Chapter 1: Friends Forever

This story is an alternate universe fic. That said the main character is going to influence events. he'll show up before the start of the series and from there be a possible permanent fixture. That said if you don't like human in Equestria stories this isn't for you. I don't know where everything is going but this story is my break from wolfish writer. If you're reading this because you like my work thank you. If it just sounded interesting well glad you checked it out. That said on to the story.
Chapter 1: Friends Forever
Have you ever had that one friend you could never forget? It doesn’t matter how you met them, it doesn’t matter what you did together, you just know that as long as you’ll live that one friend is the one you will never forget. For me that friend was a purple unicorn named Twilight Sparkle. You’re probably going “Oh really a unicorn, what were you five when you met her or something?” You know what’s ironic is that yes I was five. It was a week before my birthday and I was alone as per usual. I didn’t have many friends when I was a child, and maybe that is why I remember Twilight so well. You know what I’m just going to tell you about how I met twilight and you can laugh at me or whatever you want to do in your own way after I’m done.
Like I said it was the week before my sixth birthday. I was wandering around the woods by my uncle’s house. He lived on a small farm in Pennsylvania that was surrounded by said woods. I was on summer break at the time, so everything was cool with my parents. They were actually happy to have me outside rather than moping around the house after my chores were through. We were only staying for a few more days, so I was enjoying the woods while I could. After a while of wandering, I found a fairy ring and sat down in it to rest. Now you probably don’t know what a fairy ring is. They’re rings of mushrooms in a perfect circle that supposedly were made by fairies so they could travel between worlds.
I always thought it was true because I was a big believer in magic. Still am to be honest. I smiled as I sat there and said softly “I wish, I wish someone would take me away for a while. Even if it’s only a few hours, I just can’t handle being here anymore. I miss gram and pop, I dislike this stupid farm even if I like the woods, and I guess I’d like to know what it’s like to have a friend. Fairies if you hear my plea please take me to another place where I can make a friend.”
I closed my eyes and sighed then opened them as I heard soft chanting all around me. I stared mouth agape as fairies flitted around me. They sang and danced in circles and slowly everything outside the fairy ring started to fade away. I gasped and said “I guess you heard my plea. Please be able to return me to home eventually because I know people will miss me, even if I doubt they’ll notice right away.” The fairies giggled and nodded then started dancing faster and faster as the world completely faded.
After anywhere from a minute to an hour they slowly stopped dancing and I found myself in the middle of a well maintained park. I smiled slightly and stood up then walked to a nearby oak and sat down at its base humming a happy tune. As I sat there I saw a bunch of colorful equines walking past ignoring me as if they didn’t know I was there. I noticed that they were too small to be horses and said “Huh, a world of colorful ponies.”
When I saw some of them had wings and horns I said “Pegasi and Unicorns. AWESOME!” This caused a start in a passing unicorn mare who looked at me and gasped. I waved politely and said “Hello miss.” She waved back looking surprised then walked on like nothing happened. I smiled and closed my eyes humming under my breath. After a while I opened my eyes and saw a filly and colt playing nearby.
The colt was almost the size of a full grown pony and had a blue mane and tail. His eyes were also blue, but he had a shield tattoo with a six pointed magenta star inside it. I stared and thought it was so cool figuring he was some kind of knight or something. The filly was purple with a navy mane with a pink stripe and a magenta stripe, the coloring was also that of her tail. The colt said something about them having to go and the filly said “But Shiny you promised we could play, then you said I could read.”
Shiny, as the colt was called by the filly said “I know Twily, but I gotta get home and study. If you want you can get a book and I’ll study here while you read.” She nodded and they trotted off talking and laughing.
I smiled slightly and wished I had someone who was as close to me as the colt and filly seemed to be toward each other. I closed my eyes and laid my head back against the bark of the tree then stretched and yawned. I was kind of exhausted, which is why I’d been resting in the fairy ring in the first place. After a while I heard foot, I mean hoof steps approaching where I was sitting. I opened one eye and saw the Shiny and Twily walking toward my tree with a saddle bag over Shiny’s shoulders.
