It's been a thousand years since anypony last saw the sun. A thousand years before anyone even dared to hope for a better future. However, that's all about to change for the better.

Twilight Sparkle was just an ordinary unicorn scientist who was trying to adapt plants to grow in the moonlight. However, when a she spots and old stallion getting mugged in the streets on her way home from a local bar, she quickly finds herself a fugitive of The New Lunar Empire and is forced to flee.

As it turns out, the old stallion, named Starswirl the Bearded, had been looking for Twilight, who was apparently destined for much greater things than a mere scientist. According to Starswirl, she was destined to lead Equestria out of the darkness of Nightmare Moon and into the light of day, a feat only accomplishable by somepony who had the perfect balance of light and dark within them. As it turns out, Twilight's been having some unusual dreams lately, involving a white alicorn named Celestia and a dark blue alicorn named Luna, who have been telling her the same things as Starswirl, and so begins to train her mind, body, and magical abilities in order to lead the fight against Nightmare Moon… and perhaps, find love along the way…
