Night of The Howling Moon
Born as a pegasus in the Everfree Forest, Fullmoon lived with his mom, dad and two sisters. He was very energetic and outgoing, he loved to climb on the trees in the forest with his siblings and read with his parents when he was tired. He got along with his family very well, he loved them, and they loved him back. Even if Fullmoon didn’t have anypony to hang out with or play with, Fullmoon lived a wonderful and fun filled life.
But one day after his ninth birthday, he went into the woods, and he was in there for a lot longer than he usually was, eventually his parents went into the forest to find him. They did find him, but not in the way they were expecting. Fullmoon was laying on the dark green grass in a pool of his own blood, with claw marks and bite marks all over his body. His parents, shocked at their discovery, ran to him, picked him up, and took him to Zecora, a local doctor for mythical wounds and diseases. Zecora said she didn't know what did so much damage to him, but she could mix up a medicine that would heal him slowly, and told them to make sure they let him rest. They took him back to the house, just minutes before sunset to put him in bed. They thought everything would go back to normal, and that he would be fine.
11:59 PM
Just one minute before midnight, Fullmoon was tossing and turning in his bed, breathing heavily and running a really bad fever. When the clock struck twelve midnight, his eyes shot open, revealing that his eyes turned yellow and his pupils sharpened.
Fullmoon’s bones started to crack and shift, making a blood curdling sound as he grew. Four claws sprouted out of each of his hooves, and his teeth grew very sharp into fangs. He grew almost twice the size of his parents. After a long and painful shapeshift, he let out a loud and blood curdling howl.
Fullmoon, not in control anymore, went over to his two sisters beds, and killed them both with one fatal bite to the chest. He bursted out of his room door and started to head towards his parents rooms. He burst through the door, and bit them on the neck, killing them both. He ran through a window and off into the forest, unaware of what he had done.
6:00 AM
Finally, the sun started rising over the bright green hills and dark and thick trees. Once the sunlight hit Fullmoon, he started to change back into his nine year old self. When he changed back, he fell over and passed out on the hills near Sweet Apple Acres, eventually being found by Applebloom, another nine year old that lived there. She dragged Fullmoon into Sweet Apple Acres, wiped the blood off of his mouth and hooves, and put him to bed, hoping he was okay.
10:00 AM
A few hours later, he started to wake up, slowly opening his eyes as he sat up in bed, wondering where the heck he was. He got up and started to wander around the house, to see if anypony was home of course. Fullmoon went downstairs to see if anypony was there.
“You’re Awake!” Applebloom squeaked, jumping right in Fullmoons face, Fullmoon jumped up in fear and ran upstairs. Applebloom chased after him. When she reached the upstairs bedroom, she noticed Fullmoon wasn’t there. She looked around the room, having a feeling he was there.
“G-Go away!” He yelled, signalling Applebloom to the closet, she tried to open it, but he locked himself in the closet.
“Why are ya scared? Im not gonna hurt ya.” Applebloom asked, looking a little confused by his behavior.
“W-Who are you!? Where am I?! Why am I here!?” He kept repeating over and over.
“Calm down, please!” She shouted, making Fullmoon calm down. “Please come out of there.” She pleaded,
“W-Why should I? I-I don’t even know who you are.” Fullmoon told her.
“Well, I-I’m Applebloom, the youngest family member of the Apple family, who are you?” She explained.
Some convincing later, Fullmoon finally opened the closet door, “I-I’m Fullmoon, it’s nice to meet you…” Fullmoon said. “W-What happened to me…? How did I get here…?” He asked, looking around the room again.
“Well, I found ya on the hills over yonder, do you remember anything before that?” She told him.
“N-No I don’t, all I remember is being in bed, then blacking out. Then I woke up here.” He explained.
“I saw that you had blood on your hooves and mouth, do you know why?” She asked. Just then, he had a flashback of what he did last night, as a ferocious beast. Fullmoon fell over on the ground, scared of the vision. “W-What’s wrong?!” She asked, frightened.
“I-I gotta get home!” He yelled, jumping out of an open window into the forest, Applebloom soon followed.
The Everfree Forest
3:00 PM
Finally at his house once again, he noticed a weird hole in one of the windows that was shaped just like him. He was about to open the door when,
“Wait!” Applebloom yelled, running out of the bushes.
“What are you doing here!?” He asked, growling a little bit.
“I-I just wanted to see if-. Huh? W-Why did you growl, you’re not mad at me are you…?” She asked, her smile quickly turned into a frown, her lip was quivering.
