Chapters "This is a tale, not for the feign of heart. It gets gruesome, but I'll share that part later, what you'll need to know is how this started. Now, on to the story, when I was a filly..."
12 years earlier
"Hey, Mystic. How did you do on the assignment?" A gray unicorn asked.
"It was easy, did it in 10 minutes! What about yourself?" Mystic, a purple Unicorn with a purple mane, asked.
"That fast? Oh... I didn't figure out the answer to number 4..."
"That's easy, Techno. The missing symbol is 'a' " Mystic said
"O-oh... T-That was a dumb mistake..." Techno said
"Techno! Don't let it get to you! You're really great at what you do, Friend!" Mystic practically shouting
"Okay, dinner time, you two," Techno's mother told the two
"I see you two got all your work done again, good job, you two," A gray bat pony told the two.
"Thanks, dad," Techno said as they started to eat.
I was a year ahead of Techno, but we've been friends since he's been born. Our mothers are friends of each other.
Oh, and I know readers like to find some hidden gems in the stories, so I'll give you all one. I told you the race of Techno's father because it will be critical soon in the story, but flat out said later. Anyways, on to the next day.
The following day
The day was a normal day, Techno and Mystic got up and went to school. Not much happened on the day. After they got done with their homework, they went to play games.
"So close... I almost have you..!" Mystic says
After a little bit, "Aw...so close..." Techno sounds a little down.
"I'm glad you could come over to my house, Techno," Mystic said delightedly.
"Yeah, but it's getting late, and you know how my mom gets," Techno starts to walk out, "Again tomorrow?"
"I can do that!" Mystic replies back.
At the time, Techno's mother was pregnant. Was expecting another colt at the time. I don't know much of what happened, just the aftermath of it. Seeing as I was only 5 around that time. We'll go to that moment.
Few months later
Techno's came to live with my family for a week leading up to the day. When he got home, he overheard what they plan to do with the new foal. They wanted to send him to their sister's, as they don't think they can handle two colts. The newborn was called Grove.
"Hey, mom, what's happening to my brother?" Techno asked.
"He's going to your aunt's and call him your cousin, okay dear?" His mother asked in a polite tone.
"Okay, mom!" Techno trying to make point of what she said.
Grove was moved with the Flame's and their one son, Tree Flame. Tree Flame was only 2 at the time. Here's something that worked almost too well. Tree Flame is a green Pegasus with red, yellow, and orange mane and tail. Grove looked exactly like him but was a unicorn instead.
Tree's parents were police, as Canterlot is a potentially dangerous place, and they do a great job.
"Thanks for taking care of him, sis," Techno's mother said.
"Tree Flame can now have a sibling, as we can't have any more," Tree's mother said.
"Tree looks so cute," Techno's mother said as the Pegasus smiled.
"Techno looks just as lovely," Tree's mother said.
They just chat with each other for a bit as the three children played. I was at home, doing homework. Then I walked outside and ran across a certain pony. She is a red bat pony, with a purple and blue mane. Techno and I see her all the time in class. It wasn't for a whole year until we confronted her, and that was a critical moment for her.
Before our fated meeting, you should know what she's been through. Her name is Wavelength, a bat pony who is one of my closest friends. She was born in a forest to the northwest of Canterlot, in a small cave with her mother and father. She has great hearing, but her sight isn't too great, day or night. For the first five years of her life, she lived in the forest with her parents.
"Now Wavelength, remember this well. Noise is but a distraction and you must never succumb to emotions, understand, missy?" Wave's father said
"Yes daddy, I understand" Wave repeated back.
Wave's mother came in and whispered to her father. "Honey, what do we do with her?"
"Nothing, for now. If she wants to go, then one less in the household. We can finally get rid of her" Wave's father said
"Okay honey" Wave's mother turned and walked away.
"Now Wavelength, go to bed. It's that time for you. You have one more day, understand?" Her father asked, but sounded more like a demand.
