It was a cold and wintry day in Ponyville and Twilight was enjoying a peaceful trot down to Sugarcube corner to get some cupcakes. While she was heading there, she muttered to herself about what her next friendship lesson should be for Starlight. It was indecision that made her pause suddenly. And also the large hole that had appeared in front of her.
“Where did this hole come from,” she wondered “ I haven’t seen something like this happen in Ponyville before. I should alert the mayor of this before anyone can fall in. we wouldn't want any accidents happening” she chuckled to herself. As she began to gallop to the building where mayor mare worked to notify her of this odd occurrence, she felt strange. It was almost as if she was going nowhere, because when she turned a corner, the hole was still there. And while the scenery had changed, there it was, as daunting and deep and dark as it was when she first saw it.It was almost like it was blocking her from reaching the mayor’s office. “Don’t be silly twilight,” she told herself “it’s not like holes to just spontaneously appear out of nowhere. But I haven’t gotten lost in Ponyville ever since the only time after I moved here.”. It was at this moment she remembered she had wings.“Oh yeah! I have wings, right… I should fly more often.” and as she lifted off the ground, she felt good that she was able to solve this dilemma, Even though she had taken a moment to remember a crucial and important element that would have helped her earlier. But as she flew over the hole, she was hit by a violent and almost sudden wind, knocking her out of the sky, and into the hole. Twilight fell for a very long time, and all the while, she was screaming at the top of her lungs. It was a shrill cry, and anypony would’ve been able to hear it from a mile away, but the hole seemed to go on forever, and it seemed that nopony could hear her.At one point or another, she eventually stopped screaming and began to formulate in her mind how long it would take her to reach the bottom. “If i’m not mistaken,” she said aloud to herself “I should have hit the bottom by now. Mainly because by this point, with air resistance included, I should be going approximately 53 meters per second. That would mean that I probably have been falling for more than 15 seconds, and in effect should have hit the bottom by now,” she said, reasoning that she was indeed not going to die today “Wait, wings!” she exclaimed, expanding her wings to catch the air.But the air was moving too fast, and she hurt one of her wings in the process, so that was out of the question for a second try. The problem now was that… wait, is that? “Is that a pool? Light shouldn’t be able to reach down this far. She began to produce light with her horn, and lo and behold, there it was, the mirror pool. Ten seconds later, she was splashing down in the mirror pool cavern.Upon impact, she thought she was going to be badly hurt, but only sprained a muscle getting out. “The mirror pool,” she whispered in awe “But wait, I thought we sealed the hole up…” she said, realizing what could have occurred. “But how - B - B - But?” she said, confused. “Well, while I’m here, I may as well try and remember what it was that it said in the book so that I can get some help from myself to get out of here.” she rationalized.For a while, she wracked her brain of everything she could for the memory, but she was drawing a blank. She decided on going to where the hole would normally be for the entrance, but it wasn’t there. Meaning she was trapped until- “What was that?” she whispered, as she heard a rustle come from the shrubbery that was in the back of the cavern. Carefully, with the quietness of a ninja, she made her way over to the bush.She then proceeded to carefully pull away the sides of the bush and found… the book with the incantation! She had found it in a bush, but how did it…? There was not time for questioning, she decided, and she went on to summoning clones. “Okay, mhmmm, there we go!” she proclaimed as she found the incantation. “Alright.” she said, smiling “And into her own reflection she stared, yearning for one whose reflection she shared, and solemnly sweared not to be scared at the prospect of being doubly mared.” She said, sighing. “Well ain't that a mouthful,” she said, pulling her clone out of the pool “You’re darn right” The second Twilight said. “Nice to meet you, I’m Twilight Spark-” “I know who you are, you’re me.” Interrupted the second Twilight “and guessing the situation,” she said “I’m guessing we’re in the mirror pool cavern.”“Well, yes, but the thing is that I didn’t come here on purpose, I was sucked into a hole that forced me in here.”“Well, that would explain why we’re in here in the first place, because as you know...”“We sealed off the cavern because it was too dangerous, since anypony could come down here and create an army of themselves.” said Twilight. “Now, to make sure there’s no confusion, we should call me Twilight, and you Sparkle”“I don’t mind that, but it does sound just a little odd to be called ‘sparkle’.”