He sighed, “No I’m not mad, I just wish you didn’t come here.” He said. Fullmoon turned his attention back to the door, just now noticing it had claw marks all over it. Hesitating a little, he went inside, seeing a bunch of blood and more claw marks all over the walls and the floor. “Applebloom, you can come with me, just don’t touch anything.” He told Applebloom. She nodded, then went in with him. They looked around the house for a little while until Applebloom went into his room. Shocked by the discovery, she called Fullmoon over to his room, wanting to show him what she found. Fullmoon trotted over to where she was standing, his eyes shot open, as he saw both of his sisters dead in their beds, lying in a pool of blood. Not being able to handle seeing that, Fullmoon broke down crying on the ground. “W-What did this….?” He muttered, still crying.
Suddenly, they heard a door opening in the house, Applebloom grabbed Fullmoon and hid behind a wardrobe. “What was that?” Applebloom asked, looking scared.
“I-I don’t know who that was, but I hope it’s somepony friendly.” He said, shaking a little.
Applebloom peeked over the wardrobe to see a bright yellow pony with bright blue eyes and a cutie mark of 3 beautiful pink butterflies.
“Angel, are you sure this a good spot to stop? S-somepony could be here.” The stranger said, she spoke with a quiet and shy tone, yet she was loud enough for Applebloom to hear.
Fullmoon accidentally hit his hoof on the wardrobe, and he couldn’t hold in his yelp of pain. “OW!” He yelled, scaring both Applebloom and the mysterious pony. The stranger, now certain somepony was there, jumped in fear and hid in a shrub. Applebloom took a risk and asked who was there.
“H-Hello…? W-Who’s there…?” Applebloom asked, she heard the shrub shake and the stranger poked her head out of it.
“A-Applebloom…?” She said. “Fluttershy? What are you doing here?” She asked, confused.
“I-I was just heading my way back to my cottage when Angel got tired, so we went here.” She explained.
“Of all places, why here?” Applebloom had a confused look on her face. Fullmoon peeked over the wardrobe he was hiding behind.
“W-Who’s that…?” Fluttershy asked, backing away a tiny bit.
“Oh, this is Fullmoon, a friend of mine, come introduce yourself Fullmoon.” She said. Fullmoon came out from behind the wardrobe and walked over to Fluttershy, shaking a little.
“Fullmoon, this is Fluttershy, an animal lover.” She explained.
“Nice to meet you little one.” Fluttershy smiled and patted Fullmoons head. Fullmoon started to wag his tail like a dog or in this case, a puppy.
“What are you doing Fullmoon?” Applebloom asked, tilting her head confused.
“I’m just happy.” Fullmoon said, soon he started to hug Fluttershy and wag his tail faster.
“He’s acting just like a puppy, I haven’t seen anypony act like this before.” Fluttershy said.
“You might wanna head back to your cottage, it’s getting kinda late.” Applebloom pointed toward the window to see the sun setting.
“Wanna come with me to my cottage? You don’t wanna stay here all night do you?” Fluttershy asked.
“Sure, we’ll go, and I’m sure Fullmoon would love to.” Fullmoon nodded, wagging his tail very fast now. Fluttershy let go of him and exited the house with the young colt and filly.
“This way.” Fluttershy said.
Fluttershy’s Cottage
7:00 PM
After a few hours of walking, they made it to Fluttershy’s Cottage. “Here it is, do you like it?” Fluttershy asked. All this time Fullmoon was still wagging his tail like a puppy.
“I-I love it…” Fullmoon said, starting to twitch his ears. They went inside, seeing a ton of animals like cats, bunnies, birds, a bear, and a racoon. “How many pets do you need?” Fullmoon asked.
“I take care of animals as a living, I keep any animal I can find.” She explained to him. He then noticed that the animals were backing away from him every time he moved closer to them.
“W-What’s wrong? W-Why are you afraid of me?” He asked.
“I don’t know what’s going on with them, maybe they’re scared because they don’t know who you are.” Applebloom said.
“I-It’s getting late, we should probably go to bed.” Fluttershy told the filly and colt.
“I’ll sleep on the couch, I’m kinda used to doing that.” Fullmoon said, laying down on the couch.
“Applebloom can have the guest room then.” Fluttershy said. Applebloom went into the guest room and went to bed, almost falling asleep instantly.
“Good night everypony.” She said.
“Good night guys.” Fullmoon said, falling asleep instantaneously.
6:00 AM
The sun started to rise over the hills and thick trees, shining through the windows of the cottage. Fullmoon woke up and hopped out of bed, hearing barking from the dogs outside. When he went outside and walked to the dogs, he had a sudden urge to talk to them, so he did.
