Lemon Zest sat at the foot of her bed while she carefully applied black polish to her fingernails. Around her neck she wore a pair of pink headphones which blasted one of her favorite heavy metal songs loudly enough to catch the attention of her studious roommate.
Sour Sweet leaned against her headboard while she read, wearing only a pair of denim shorts and a black tank-top. She then dropped the textbook she was reading into her lap and tilted her head with a cheery smile. "What are you listening to?" she asked.
Lemon grinned and bobbed her head in time with the power chords. "It's Wasted Generation's best track ever: Fire Reigns!"
"Oh really?" Sour asked while her bright smile slipped into a grumpy frown. "Because it sounded to me like a recording of someone jamming a fork into a garbage disposal."
"Nah man, you just gotta wait for the face-melting guitar solo! Hold on, hold on." Lemon tilted her head and held out the headphones closer to her salty roommate. "Hold on... just a sec. Here it comes!"
"Oh my god Lemon, I don't care. Please shut it off so I can concentrate. Or at least turn it down." Sour rolled her eyes and lifted her textbook back over her face.
"Aw, you're no fun." Lemon chuckled and lowered the volume. "You know what? I don't think I ever asked you what kind of music you actually do like."
Sour shrugged and shook her head. "So? Do you really care?"
"Yeah of course! I think you can learn a lot about a person based on their favorite songs." Lemon blew on her fingertips before she tucked her nail polish away. "So what do you like?"
Sour rested her book on her knee and rubbed her chin. "I guess I like a little of everything. Everything except whatever you were just listening to, that is."
Lemon groaned and crossed her arms. "No way. I hate that answer. Even if you aren't a music lover like me, there's gotta be something you've heard at some point that really moved you. Something more... specific."
Sour bit on her thumbnail while she thought, then nodded. "Okay, well the other night you left your music playing while you went out and I actually liked one of the songs that played. I don't know the name of it or anything, but it was really cool and, like, techno-ish. I think it might have been a remix of some Countess Coloratura song or something."
"A remix?" Lemon grinned and scrolled through the a massive music library on her phone. "Was it something like this?" she asked as she played the track she sought.
Sour tilted her head and listened for a moment, then quickly nodded. "Yes! I remember that. That song is actually really catchy and fun. If you listened to more stuff like that then I wouldn't mind you playing your music loudly enough for me to hear."
Lemon shrugged and nodded. "Yeah, I get you. I just really like the music I listen to, even if it's not so popular around here..."
Sour lowered her eyebrows and smirked. "What's wrong? Don't get all butthurt because I don't like that heavy metal garbage."
"It's not garbage!" Lemon shouted and shook her head in disbelief. "Just because you don't like it..."
"Yeah yeah, I'm sorry. I don't see why you're so sensitive about it. It's not like it's actually your work I'm talking down on," Sour said.
Lemon glanced over to her guitar sitting in the corner and wore a half-frown. "Maybe someday it will be."
"Oh come on. Chin up, punk." Sour winked and stretched her legs out on her bed. "At least I like something on your playlist, right?"
Lemon chuckled and nodded. "You're right. That's actually really awesome. You know who made that remix?"
Sour shook her head.
"It was Vinyl Scratch. She's really good at remixing songs and making these upbeat EDM tracks. I don't normally listen to that stuff, but she's really been opening me up to it." Lemon smiled proudly and turned up the song.
"Wow. She really made that?" Sour asked. "That's pretty impressive."
"She's freakin' awesome, man!" Lemon exclaimed.
Sour raised her eyebrows and grinned. "So you two are really hitting it off, huh? I'm not too surprised after that shameless display of affection the last time she was over here."
"Totally!" Lemon rapidly nodded. "I can't wait to see her tonight. Oh, by the way, Vinyl's coming over again tonight."
"Really?!" Sour groaned and dragged her hands down the length of her face. "Why can't you tell me these things sooner?"
"What difference would it have made?" Lemon asked.
"Maybe I don't wanna sit here with nothing to do while you guys smooch all night. Did you ever think of that?!" Sour shouted with a vicious glare.
"Why don't you just go hang out with Sugarcoat like you normally do?" Lemon asked.
Sour widened her eyes, more annoyed than ever. "Sugarcoat goes home on the weekends. If I knew you had planned to bring your girlfriend over then I would have taken the key to her dorm. Now that's not an option."
"I'm sorry, jeez." Lemon looked down and placed her hand on her forehead. "I can't cancel on her. Plus, I really wanna see her. Isn't there something else you can do?"
Sour curled up on her bed and hugged her knees, her eyes hidden by her bangs. "No..."
"Does us kissing really bother you that much? What's the big deal? I wouldn't care if you were kissing Sugarcoat in here." Lemon stood up and walked over to her mirror, where she flared out her hair and unbuttoned her school uniform.
Sour frowned and closed her eyes. "I don't really mind that much. Honestly, I'm just a little..." Her voice trailed off, barely audible. "jealous."
"What was that?" Lemon asked while adjusting the bra beneath her light blue undershirt, her outer dress shirt wrinkled and hanging open.
"Nothing," Sour grumbled. "You know, one of these nights you two are gonna take it farther than just kissing, too. Do you really want me here for that?"
Lemon tilted her head and lifted one shoulder. "You really think so? Here?"
"Where else?" Sour asked. "Last time she visited she wasted no time mounting you and dry-humping you for half the night while you guys made out. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say she's likely ready and willing to take it further. Are you sure you want an audience-of-one while she finger-blasts you?"
Lemon covered her mouth as she burst into a fit of laughter. "Dude!"
Sour shook her head and giggled. "I'm sorry, but I'm serious."
"That's probably not gonna happen. At least not tonight." Lemon crossed her arms and shifted her weight. "Do you think it might?"
"I don't know! That's just what I want to avoid!" Sour shouted. "Look, I'll figure something out, alright. Just send me a text when it's safe to come back."
Lemon beamed and nodded. "Thanks! Man, I hope you're right about us going all the way. That'd be pretty cool, right?"
Sour rolled her eyes. "Just don't do anything on my half of the room and we'll be okay. Keep your mess over there."
Lemon took a seat next to her friend at the foot of her bed. "So... Have you and Sugarcoat done it yet?"
Sour turned bright red and looked away. "That's none of your business!"
"You totally did, didn't you!" Lemon quickly raised her eyebrows and slapped Sour's knee.
Sour stretched her legs out and shoved Lemon off of her bed. "As a matter of fact we haven't. Sugarcoat isn't ready for that, and I'm not trying to pressure her or anything."

