Ex-Onyx cadet Sofia Hendrick has survived a lot: the death of her brother, being a reporter on the ground in the Pendulum Wars, the training to become Onyx Guard, the Locust wars, surviving in the ruins of Halvo Bay- yes, Sofia has survived about everything.

However, she never would have guessed that a splinter of the COG survived in the Academy that trained her, or that they needed test subjects for what appeared to be, for all intents and purposes, a portal machine. How in the hell she's supposed to survive this one, she hasn't a clue.

Ah, well: she's got her armor, she's got her weapons, and she's going to make anything between her and a way home pay. Dearly.