“Bark Bark!” He yelled, somehow understanding the dogs, he didn’t care though, since he was happy that finally there was an animal that didn’t run away from him. Fluttershy eventually walked out of the cottage to see Fullmoon barking at the dogs.
“Um… F-Fullmoon…? What are you doing?” Fluttershy asked.
“Talking with the dogs, their lives are actually pretty cool, Bark! Bark!” He continued to bark at the dogs, ‘talking’ to them apparently. Applebloom woke up aswell and walked outside, also seeing Fullmoon barking at the dogs.
“He’s talking to them, if he wants to, let him.” Fluttershy told Applebloom. She shrugged her head and continued to watch Fullmoon ‘talk’ to them. He got tired of it and he told his canine friends goodbye.
“That was fun, I haven’t had that much fun in a while.” He said, he started to wag his tail again.
“Come on, let's get to Ponyville, I want to see if you can get enrolled in school.” Fluttershy said with a light but happy smile. They started to trot along the path to Ponyville.
Ponyville
7:30 AM
“Are we there yet?” Fullmoon asked.
“Why, yes Fullmoon we are.” She said as she saw the tower of Ponyville over the hills. They trotted over to the school and talked with Mrs. Cheerilee about getting Fullmoon enrolled.
“I would gladly accept him into our school, welcome aboard Fullmoon.” She shaked Fullmoons hoof in happiness.
“Oh, and if he starts wagging his tail, don’t mind it, it’s just a thing he does when he is happy.” Applebloom said. Mrs. Cheerilee nodded, and went back to her work.
“I’ve never been to school before, what’s it like Applebloom?” Fullmoon asked.
“Well, it’s actually really fun, you get to do activities, do fun work with groups, the only bad part about it is, the bullies.” She explained.
“Bullies?”
“Yeah, bullies, they are good for nothing ponies who mess with others for no apparent reason, especially Diamond Tiara.” She explained.
“Who’s that?” He asked.
“That would be me!” A pink pony with a crown on her head and as a cutie mark walked up to them.
“I’m Diamond Tiara, and who are you?” Diamond asked.
“I’m Fullmoon, nice to meet you.” He stuck out his hoof to shake hers.
“Sorry, I don’t do hoof shakes. Even if I did, I would only do it with my friends!” She exclaimed.
“Like you have any…” Applebloom muttered.
“WHAT DID YOU SAY!” Diamond Tiara roared, looking mad.
“Sweet celestia calm down…” Fullmoon said.
“YOU CALM DOWN!” Diamond Tiara pushed him to the ground, and when he got up, he did not look too happy. He started to trot slowly closer to Diamond Tiara, ignoring a migraine that was starting to take place in his head. His eyes turned yellow and his pupils sharpened, he was a few inches away from being right in front of her face.
He said, “If you do that again, you’ll never walk again.” The way he was acting was strangely uncharacteristic of him, since he was usually nice and forgiving.
Diamond scoffed, thinking he was bluffing, and went into the schoolhouse.
Fullmoons eyes went back to their normal, purple color. He fell over on the ground, looking around the area. “Where am I?” He asked. Applebloom rushed towards him, having a worried look on her face.
“What happened then? You were, strangely aggressive, and as far as I know, you aren't the aggressive type.” She said. Fullmoon was confused as well, he didn't even know what happened.
“I was pushed by her, then I blacked out, at least, I think I did.” He said, confused.
“Let's just get to school.” AppleBloom told him. They walked over to the school, asking Mrs. Cheerilee for Fullmoons seat.
“You can sit next to Applebloom if you want. I don’t really mind, as long as you don’t talk in my class.” Mrs. Cheerilee told him. Fullmoon smiled since he could sit next to his friend, his first ever friend. Class soon started, and everypony went to their seats. Fullmoon sat next to Applebloom, having a smile on his face as he did, never in his life did he smile that big. Once class started, Mrs. Cheerilee introduced Fullmoon to the whole class, when she did though, everypony was happy, but Fullmoon overheard Diamond Tiaras murmuring in the back row.
She whispered, “They should be cheering for me, not you.” Fullmoon turned to her and yelled,
“I heard that you know!” Diamond Tiara pretended to cry, trying to get Fullmoon in trouble. “I’ve seen fake crying before, and yours is the worst.” He told her, she had a face in disbelief, seeing everypony was fooled by the way she acted, except for him. Diamond Tiara shut her mouth then, she knew she was beaten by him. Fullmoon turned back in his seat, listening to Mrs. Cheerilee teach the class about the equality of the three races, the Unicorns, the Pegasi, and the Earth Ponies. Fullmoon started to wag his tail again, looking at Applebloom.