"I don't know," Sour said as she scooted to the end of her bed and grabbed her knee socks. "I'll text Sunny and Indigo to see if either them wants to hang out. If not, I'll probably just go see a movie by myself or something."
Lemon felt her heart sink and she winced. "I'm sorry, man. I didn't mean to mess up your Saturday. I really didn't think it through, huh. I'm such a ditz."
"Oh no, don't you worry about me. I'll be fine wandering around at night, cold, alone, with nothing to do but wait," Sour said with wide, glistening eyes, then grinned and shook her head. "I'm just kidding; I'll be okay. I know we aren't really that close of friends or whatever, but I'm honestly happy for you. Have fun."
Lemon gave a delighted nod and held up her thumb. "Thanks! I really owe you one."
"You sure do, and be ready when I decide to collect." Sour winked as she pulled up her socks and slipped on her shoes.
"Uhm... okay." Lemon nervously scratched the back of her head and laughed. Just then, her phone lit up and vibrated, alerting her to a new text message.
Sour sat on the edge of her bed with her legs crossed and tilted her head. "Is that her?"
Lemon nodded and smiled widely. "She's almost here. You can hang out and say hi if you want."
"No, that's alright. I'll be on my way," Sour said as she rapidly tapped away on her phone's screen. "Remember to keep your shenanigans on your half of the room."
Lemon shrugged and leaned forward. "I'll try, but I can't make any promises if things start getting too crazy."
Sour stopped texting and glared over the top of her phone. "I'm serious."
Lemon gulped and nonchalantly flicked her wrist. "Dude, I'm messing with you."
"You'd better be." Sour rolled her eyes as she finished her texts, then tucked her phone into her pocket. "I'll see you later. Tell her I said hi."
"Sure." Lemon leaned back on her hands as she looked up and down the length of Sour Sweet's body, from her adorable shoulder freckles to her provocatively exposed thighs. "Dang, dude... Short shorts, a tank-top, and knee high socks? Nice outfit, you little fox."

