the machine Vinyl left a ringing in my ear. Maul ran into the room by my side.

“How’d it go?” I asked him.

“We defeated the Bugbear with barely any trouble!” Maul shouted, loud enough for everyone to hear. Everyone let out a cheer at the news. I looked around and noticed that my family, with the exception of Maul, and the Mane Six were still absent. I knew that my family was waiting at the castle, so I wasn’t worried about them. Mayor Mare was at the front of the room, surely taking the place of the bishop. Cranky and Matilda were at her sides, looking back at the audience.

“Well, is everypony here?” Mayor Mare asked. I heard the door close behind us.

“All set, Mayor!” Derpy announced.

“Dearly beloved,” Mayor Mare started, “we are gathered here today to join these two in maretrimony. As I look around this room, I can only imagine how uncomfortable Cranky must be.” I heard laughter from some parts of the room. “But I also see so many ponies from all trots of life, brought together by love. Cranky searched all across this great land of ours to find Matilda, and no matter what obstacles kept them apart, love would finally bring them together, just as it has brought all of us together now. It's remarkable to me how a story like Cranky's search for Matilda could fill this room with such a unique collection of ponies! It makes you realize that everypony is the star of their own story. And it's not just the main characters in our stories that make life so rich! It's everypony – those who play big parts and those who play small. If it weren't for everypony in this room and many more who couldn't be here today, Cranky and Matilda's lives wouldn't be as full and vibrant as they are.” I smiled at the group. I may not personally know them, but I felt like I knew them well enough to consider them my friends. “And so, in front of all these loved ones... Cranky, do you take this donkey to be your lawfully wedded wife?”

“You bet I do!” Cranky said.

Mayor Mare turned to Matilda. “And do you, Matilda, take this donkey to be your lawfully wedded husband?” the Mayor asked.

“I do!” Matilda said, tearing up.

“Then I'm proud to say, I now pronounce you jack and jenny!” Mayor Mare announced. Cranky and Matilda kissed, as Maul and I had our first real kiss. Fireworks went off during our kiss, but I was too busy listening to Maul’s calm, warm, beating heart to pay attention. I knew then that whatever Equestria had to throw at us, we would be ready to face it together.