Twily came and sat next to me, her nose in a book, and Shiny sat on the opposite side after telling her to stay close which she acknowledged with a “mhm.” I smiled as the oblivious filly sat next to me and asked “Whatcha reading?”
Without looking up she said “Basic magic theory for unicorn foals.” I blinked realizing that like me she had a larger than average vocabulary. I’d been reading since I was three so that was my excuse, what was hers I wondered to myself.
I yawned and asked “Is it interesting?” She made an mhm in agreement like she did with her brother then I asked “What have you learned so far?”
She smiled and it lit up her face. She didn’t look away from the book, but replied “How to levitate things, how to make my horn glow, about the wells of unicorns, and so much more. I just love reading. This is our family’s personal copy so I don’t have to worry about returning it to the library so I read it whenever I get the chance.” I smiled slightly and she continued “I’m studying to get into Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns. I take the exam in a few days if mommy and daddy will let me. You can apply to the school throughout age fifteen, but I want to get in as soon as possible.”
I smiled and said “I bet you’ll get in without any problems. You seem to understand magic like I understand animal training.” She looked up when I said that and stared at me surprised then I smiled and offered my hand saying “Name’s Jacob Davidson, but you can call me Jake. What’s your name, miss?”
She giggled shyly and said “I’m Twilight Sparkle, but my big brother calls me Twily.” I chuckled at that and told her it was a lovely nickname. She smiled again and asked “What are you?” She blushed when she realized what she asked by I laughed it off.
I smiled and said “I’m a human, and you and your family are all unicorns I’m guessing?” She nodded then thought about it and shook her head slowly. I raised an eyebrow and said “Yes they are or no they aren’t?”
She said “My birth mother, my brother, my dad, and I are all unicorns. However my other moms are an earth pony and a pegasus. Dad loves us all equally. I have a half-sister who’s a pegasus named Silver Sparkle. I also have a half-brother who’s an earth pony named Oak Armor. My dad’s name is Night Light, my full brother is Shining Armor, my moms are Twilight Velvet, Aurora Breeze, and Thistle step.”
I grinned and said “So cool. I only have one mom and dad. There David George and Brenda May. I have no siblings sadly but I do have a few cousins.” She smiled glad to see what we had in common and I continued “Do you have trouble with anything you’re studying?” She blushed and nodded. I asked “Can I help you understand it?”
She shrugged and said “Maybe. I don’t know if someone who doesn’t have magic could really help me understand my magic.”
I smiled and said “We won’t know till I try. So what part are you having trouble with?”
She smiled and said “I mastered levitation and making my horn glow, but I can’t figure out how to tap into the well from which my power is drawn. I know it should be easy, at least that’s what shiny says but I just can’t wrap my mind around how I’m supposed to tap into the well. So do you have any ideas?”
I smiled and said “Have you ever thought of imagining things?” she stared at me confused and I explained “Imagine that your well is a literal well. You need to use something to draw the magic up from within, like a pump and then out of your horn which is the hose. Imagine your ability to feel the magic is the pump, and then just dip it into the well and from there let it come up and out.”
She gasped and said “I didn’t think about it like that.” I smiled happy to help and she suddenly hugged me. I smiled even bigger and she said “Thanks Jake. I’m a bit of a literal person with how I think. You seem to be more imaginative.” I nodded and she asked “Why is that?”
I smiled and said “My uncle. He always told me tales about myths and monsters and what not and I just fell in love with the tales. I always thought there was more to the world than what we could see and feel. Like magic for instance, back home no one has it so they all think it’s fake. However I saw you using it and it brought me here so I know it’s real.”
She smiled and said “Oh. What is your home like?” I shrugged and started talking about back home. How dad and mom were contractors, Uncle Alex was a mythology teacher who owned a little ranch in the middle of the Pennsylvania wilderness, and how nothing ever seemed to go right for me. Twilight gasped when I told her about the fairy ring and said “You’re fairies sound like breezies. We don’t have a similar tradition, but they do appear occasionally and everyone thinks they have their own magic just like other pony types.”
I smiled and said “Well whether it was breezies or fairies they brought me here and allowed me to meet you so I owe them a big thank you.” She smiled and I said “I’m five going on six, so I have a lot of life ahead of me, and want you to be a part of it. If you want to that is.”