"Don't mention it. It happens." Sour accepted her phone and smiled back. "So I was just on my way out so you and Lemon can have the place to yourselves for the night."
"Oh sweet. That's really rad!" Vinyl held out her fist. "What was your name again?"
So cool, Sour thought as she tentatively bumped her fist against Vinyl's and lifted her shoulder to her cheek. "I'm Sour Sweet."
Vinyl raised her eyebrows and lifted her shades as she checked Sour out, not hiding her eyes as they scanned over her body. "Damn. I didn't notice before, but you're a little hottie. Should I be worried about you spending every night with Lemon?"
Sour blushed and coyly waved her hand in front of her face. "Who, me? No no. I'm taken."
"Phew." Vinyl pretended to wipe her forehead and nodded down the hall. "Well, I should probably get going. Lemon's waiting."
"True. She's so looking forward to tonight." Sour giggled and carried on down the hall.
Vinyl stood still for a moment with a growing grin, then turned around. "Wait, what did you mean by that?"
Sour stopped in her tracks and gulped. "Oh, well, nothing really. Just that she's, you know, like, ready to take things furth... eh, I mean. I probably shouldn't say. Oh boy I've really said too much already. Please ignore me!"
Vinyl crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow. "Did she kick you out of the room because she wants to try and make a move or something?"
"No! Not at all! I offered to leave because I thought that, well, maybe you wanted to," Sour explained.
"Why'd you think that? What was she saying about me?" Vinyl asked.
"Nothing! I swear!" A bead of sweat trailed down the side of Sour's head and she cringed, then turned around and steeled herself. "Look, Lemon is a big girl and she's capable of expressing herself to you on your own. It isn't my place to relay our private conversation to you."
"Wow." Vinyl chuckled and shook her head, then gave a casual wave as she walked away. "I'll catch ya later, Sour. Thanks again."
Sour Sweet bit her lip as her thumbs frantically went to work, typing out a message to Lemon. OMG I'm so sorry! I think I said too much and now Vinyl is gonna think things are awkward. I'm so so sorry please forgive me!
She tucked her phone away and slumped against the wall as Vinyl rounded the corner towards her dorm room. "I'm such an idiot. Why can't I ever keep my big mouth shut?"
Lemon Zest picked and plucked at her guitar strings as she attempted to tune the instrument by ear, then flinched when her phone vibrated in the otherwise quiet room, but ignored it as she continued fiddling with her strings. A moment later a knock at the door startled her yet again. "It's open!" she shouted.
Vinyl Scratch stepped into the room with a devilish grin on her face, then latched the door shut and locked it. "Hey there, babe."
"What's up?" Lemon rested her guitar against the wall and stood up to greet her girlfriend.

"Goes for you, too." Lemon winked before she pushed Vinyl onto her back and unzipped her shirt, then pulled it open.
"So if this is what she's like then it seems impossible not to hook up with her," Vinyl teased with a naughty grin.
"She's really not so bad, but trust me, dude, not happening." Lemon shook her head and brushed her messy bangs to the side. "You know, she really liked that remix you sent me. You two could probably be friends if you want."
"Ah man, that's awesome! I wouldn't mind having a friend like her. You know, for backup." Vinyl chuckled and stuck her tongue out.
Lemon scoffed and shoved her onto her back. "Really..."

Each girl then froze as the doorknob jiggled, and Sour pulled the door open.
Sour walked in and shut the door behind herself, then sat down on her bed. She tilted her head as each girl silently stared at her. "Uh... something wrong?"

"Run!" Lemon darted through the door and Vinyl stood with her arms nervously folded in front of her.
"I'm sorry. It was an accident, seriously," she explained. "Like, Lemon had no idea she accidentally pulled me onto your bed, honest."
"She WHAT?!!!" Sour stood off of her bed in absolute disgust, then eyed a damp spot on her sheet.
"See ya!" Vinyl promptly followed Lemon, too afraid to look back as Sour's scream echoed through the quiet hallway.
Standing on the sidewalk outside, Lemon leaned over to catch her breath, and she glanced over her shoulder in time to see the many black windows lighting up one by one. "Oh jeez, I'm so homeless now."