"I understand, Father" Wavelength replied. Then she went to her bed and went to sleep
This was two years ago. The days leading to her eventually leaving for Canterlot. She didn't spend much time with her family whenever she left the house. Thanks to the problem with her eyes. She left her family at 5 to get the Canterlot. She's one year ahead of me. So I didn't know the pain she was going through. For the first two years, she was by herself, the only bat pony in class. Not many of the young fillies and Colts liked or trusted her. Bats weren't the most trusted at the time. I'll continue the story the week before the meeting.
2 years later
In class, Techno and I sat together in the front, we weren't popular, but not many hated us. That's because of Wavelength, a bat pony who was hated by pretty much everypony. Only Techno and I didn't. And after seeing the pain she goes through...
'She still hasn't left, I wish she would just leave'. 'Nopony likes her, get her out'. 'Saying her name is a curse, we don't want that'. Insults she would hear, but ignore. Her mental fortitude was impressive, but it wouldn't last forever. That's when I thought she needed a friend to hang out with. That's when this whole thing started.
"Mom, may I have a friend come over this weekend?" Mystic asked
"Isn't Techno coming over already?" She asked back
"No, a different friend, one from school!" Mystic said with enthusiasm
"You made a new friend? Who is it?" Mystic's mother was wondering
"I can introduce you two once I ask her. Please, mom!" Mystic plead. After some thought, she agreed and let the new pony come over for the weekend.
We got to school on time, just like any other day, but today was different. When we got there, I saw Wavelength in the corner of the hall. Usually, we don't see her until class starts. I looked at her and she looked back, then turned her head away.
"Are you ready, Techno? At lunchtime-" Mystic started to say
"I know, I know... It's just... is she okay with it?" Techno asked hesitantly
"She needs us Techy, you've seen what they've done to her. I will not stop until she accepts." Mystic sounded very enthusiastic about this meeting
"We can at least talk, but if she doesn't want to, we leave her alone, okay?" Techno asked
"Once I hear her story, I'll leave her alone," Mystic reassured Techno
The day went as normal, she sat in the front, ponies were calling her names, wanted her gone, Techno and I worked on our class work when the lunch bell rang.
"I always love lunch, they never have anything bad," Mystic said.
"No, there was one time you had to rush to the bathroom from how sick you got from the food," Techno said back
"Today is the day we talk to her!" Mystic said excitedly.
We went to sit down at our normal seats and started eating when Wavelength trotted to her normal seat and began to eat by herself. That's when we made our move.
"Hello there!" Mystic greeted Wavelength.
"...Hi" Wavelength replied
"How have you been?" Mystic asked back
After a small pause "Okay," Wavelength says back.
"Do you want to hang out?" Mystic asked immediately
"...Can you please leave me be?" Wavelength said in a dull voice.
"What's wrong?" Mystic asked
"I don't want to hang out with you," Wavelength said back, sounding a little mad.
"Mystic, we should l-" Techno started to say before being interrupted.
"Why not? I just want to be friends~" Mystic insists
"Why do you? All I've seen is you want me gone" Wavelength sounding slightly more irritated
"If I wanted you gone, would I be trying this hard to be your friend?" Mystic asked
"I don't have any friends," Wavelength said
"Then we can be your first!" Mystic said very happily
"Just leave me to myself," Wavelength insisted as she got more frustrated with Mystic.
"Mystic, we should go. She won't listen" Techno started getting up, but the Mystic said...
"And disappoint your father? No way!" Mystic said to Techno. "Wavelength, we're classmates, please just let me try. I don't hate you. I think you're a great pony that other ponies don't like. But you seem interesting. I want to get to know you!" After that, Mystic stood up and look Wavelength in the face.
Wavelength sat there and gave it some thought while eating. After she finished, she looked at Mystic and said, "What do we do as friends?"
Mystic's eyes grew and jumped up and down with joy. "Are you free this weekend? You can come over to my house!"
"I guess I could come over..." Wavelength hesitantly replied.
"You just need to ask your parents if they are okay with it," Mystic said.
There was a pause, it would have been an eerie silence if not for being in a noisy lunchroom. Wavelength looked away from them.
