PiB: Ponies in Black
Chapter 2: Do You Serve Coffee Here?
Previous ChapterThe mare in front of Jensen showed a small smile for a split second before starting to look serious. "Mr. Jensen, why do you think you failed out of Manehattan's Police Academy?" She's asked the male unicorn slowly.
Jensen had been slightly caught off guard. For one, he didn't expect the mare to become serious within a short amount of time. As well as he never really considered why he didn't make it through the M.P.A.. "Well...Er...Because I wasn't 'good' enough to become a cop?" He looked at the lavender unicorn questioningly.
"Precisely!" This earned a new look of dismay from Jensen to her. "Well, not exactly that. It was because you were fit to do something else." Twilight paused to look at Jensen's flank, finding that he didn't have a Cutie Mark. "You see, you still have a chance to be something else. Did you ever think you weren't destined to be a police-pony?" The small smile returned to the mare's face, and stuck this time.
"Well uh...No, not really. It had always seemed the way to go. I am physically and mentally strong enough to be even the lowest of officers...What are you playing at here?" The unicorn asked the more feminine pony. He had an odd sense of nervousness taking over his body, yet he had no clue why. Twilight's smile grew slightly larger.
She simply said, "Come with me," before taking off towards the street. Jensen, at first, just watched the mare walk away, considering his options. 'Well. She seems nice enough, what do I have to fear? Also...she is kind of cute...' He shook that last thought out of his head before hurrying to catch up to Twilight. Using her magic, she pulled out what looked to be a simple button on a box out of her pocket and then placed it onto the ground. With one swift movement of her hoof, she pressed the button and backed up. The box started to morph, slowly growing in size. It quickly transformed from a medium sized, two-seat car.
"Wow." Was all that Jensen could say. It was the first time he'd seen anything like it. With a swish of her tail, Twilight walked around to the driver side door and got inside.
"Are you getting in?" The mare said, looking at the blue unicorn, who was still gawking at the sleek black car in front of him.
"Oh...Yes. I will, Twilight." He said as he snapped out of his trance and got into the passenger seat. The chair was quite comfortable, made of a material he couldn't name.
"T."
"Right. T." He looked at the mare for a second before turning to look out through the windshield. Jensen was surprised to see that they were already moving, and quite fast at that. The stallion couldn't recall T issuing any commands to the rune. All manufactured cars operated the same, the only difference being the aesthetics. "Uh...Did you tell the car to go to a destination? And where are we going anyways?"
"You could say that." Twilight winked at Jensen. "We're heading to the Empire State Building. Ever been there? I used to love it as a foal."
"Yes, I have, but why are we going there?" The unicorn looked at her questioningly.
"You'll see." And not another word was said in the car. The mare used her magic to grab her shades out of her suit pocket. They were enveloped with violet magic, the same color as her eyes before they were hidden behind the tinted glass. They arrived the skyscraper shortly. "Follow me." She said once again before exiting the car and walking towards the tall building. Jensen did the same. As they entered, the stallion took notice of the amount of people that were waiting in line to get inside the elevator that lead to the top. T walked straight up to the reception desk and simply nodded at the mare behind it. The receptionist rushed over to the elevator and pushed all of the ponies inside out back into the line.
"After you, Ma'am." The orange earth-pony said quickly. She had a sort of "cowboy" accent, as if she grew up on a farm. T walked into the elevator, beckoning Jensen to follow her, without acknowledging the receptionist again. After they had both entered the elevator, Twilight hit a button on the small console and the doors closed, shutting out the yells of "How come they get to go alone?!" and "Those bloody parasprites!". A bright blue light feeding in from the cracks of the elevator door before they started to head down. The blue unicorn sighed and looked up at the meter that told you what floor you were on at the top of the elevator.
"Are...are we going down?!" The meter showed '-8' when he looked, implying there were eight stories down, and it kept on going lower. For all he knew, the elevator only went up to the top of the skyscraper, and nowhere in between.
"Yes, we are. What, did you think we were go-" She caught herself in time, realizing that this was all new to Jensen. The mare bit her lip and pretended to study the elevator. The elevator stopped, and as the male unicorn noticed, they were already at floor '-30'. The doors opened and they walked out onto a balcony. This balcony overlooked a huge, sleek silver, room. Ponies were everywhere, carrying files, typing at what looked to be computers, but there were no keyboards, only floating blue holograms. There were also...other things. Monstrosities that seemed to come out of fairy-tales or sci-fi movies, and before the stallion could take a better look at them, a visor that reflected his face shut over the balcony. The "balcony" then proceeded to move to the right, slowly picking up speed.
"Where are we? What were those things?" Jensen asked Twilight.
"We're at the PiB headquarters. Those 'things' you saw earlier were aliens. We're an organization which watches aliens and keeps them in check in Equestria."
"What."
"Yep." T giggled for a few seconds. She quickly returned to her reserved persona. "I am serious, though. You were brought here to be recruited into our ranks."
"Give me proof, of these so-called aliens." Jensen was really skeptical, even though had seen something in the lobby earlier.
"Okay. Want some coffee?"
"Uh...sure..." Twilight waved her hoof in front of the reflective glass and a holo-keyboard showed up. She typed in 'B73' and the keyboard disappeared. "What was that?" She just smiled at him, and the moving platform came to a stop. The mare took off through the exit, with the male in tow. They walked in silence, until they reached a door that said 'Breakroom 257'. 'Why is she taking me for coffee?' T opened the door with her magic and walked on through. Jensen hurried to match her pace, and found the oddest sight he had ever seen inside. In the corner table sat two anthropomorphic aliens. One had a head not dissimilar to that of a Blue-jay, with wings where it's arms would be. The other had a large head with one eye on it, with hands for feet and feet for hands. Looking through a fridge was a dog-like thing with mandibles on it's head and four bug eyes.
"I'm gonna need that coffee right about now."