She smiled and said “I think I’d like to be part of your life. At least I want to be your friend. I only really have Shiny and my other siblings.”
I chuckled and said “Maybe I could broaden your imagination and you can increase my literal thinking. Though this may be the only time we get to meet, so how about we make a pact. We’ll be friends forever no matter what.”
Twilight smiled and said “That way we’ll be friends even when you go home?” I nodded and she said “Alright how do you want to do that?” I pulled out my pocket knife and she gasped. I shushed her quickly as Shining was looking up from his book wondering why Twilight was making a noise of surprise. She slowly calmed down and asked “What are you going to do with that?”
I smiled sadly and said “I’m going to make a cut and if you want we can mix blood. If not that’s fine, but I’m going to give myself a way to remember you. I don’t have anything else to give except my blood.” Twilight blinked surprised and I ripped my shirt into three strips revealing my slightly developed abs. Farm work will develop a body on you even as a child.
Twilight studied me and said “Why’d you rip up your shirt?”
I smiled slightly and said “One piece to bind my cut, one piece to bind yours if we share blood, and one piece for you to take with you when you go home.” I cut my palm open and winced as the blood slowly flowed down it. I growled to myself closing my eyes and willing myself to work through the pain.
Twilight asked me “Does our friendship really mean so much to you?” I nodded and she sighed then held out her hoof. I cut a small incision in the outer upper leg and pressed my bloody palm against it mixing our blood and connecting us then wrapped both of our cuts and cut Jake and Twi friends forever into my shirt then tied it around her neck. She giggled at that and said “Thanks Jake. I hope we see each other again someday.” I nodded
Shining got up and said “Come on Twily, time to go home.” I watched them go then turned and headed back to the fairy ring turning around to give Twi a thumbs up when she looked back. She waved then I slipped into the more wooded part of the park and sat down in the breezy/fairy ring. The breezies started to dance around me preparing to send me home.
As they started to fade I said “If you or the fairies ever need me just send me a message and I’ll find a way to help. I promise, and that’s the promise of a lifetime.” After a few minutes I found myself back in the fairy ring by the farm and got up then jogged to the house. Little did I know, that the cut on my palm had healed already.
When my uncle saw me he said “Jacob where have you been my boy?” I smiled and told him about my time in the fairy ring and he said “I wouldn’t tell your parents that boyo. Dad and mom might believe you, but your dad and mom are too much in the real world to agree with you seeing a unicorn and pegasus. I believe you though, don’t worry. I have always believed in the fairies. Maybe one day I’ll also get to see them. Though it was unwise to promise them aid I know it’s just who you are.” I nodded and he said “So for a pony, was Twilight cute?”
I blushed at the implication and yelled “UNCLE SHE’S JUST MY FRIEND!” He laughed softly and I sighed then said “I’m going into my room.” He nodded and told me when dinner would be ready then I walked to my room and took the shirt off my hand seeing the cut was healed but in its place was a star. I blinked surprised and muttered “I guess that represents Twilight.” After that I collapsed on my bed and fell asleep.
That was fifteen years and one week ago. Today I turned Twenty one. I never forgot Twilight, and it honestly feels like an ache in my chest when I think about her, almost as if she’s forgotten me. I hope that’s not the case, but I won’t know unless I find a way back to her world. I’m thinking about using another fairy ring. I know there are more of them in Uncle’s woods, amazing how he won the lottery and bought all the property around the farm. He said something about turning it into a nature preserve. He also said he’s seen the fairies and they seem to be looking for me. I doubted him at first till he pointed out he never doubted my tale.
I gave in and he said “So how about before you start up college you come stay with me a while.” I agreed and now I’m on a plane from Arizona, where my parents place is, to Uncle Alex’s place in Pennsylvania. Anyway if you like my tail great, if not doesn’t matter it’s true. I just hope Twilight remembers me and that the fairies are ready for whatever they need me for. Uncle Alex seems to think they want to make a compact with humans again and they want me to be the human they make the contract with. I hope that’s not the case because then they won’t let me leave this world for good, or if they do they’ll want me to keep in touch. Anyway that’s my tale so far; I’ll tell you more as it comes to pass.