Just then, the bell rang and most ponies ran outside for recess.
"Wave, we can talk or play outside," Mystic said as she went outside.
"Wavelength, are you okay?" Techno asked
"Yeah, let's go out to play," Wavelength stood up, threw her trash in the trash bins and trotted out. Techno followed and threw both his and Mystic's trash away and left to go outside.
"...Fillies and colts never clean up after themselves..." The lunch mare said as she started to clean up
We went out to play with Wavelength and it seemed like she enjoyed the time. In class, we sat together, and at lunch, we did the same. It was fun to get to know her a little more before our weekend. ...We never found out why she didn't respond to us when we brought up her parent. She didn't say anything about them until the end of our weekend.
Wavelength came over the weekend and the three of us had a lot of fun. We played a lot of games together. It was a fun weekend, but it had come to an end...
"Okay, it's almost time to go," Mystic's mother said.
"I can take you home, Wavelength," Techno said
"No... I can take myself," Wavelength said back
"I think it would be nice to know where you live so we could go to your house once!" Mystic exclaimed.
"...I don't think you want to know that..." Wavelength spoke hesitantly
"All you'd need to do is ask your parents. I mean, they let you come over this time, so-" Mystic keep on going.
"I don't live with anypony, I live by myself, okay?" Wavelength interrupted Mystic.
Everypony stood there in shock. It was Mystic's mother who broke the silence. "Where do you live then?"
"Just outside the city... I sleep in the trees and bushes," Wavelength replied.
"What about your parents?" Mystic's mother asked.
"They are back at home, they didn't want to come here with me..." Wavelength said
"That just isn't right, you should go back now," Mystic's mother said
"They want me to stay," Wavelength said back
"I'll take her home if that's ok..." Techno said, hoping for it to be okay.
"For now, I guess it will be okay," Mystic's mother said and then went into the other room.
Techno took her to the outskirts of Canterlot and then went home. After they left, I went to talk to my mother about what to do.
"Mom, can Wave stay with us?" Mystic plead
"I don't know if we can, that's one more to take care of," Mystic's mother said
"Please?" Mystic sounded sad about it. "I don't want her the feel alone!"
After a pause, Mystic's mother replied with, "I'll see what I can do about this, okay? But no promises" Mystic's mother said.
"Thanks, Mom!" Mystic said and hugged her.
It took a day or two but it was official, she would move in and live with me. She cried tears when she heard the news. I've never seen her so happy before or since. We hang out a lot, and she's a very smart pony. Techno and I are very happy with what we did that week.
But that's the end of our happy story, for only a few weeks later, something horrible was going to happen. The point where the story changes.
I was in school when the incident happened. There was a commotion in the town center. I can only tell what I have heard. It was a two weeks after our connection with Wavelength. Two stranger came to Canterlot for something. Nopony knows what, not until they were done.
"So, is the answer 4.5?" Mystic asked Wavelength
"Not quite, you arranged the equation wrong," Wavelength said.
"Hm? What did I do wrong?" Mystic asked.
"You forgot a number, the number 8. The answer should be 0.5625" Wavelength said.
"...Whoops, that's a big mistake. Thanks, Wave," Mystic said
"And what about yourself, Techno?" Wavelength asked
"I got 1.125... What did I do wrong?" Techno wondered
"Let me see... that's a square root 4. Not 4" Wavelength replied.
The lunch bell rang. "Okay class, we'll continue this when you get back," the teacher said.
We had no idea what was going to happen. It wasn't going to be a normal day anymore. It was in the town center.
Outside the town center
"Simply foolish. The capital to be this under guarded," A red unicorn with orange mane said.
"Blaze, you do know this place has a lot of guards," a big burly brown Pegasus said.
"Hah! Have you forgotten, Anchor? Though Celestia is queen, she's a terrible ruler. This crime will show that" Blaze said smiling.
"Sorry sir, you're right!" Anchor said.
They were in the town center. They were waiting for someponies. The Tree family.
They were on their way home from the store when they ran into each other.
