It was a lovely autumn day in PonyVille, everypony was enjoying their day, everyone but Fluttershy. For you see, on this very day, she had received news that her best friend, Discord, had died. She was spending the entire day in her cottage trying to convince herself that it didn't happen, she didn't believe it, she just couldn't. Rainbow Dash had come by earlier that day to see how she was holding up, and Fluttershy had told her that she just wanted to be alone. Fluttershy laid on her couch watching the leaves fall, memories of Discord flooded to her, she remembered every time that she had tea with him, every time that she talked to him, every time that she hugged him.
She vividly remembered the day she met him, she was so afraid of him, but that changed when they became friends. She had been friends for twenty four years since he had been reformed. They exchanged letters to eachother quite a lot. And she couldn't believe he was just gone.
Suddenly she heard a knock at the door. "Discord? Is that you?" She asked hopefully.
"Fluttershy, darling you must get out of your cottage it's not healthy to stay inside on a beautiful day like this." It was Rarity.
"Oh it's you." Fluttershy said, disappointed.
"Well, I hope you're not too disappointed dear, I was going to take you to lunch." She said.
"I'm not hungry, sorry." Fluttershy said.
"Oh, ok darling, um. Come over if you need anything."
"Ok"
"Alright! Let's turn that frown upside down!"
"Pinkie I just want to be alone."
"Nope, you need to smile!" Pinkie said. While bouncing around the room like a drunk rabbit.
Fluttershy just started crying. "Can't you see that I miss him!?"
Pinkie stopped bouncing. "I...sorry Fluttershy, it's just we haven't seen you all day."
"We?" Fluttershy asked, Pinkie gestured to all of her friends standing at her doorstep.
"Flutters, come on, you need to get outta here." Rainbow dash said with a smile.
"Darling, come on let's do something together, it might get your mind off...him." Rarity said, her voice trailed off at the end of the sentence.
"It'll be ok." Twilight said.
"No it won't, why can't you just leave me alone?! Please." Fluttershy begged.
Twilight gestured for them to leave. Everyone left except Applejack.
"Fluttershy, ah know what yer' goin' through. So if ya need to talk I'm here for ya." She said before starting to leave.
"Wait Applejack can I ask for a favor?" Fluttershy asked.
"Sure hon' what do you need?" Applejack asked with a warm smile.
"Can you stay with me please?"
"Sure hon"
"I need you to follow me, if you don't mind that is." Fluttershy said, as she walked towards a room in her cottage that Applejack had never seen before, it was completely empty except for a small box that sat in the middle of it.
"What is this room?" Applejack asked.
"The day before Discord died, he sent this box to me, I put it in here because I was going to open it today, but I'm scared to see what's inside it. I want you to open it please?" Fluttershy explained.
"Ok." Applejack said. She carefully opened the box and began to take things out of it. The first thing she took out of it was an old letter, which Fluttershy immediately recognized as the first letter that she sent him.
"He kept that?!" She said as she began to tear up.
"Woah, are you ok hon' we can stop if you-"
"I'm fine keep taking stuff out please." Fluttershy said my politely.
The next thing Applejack took out of the box was a pair of some old ice skates.
"Those were the ice skates that Discord had given me when we were still reforming him. He kept those too." Fluttershy said, she smiled as she looked at the skates as she remembered the times that Discord tried to teach her how to ice skate.
Applejack another thing out the box, it was something that Fluttershy had never seen before, it was a letter in a red envelope, signed with Discord's signature.
"Can I see that please?" Fluttershy asked.
"Sure." Applejack said and gave her the letter.
Fluttershy opened the letter and began to read it aloud to Applejack.
My dearest Fluttershy,
If you are reading this, it means that I've died or that I'm close to dying. My apologies for not sending it sooner, as I write this I can feel my time is coming near, but that's besides the point. I'm writing this letter to confess to you something,
I've fallen in love with somepony.
She's beautiful.
She has an amazing personality.
She is the kindest pony I know.
She loves animals.
She was my first friend.
She's an amazing singer.
She's so shy that it's adorable.
She has beautiful eyes.
She has a mesmerizing stare.
She loves me for who I am not what I am.
Oh that's right, I've fallen in love with you Fluttershy, you're a blessing to me that has filled my days with joy, even after what I did to you. So I thank you. I know this must cause you more grief. I'm sorry that I was too afraid to confess while I was alive but I always kind of had a huge crush on you. So my friend, I'm sorry. - Discord Draconequus
Tears flooded down Fluttershy cheeks, causing Applejack to hug her tightly.
"He felt the same way about me." She said, her tears were coming down like a waterfall.
"You loved him didn't you?" Applejack asked.
"Y-yes and now he's gone!" Fluttershy burst out into a full sob.
"Shh. Shh." Applejack said, patting the yellow Pegasus on her back and cradling her.
"But he's gone! I'll never see him again!" She cried out.
"I know, I know hon' but, ya know, maybe things aren't what they seem." Apple jack said, holding back a chuckle.
Fluttershy looked at her. "What's so funny about this?" She cried.
"Look behind you." Applejack said with a grin.
And there standing behind them was Discord, in a tux, holding a box in his paw.
Fluttershy stared for a minute and noticed that all of her friends were staring from outside her window.
"Were all of you in on this?!" She screamed. And flung herself at Discord.
"Sorry for the scare my dear, I had been planning this for months now, but I must admit I didn't know there'd be this much crying." He said with chuckle. As he caught her.
"I hate but love all of you!" Fluttershy screamed as she hugged Discord.
"But Fluttershy. There's something else." Discord said.
Fluttershy got off of him as he bent down on one knee.
"Fluttershy, I love you so much, and now I have my confirmation that you feel the same way. Will you marry me?" He asked in a sappy voice.
Fluttershy was speechless, tears of joy streamed down her face.
"Y-yes I will! I love you!" She exclaimed.
Discord and her shared a kiss for a moment.
"Sorry for making ya cry Flutters but Discord wanted his proposal to be original." Applejack said.
"Of course he did, he's Discord there's nothing regular about him, that's why I love him." Fluttershy said as she looked her fiancé in the eye.
And then she punched him in the stomach. "But please don't ever do something like that again."
"Noted" Discord said as he laid on the ground.