Diamond tiara whispered, “Freak.” Once Fullmoon heard that, he started to growl once again, turning his attention to Diamond Tiara. His eyes turned yellow and his pupils sharpened again,
“You think I was bluffing when I said you wouldn’t walk again?” He asked her, snarling in anger.
She scoffed, “Yeah, like a little colt like you could do-” She was cut off by a crunch from the chair Fullmoon was sitting in, he broke the back of it with one hoof, Diamond couldn’t do anything else but open her jaw wide.
“Last warning, leave me alone, or you will never walk again, got it?!” He yelled. Diamond tiara nodded and Fullmoon turned back in his chair, falling on his desk as his eyes turned back to purple. “Huh? W-What happened?” He asked, he looked around the classroom confused.
“Ya black out again?” Applebloom looked at him in the eyes, seeing if they were yellow again.
“I-I guess, I don’t know what’s going on with me, should I see a doctor?” He asked.
“We could if you want to.” She said, with a kinda sad look on her face that her friend isn’t doing well.
3:00 PM
After school, they walked out of the schoolhouse to see two ponies waiting for them.
“Applebloom!” They both yelled, running up to hug her.
“Is this your new friend you were talking about? He looks nice.” The pegasus asked, The pegasus was orange colored and had purple hair and tiny wings.
“Is he nice?” The Unicorn asked, she was pure white colored with her horn being colored white aswell and had a pink and light purple mane.
“He is nice. Girls, this is Fullmoon, I saw him on a hill passed out so I decided to take him to Sweet Apple Acres and help him.” She explained to them.
“It’s nice to meet you two, what are your names?” He asked, putting a hoof out in front of them.
“I’m Scootaloo.” The orange Pegasus told him.
“And I’m Sweetie Belle.” The white Unicorn told him, they both shaked his hoof.
“Girls, he hasn’t been doing well lately, he’s been having sudden outbursts of rage, and he doesn’t remember any of it, he says he blacks out when something like that happens.” She explained to them.
“Is he sick? Or did he get hurt?” Sweetie Belle asked, looking worried for him.
“Well, a couple of hours ago I saw this on his wing.” She showed them what looked like a bite from a feral animal, a wolf maybe.
“What happened to you?” Scootaloo questioned, looking worried.
“I-I don’t remember, I was walking through the forest, then I blacked out, woke up in my bed, then blacked out again, after a lot of pain…” He explained to them. The bite on his wing started to glow a faint and pale green, seeing the glow, the three mares jumped and fell over. “What’s wrong?” Fullmoon asked, Scootaloo pointed towards his wing and he looked at it. His eyes opened wide as he saw that the bite on his wing was glowing. “AHH!” Fullmoon jumped, falling on the ground. Applebloom helped him up, “Whats going on!?” Fullmoon started to shake, not knowing what the glowing means.
“We need to get you to Fluttershy, she knows a lot about animals, maybe she knows what’s going on.” Sweetie Belle said. Fullmoon with no hesitation started to run in that direction, he was strangely running a lot faster than he usually did, the 3 fillies ignored it and followed him.
7:00 PM
At Fluttershy's cottage, the three fillies and the colt knocked on the door, eventually Fluttershy opened the door to see the four kids with pleading eyes.
“What’s wrong?” Fluttershy asked, Applebloom showed Fullmoons bite on his wing,
“Do ya know anything about this?” Applebloom asked. Fluttershy looked closely at the bite, noticing that it had a faint green and pale glow coming from it.
“I think I know what this is, but I don’t know why i-it’s glowing.” Fluttershy said, urging them to come in. Fullmoon sat on the couch to let Fluttershy look at the bite more.
“I-It looks like a bite from a wolf or a dog. Did you get bit by the dogs outside when you were talking to them?” Fluttershy asked.
“N-No I didn’t, we just noticed the bite about four hours ago, and I don’t remember getting it.” He said, shaking a little. Fullmoon put a hoof on his head,
“Something wrong Fullmoon?” Scootaloo asked.
“I-I’m fine, it’s just my head hurts…” Fullmoon fell over on the couch, breathing a little faster than usual. Fluttershy put a hoof on his head,
“He’s running a fever, let me get a ice pack for him.” Fluttershy said as she walked out of the room.
“Are you gonna be okay Fullmoon?” The three fillies asked him simultaneously, they looked at each other then back to him.
“I-I’ll be fine, go ahead and go home, don’t worry about me.” He said, Fluttershy came back with an ice pack and she put it on his head.
“Get some rest, you’ll need it for tomorrow.” Fullmoon quickly fell asleep on the couch, and the three fillies went home.