"Ah finally, you took your sweet time getting here," Blaze said, sounding rather amused.
"Who are you?" Tree Flame's mother stopped and asked
"You don't need to worry about 'who I am?' and more of 'what am I going to do?'. Alexandra," Blaze said in a charming voice.
"What are you talking about?" Tree's father chimed in.
"You too, mister. You won't be missed" Blaze said as an eerie grin came across his face.
"What the-" Alexandra said before getting attack by Anchor
"Get off her!" Tree's father said
"No! Get the kids to safety!" She said, struggling to free herself.
"Haha, you're not escaping!" Blaze said as he grabbed Tree's father in a magical spell.
"Tree! Take your brother and run!" Tree's father said
Tree Flame looked at his father in shock, too scared to do anything.
"I said GO!" Tree Flame's father yelled again
At that moment, Tree Flame grabs his brother's hoof and ran as fast as he could away from the town center. He didn't see much as he fled, but what he did see was his parents getting killed, and nopony to stop them. Soon he was out of sight.
"Should we leave him?" Anchor asks
"The kid can't do anything, leave him. It's less trouble we have to go through" Blaze said with a smile on his face.
"What about these bodies?" Anchor asked
"Leave them, we need to go now. With them gone, we can move on to phase 3" Blaze said as he started to trot away. Then he teleported them both back to their base.
It was halfway through recess when we were told what happened. A crime has occurred so you all get to go home for the day. Our parents came to pick us up and take us home. When we saw Techno's mother in tears, we knew something wasn't right, but we weren't told until we got home.
"Mom, what's wrong?" Techno asked, worried.
"Your aunt died," She told them all
"A-auntie died...?" Techno studdered
"Miss Alex is gone...?" Mystic asked
"Who died?" Wavelength asked
"Alexandra Flame, my sis..." Techno's mother
Techno started to tear up and Mystic tried to comfort him. I tried, it was bad, knowing somepony close to you is in a bad state. He may not have known her too well, but he loved her just as well. Wavelength may have seemed heartless, but she didn't really know her too well. Wavelength tried to act empathetic, though.
Those two, Blaze Runner and Anchor Temper, where the two that would cause all the ponies I know pain and suffering. I've been known to be nice a friendly, but those two, I'd never forget them or forgive them. I didn't know who they were just yet though.
"Phase 2 is complete, sir. Now on to capturing that 'pegasus'" Blaze said, looking rather pleased
We attended their funeral. But one question keeps popping in our head, "why did Celestia or the royal guards do nothing while they were attacking and killing ponies?" Celestia answered with an "I didn't see them until they left.
How was that possible? They weren't hidden. We could never figure it out. Our parents didn't know. All we knew was that two ponies came in and killed two others in cold blood. Right in front of their children. Tree Flame was devastated losing his parents like that.
Tree Flame was beside himself, crying to himself. His parents were very nice and very clever. Who wanted them dead, and why?
"I must figure out what to do with the two. I don't think they can stay" Celestia said
"You can't send them away, who knows what could happen!?" Techno's mother said in a worried tone
"I know this is hard, but they might be in danger staying here" Celestia responded
"Dear, we can't take care of them..." Techno's father said
"Can't you protect them with your guards?" Techno's mother said
"Miss, we would have stopped them if we knew they were here," a royal guard said
"We can take care of both!" Techno's mother said
"Dear, we can barely handle Techno. We can't take either of them," Techno's father said
"We can help with one, even with Wavelength," Mystic's mother said
"I can keep an eye on Grove while in Magic kindergarten. Though Tree is a different story" Celestia said with concern.
I didn't hear much else, Techno ran to Tree and I followed him. He was getting worse every minute.
It turns out that Grove was going to stay while Tree was being sent to Cloudsdale. It was a very tense argument. All I knew was, that was the plan. Now I can see what was wrong with it, but Celestia had a plan, and confidence in this idea.
Two days later, he departed to Cloudsdale whereas Grove stayed in Canterlot. He was supposed to go meet some ponies that would help him. How did it go? Not so well, but Wavelength can tell you that.