“Well then I’ll be called sparkle and you’ll be called Twilight to prevent any arguments over names so that you don’t turn against me.” said Sparkle“Makes sense.” said Twilight.They both went off on their own separate business, Twilight collecting food, Sparkle collecting small sticks and stones for a fire. They converged an hour later, Twilight with a few grubs, bugs, and a small pile of grass, Sparkle with some rocks that would probably ignite the small amount of wood she had collected. They began to talk about a plan of escape over their small meal. “So, how do you suppose we get out of here.” Said sparkle“Well, we could figure out what magic is keeping us in here, or we could just try and fly out.” said Twilight“But my wing is hurt and that makes flying for me difficult, so that’s not an option. And I also have a sneaking suspicion that any attempt to leave the hole would only end with us being blown out of the air, and into the pool.”“So figuring out the magic that contains us it is then.” Twilight said. They talked for about an hour, arguing about what could keep them in there. Eventually, they slowly began to form an idea as of to what kind of magic had them trapped there. They kept on talking for hours.“Well, it definitely is a kind of magic that traps ponies and keeps them here for a little while.” Said Sparkle.“Maybe there is also some sort of magic that blocks the true entrance from sight so that nopony can leave.”“That must be it, I’ll go and check to see if that’s the case.”“Alright, I’ll come with you, because if anything, it may require more than one pony to accomplish.” and they went off to the entrance. When they got there, they tried multiple revealing spells and other kinds of spells that might show them where the true entrance hid. But they came up with absolutely nothing. It was like the magic that contained them was specifically designed to keep them caged in that horrible cave.It seemed almost chaotic in the way it worked. It seemed almost like… Discord. It was then they both realized what had happened. discord must have played a prank on them or something for they could not escape this cave with any magic that they knew of. So they shouted really loud; “DISCORRRRRD!” but nobody came. Discord didn’t show up.And that was when they realized again what Discord’s game was. Hide and seek in a cave full of things that could contain him. They walked back to the pool, annoyed. And when they got there, they were amazed to find hundreds of Discords, all standing there. “I see you have figured out my little game.” the Discords said, chuckling “But you’ll have to find the real me to escape. And I know I said I was reformed, and I am, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t have a little fun from time to time.”“Discord, we don’t have time for this, I need to warn the mayor of the magical hole and-”“You do realize that I made that hole for you to go in, that’s why you couldn’t escape it.”“BUT WHY IN ALL OF EQUESTRIA DID YOU HAVE TO HAVE ME FALL IN?” Sparkle yelled, her face contorting to rage and another emotion that nobody has ever been able to understand. I’m pretty sure that emotion was… not meant to be understood, but taken with a grain of salt. To understand where she was coming from of course. “Because, you’re the only one who could’ve figured it out. Fluttershy is too soft, no offense to her, to be forced into a hole. Rainbow Dash would probably just sit down in the cave and think of how fast she would have to go to escape the hole and keep trying for hours. Applejack would probably wonder about the hole for a while, try and go to ‘somepony’ [Hint: you] for help and find that she couldn’t. And Rarity, oh don’t get me started, She’d probably complain about how her ‘hooves got wet’ and how her ‘main was all frazzled’ and all that. I just think you’re the best candidate because this is a logic problem that nopony else can solve.” Discord said, sighing in annoyance. “So I chose you”.“Well, when you put it that way, it makes it hard to be any less clear about the subject."“But anyways, please, do try and find me; the real me of course” Said Discord, cackling. That’s when things went to mayhem. All of Discord’s clones moved around the room at such a fast speed that neither Twilight or Sparkle could send any of them back into the pool. So they galloped around the room, tackling any, and every, Discord they could get their hooves on until only one remained that they hadn’t caught; the real one. They both galloped for him and did a double tackle, pinning him to the ground. Then they got off him, so as not to hurt him further.“Well I’ll tell you one thing Twilight, you sure do know how to weed out the needle. I’ll be seeing you later, tata!” and Discord disappeared. “We finally did it.” Said Twilight “We did indeed.”“Well, I guess it’s time for me to go back into the pool now, huh?” Said Twilight unhappily“Yes, I do believe it is.”“It’s been a pleasure.”“Goodbye Twilight.”“Goodbye Sparkle.” said Twilight, and she was zapped back into the mirror pool. Twilight Sparkle (The real one) Arrived back in ponyville just a couple hours before she had to go to the train station to catch a train to Canterlot for a meeting that Celestia was holding for anypony that would go. Twilight decided to go to Sugarcube Corner for some cupcakes and to talk with pinkie about her day’s adventures. Afterward, she went home and read for a while before leaving for the train station. On the train, she wondered if she even needed to make a clone of herself.Yes, she decided, she did indeed need a clone of herself. When she arrived in canterlot, she flew to the castle for the meeting. She arrived just in time to claim the last chair.
