The second year of the second age
The scratching sounds of a pen on paper filled the room as a unicorn stallion with an long beard labored at his desk, his magics hard at work writing an book he promised to write a long time ago in his youth. He only paused from his work for a moment to wipe the sweat from his brow, not far from he sat was an large wicker basket where two little foals slept peacefully a unicorn who was white as snow with a pastel colored mane and the other one a midnight blue pegasus with a mane of lighter blue. The stallion smiled when he saw the blue yawn cutely before going back to sleep, she was always his favorite of the two sisters not that he didn't loved the elder one yet he loved the both of as much as any father could. He then hears the door open drawing his attentions to the visibly pregnant green unicorn mare that he was lucky enough to call his wife. she was only four months along now.
"Clover.." he says with a soft smile as she quietly as she could walked over to him at the desk, her hands digging blissfully into his aching back. He sighed happily at his beloved wife's touch. Clover the clever his own student, most of his own magus circle almost rebel against his leadership because this clear usurpation of old unicornian law which states teachers were forbidden to have 'relations' with their students, luckily he was a one of the most important stallions in both the old and the new kingdoms and Clover was the right hoof of Queen Platinum and King Hurricane themselves.
"Starswirl,'' she says sweetly before taking note of the text her husband was working on ''what are you working on now? Not another Transmutation spell is it?'', '' Remember what happen last time " Clover said with a good nature stink eye
The Stallion chuckles slightly in embarrassment " Oh good graces no," he remembered very well what happen last time, the whole village never let him forget it nor did old stallion Blueblood senior. Besides how was he suppose to know that magically gluing the old stallion's face to his hand mirror would attract a whole pack of Timberwolves to the village or more importantly the old stallion himself, yet the merriment from the memory of the old stallion screaming like a filly fades slightly, remembering why he was writing the text in the first place " it's his book." he says with some melancholy calling upon his magic, he pulled out an very old portrait from one of the cabinets and give it to his wife.
"Pan..." she says in a soft voice as she sat down with her husband, her hand gently holding the aged painting in order not to damage it " gods it's been what? ten? twenty years since we last faced him."
"Aye... it has been that long but as you see I'm finally keeping my promise..'' said Starswirl with an strange calmness to his voice'' I'm almost done, just a few more chapters are left to write."
"Do you think.. Do you think he'll ever come back?'' asked Clover looking up from the portrait, her husband could easily see the fear in her eyes. " He always hated us so."
" I don't know" said Starswirl closing his eyes, losing himself slightly in his memories of dueling the great beast that was Pan in the duty to his king and country. He could almost feel the bite of Pan's claws in his hide and the howling.. Pan was perhaps the greatest opponent that the unicorn wizard had ever fought then there was that zebra maid Zrea that always somehow was there in the shadows to thwart his plans to finally end Pan... how strange it was indeed that he was writing a book about the werewolf that plagued him so and even stranger it was the beast that brought them together in the first place. " I truly don't know but he did then we would be ready, while Queen Platinum and King Hurricane aren't King Silver or Gregory they should be able to handle Pan besides we didn't see him on the ships during the escapes from the old kingdom. "
For an time the two lovers sat in silence, it was true no pony had seen the werewolf nor Zrea on the ships. Could they truly be trapped in the wintry trap that the old kingdom was now? It was an sobering thought, no matter how cruel it may sound maybe the new kingdom was better off without that reminder of what had happen to their now lost homelands.
"could... could you read it to me?" she suddenly asked
" Are you sure?" Starswirl asked worriedly " you never-
"Yes.." Clover said softly " it's time that I've faced my fears."
"Very well but if you wished to stop then tell me and I will cease at once '' flipping the pages to the very beginning, the familiar text shined in his eyes, these words were not of his own making but the beast's Pan the werewolf with a deep breathe of air Starswirl started to read them aloud.
'The year fifteenth ninety of the first age'
I have wandered the lands for many a year, from the frosty lands of the north to the warm southern lands of the Dragon Lords but the roads get twists and turns the longer you travel them. And I know the roads very well for I had travel them since the beginning of time, I had traded words with Faust; I've dined with the windigo kings of Trak; Stormed the palaces of the elf lords and slew the great black rook of Dalneih. Yet the sands of time are such a fickle creature indeed, the once young and green mountains will bloom into grey and broken old men yet their wisdom may somehow change things. There had been many who sought the wisdoms in the world yet there are none who listen just as sound of music, yes you can play music yet the song sadly will have to end in time. I suppose that I should start from the beginning, since that is how most stories start, in the common tongue I am called Pan, son of Fenrir Fang-Breaker of Trak and this is the story of the first age's end...'