It was tough to see our parents that way, but we soon got over it and went on with our lives. We never forgot them though.
Somewhere else, Unknown
"Good job, I trust killing them was that difficult, was it?" A strange voice said
"No, sir. I couldn't have been simpler. They didn't even know we were there... not until it was too late," Blaze replied
"And what did you do with the two children?" The voice asked
"I let them go, they won't be trouble to us... they'll be too scared to touch us after that," Blaze laughs a little
"I knew there was a reason we hired you. Some may call you demented, but I think it's clever and can be charming. Ahahahaha," The voice starts to laugh at his comment, Blaze follows suit.
"Should we make our move to the other pegasus?" Anchor asked
"Ah right. What's her name again?" Blaze asked
"Bexy Flair, and remember everything, you must not fail here. There will be severe consequence if you fail," The mysterious voice said
"Where is she again?" Blaze asked
"Manehatten... Go quickly, our friend is there," The voice said before disappearing
"Ready to leave when you are, sir," Anchor said
How do I know this? Somepony told us, not when we were young, but more recently. She likes to keep her name secret, so I will not tell you right now.
Bexy was in danger, but nopony other than Celestia knew that. Why were they targeting Bexy? Or who is Bexy?
Bexy is Techno's cousin from Manehatten. She was with her parents until 5 years old, where certain practices made them get arrested and she was moved to Cloudsdale.
Whoops, did I spoil a surprise? Sorry.
Now both Tree Flame and Bexy Flair was in Cloudsdale, nopony to watch over them.
"The city of Manehatten, and where our next target is," Blaze said. They were trotting around Manehatten. They didn't want to attract too much attention as their mission was simple. Bexy's father actually worked with them, but little did they know, he was in jail right now.
"We should go get it fast, we don't want something to happen," Anchor said
"Don't worry, my friend. We will secure our prize," Blaze said.
"Here we are, a secluded part of town" Blaze said
"Usually cities like this don't have parts like this" Anchor said.
"Not entirely. Some towns do and some don't" Blaze said, continuing on
"Where is his lab at?" Anchor asked
"It's down the road, three blocks to the left," Blaze said.
They made their way to the lab and knocked on the door. There was a pause and then no response
"Hello?" Blaze said and knocked again. No reply
"Is he home?" Anchor asked.
"Break in time," Blaze unlocks the door and trots in.
"Why is it so dead?" Anchor asked
"He should be here... But where?" Blaze said
They wandered all throughout the house, found traces of nopony. Blaze looked noticeably irritated.
"He can't just leave us like that!" Blaze yells
A pony overheard this and trotted in. "Sorry, but this house is vacant. They plan to tear down this house in a few weeks" the pony said.
"What!? Where is the old homeowner?" Blaze bellowed in frustration
"In jail," the pony said.
"...J-jail...? What!?" Blaze goes off again, almost losing his temper.
"Yes, for some illegal activity," the pony said
In a fit of anger, Blaze grabbed the pony and started to choke them.
Too stunned to realize that he's harming another pony that's not his target, Anchor smacked Blaze in the face. "Blaze, don't kill them, we don't want to leave a trace!" Anchor said
Blaze regained his composure and let the pony go. "Let's go. We need to report back," Blaze said as he tried to trot out, only to be stopped.
"What about me, you jerks?"
"What about you? You're just a waste of time," Blaze said as he tossed the pony across the room.
"Are you sure you want to just leave them like that? They will remember us." Anchor said
"If one of two ponies remember us, we won't get caught, after all, remember Canterlot? The queens did nothing to stop us" Blaze said with the same eerie smile.
After that, the two ponies disappeared. While they were reported to officials, no pony saw them, so the two got away with what they have done.
Somewhere Unknown
"Is that so?" A mysterious voice said
"Yes, sir. Unfortunately, we could not speak with him." Blaze said
"It's not the old fool we need, where is his creation, that is what we need. Do whatever you need to bring that pony back alive, understand?" the mystery voice commanded
"We'll do our best, sir" Blaze replied back
