Spike's depression
Ridance
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe door slowly creaks open with a small light shining from the inside.
"I don't think she's still happy. That doesn't mean you can't sleep on the couch tonight. Just lay there and don't make a sound." Still whispering as quietly as possible, he almost knocks down a vase before Spike jumps out of his disguise catching it before seeing the look on his face.
"Spi.." He grabs his mouth shut and shushes quietly.
"I know this sounds crazy, but we can't make any deal about me." The stallion nods in agreement and Spike slowly lets go.
"What I said back there is true. I do not want you telling anypony about this. I am still not happy with the situation between me and Rarity."
"Ok" Spike climbs onto the couch whispering goodnight and falls asleep. The next morning a mare whips up some breakfast and brews a cup of coffee before she starts reading her local newspaper. Spike sleeps while the Stallion is dealing with a headache as he tries to regain his balance from the night he had too much.
"Again?"
"Come on lady, I just need a little break from your mouth."
"Ugh! I hate it when you do this crazy thing!"
"All I'm saying is that you should tone down your anger more and ditch the bossy act."
"I don't have time to put up with your dumb behavior and try to patch up your mistakes."
"Since when?"
"What about the time you got sick and threw up all over the host?"
"That food was undercooked and my stomach couldn't handle the feeling."
"What about when you broke someponies collection?"
"I tripped on accident." The two continue on as Spike moans waking up from his slumber. While regaining full consciousness, he see's a mare with long blonde hair, light yellow skin, brown eyes, and a paintbrush making a small curved stroke on her flank. The couple doesn't notice Spike as he walks to the fridge to grab something to eat for breakfast and snatches the newspaper from the table. Minutes pass until the mare notices her newspaper is not on the table.
"Wait a second! Where's the paper?"
"What paper?"
"The paper that was on this table!"
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Don't play dumb with me. You know where it's at."
"No I don't!" She gets irritated and uses her horn to lift up some items to look for the newspaper before lifting the couch. Spike falls right off when he is tipped over by a moving couch before letting out a small scream. Hearing a sudden voice, she stomps to the couch to find someone who does not belong in the home.
"Why is there a dragon in the house?"
"I can explain."
"I want him out! Now!"
"But he's homeless."
"I don't care! Get rid of this unwelcome guest and don't let him back in."
"He's Spike the Dragon." She comes to her senses recognizing the purple scales, green pupils, green spikes, spade shaped tail, and bipedal form.
"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry for what I said." Spike lowers his eyebrows staring at the mare who said all those mean things.
"I'm leaving."
"Wait don't go. I'll give you anything."
"How about a few gemstones?"
"Anything for an amazing dragon like you." She hands over a bunch of gems to Spike and he walks out the door with his sack of things saying "Goodbye everypony".
Meanwhile in The Everfree forest, Fluttershy cares for her animals while thinking about when Spike will ever return. Discord, resting on the couch, snores as the animals in her cottage roam around, while Angel grows impatient waiting on his meal to be served. The rabbit could not wait any longer, so he jumps onto Discord and hops around on his gut until the draconiquis finally wakes up stretching.
"What is it Angel?" He tries talking, but all that would come out of his mouth were squeaks and high pitched noises. Growing tired of this utter nonsense (in his perspective) he goes back to sleep and ignores the hungry rabbit. Fluttershy comes in seeing a hungry rabbit, begging for food.
"Poor thing. You must be hungry." She grabs some carrots and gives a generous portion to eat." After devouring the whole bowl he tells Fluttershy that Discord could not understand a word he said.
"Sorry to hear that. Discord can't talk to animals like I can." Angel rambles on until Fluttershy decides to wake up Discord.
"Discord darling." Fluttershy called softly. He wakes up slowly seeing his friend looking a little down.
"What now? Are the rabbits multiplying too fast? Or is it the mice?"
"It's just that, Spike has not been around since he left."
"Really? This is quite a predicament since I have not played Ogres and Oubliettes since the last week."
"Now are you getting the picture?"
"This looks like a detectives job for solving a mystery that is rather odd." Discord snaps his fingers, thus putting on a trench coat and a detectives cap in an instant. Outside the door, he holds his magnifying glass looking around the cot.
"Discord?"
"Strange, I'm not picking up on any kind of evidence."
"Perhaps maybe you need to try a different approach."
"Splendid idea." He knocks on the castle doors waiting patiently until it creaks open.
"Oh Discord! I did not expect you to be here. Anything I can help you with?" Asked Twilight.
"A cup of tea will do."
"Alright I'll brew some. Please find a comfortable spot." Twilight walks into her dining room where Discord was waiting patiently.
"So... What brings you here?"
"When was the last time you saw him?"
"Who?"
"Spike."
"I'm sorry to say he's been gone for a while. I don't know when he'll ever return."
"Let me rephrase this. By what time was he last here?"
"It started when he wanted to take Rarity out to the spring dance."
"Interesting. Was she by any chance with another stallion?"
"Yes. I know it seems crazy since she was not pleased with how he treated her on their first date."
"Alright. Care to explain how she managed to get back with him?"
"They met at a coffee shop where she ran into him coincidentally and she happened to reconnect with him since they were away for a long time."
"How does this affect Spike?"
"He brought roses and wore a nice tux that I thought was great, but when he saw what was going on with her now, he shut down and left me all alone without telling me where he was going."
"I believe I have enough words from a witness to help me crack the case."
"But you do not have any way of knowing where he went."
"If I know him enough, he has a craving for gems, correct?"
"I guess he may have left some lying around on his journey."
"Or maybe he had something else left behind."
"You could ask Rarity about one of the things that happened."
Discord knocks on Rarity's door to find that the place is still a mess.
"Erm is this the wrong time for visits?"
"No no no, not at all. Please come in." Discord looks at how bad it still is to this day and sits on a chair.
"So darling what brings you here? I'm sure I could probably sew together something decent."
"About Spike."
"That's a rather touchy subject for me."
"How did he react to your 'acquaintance' in particular?"
"Oh my gosh it was awful. I can't believe he would do such thing."
"Did he happen to leave anything behind?"
"He did leave me these burnt flowers."
"And where are they?"
"I threw them in the trash but I have not completely rid of them." Discord rummaged inside to find what was said about was true.
"This isn't enough to help me find him."
"Well somepony has told me that he went to the woods." Discord disappears in a second and lands in the forest where he see's a stallion lying there sleeping. He taps him on the head before being surprised by a sudden awakening.
"What.. Who.. Huh..."
"Did you happen to encounter a dragon by any chance?"
"Yeah. I saw him go that way."
"Thank you for your cooperation." Upon leaving the forest he finds a large city full of many mares and stallions trotting around until he spots the odd one out. Discord grabs Spike by his tail into an alleyway where nopony would expect.
"Discord?!"
"There you are."
"What are you doing here? Get lost!"
"I'm am not leaving you behind. You have been gone long enough, now it's time to head home."
"You're not the boss of me!"
"Well I'm not leaving without you."
"Fine if you can't go without me we'll stay right here."
"Fair enough. Lets see who can last long enough without comfort."
"I accept your challenge." Spike sits down with his arms crossed, while Discord pulls out a book and a pair of glasses designed for reading. Many hours pass until he closes his book to see Spike still sitting there in the same position as he was before.
"Seems you have the courage to remain there without moving."
"Felt like this for days."
"Feeling better."
"Nope, not one bit."
"I've heard the others are rather worried, don't you think?"
"They can laugh all they want. All I am is just a useless dragon."
"Now hold on a minute, you're not just a dragon."
"Prove it!"
"Alright, all aboard The Discord Express, next stop, Alternate Reality."
