The Feeling Was Always There, Just Hiding
The sky glittered with stars. The moon shedding a dim but miraculous light around the grass. On the grass lay a thin purple blanket, next to a small cart with the cutie mark of a certain magician on it. The magician in question lay upon the in blanket. The cold nipping at her as she let her mind wander. It was a peaceful night, one she hadn't had many chances to admire before. But with this new chance, she would savor the moon's glow and the star systems shimmers.
The mare, a young unicorn of many shades of blue, sat up on the blanket. Wondering where she should take herself now. Should she stay with Starlight in Ponyville? Or leave and look for new opportunity elsewhere...it was a tantalizing concept to her. She hadn't done a successful show in months. It might be a bit sudden for the Great and Powerful Trixie to magically spark up once more. But it might just be worth it.
She stood, walking to the cart. She brought the blanket along with her magic, and set it aside in the cart. She would take the opportunity of finding her place in Equestria. Even if that possibility had been dwindling for ages. She now had a chance at something new. And she, The Greatest and Powerful-est, would not waste her time stargazing, for she had a show to put on. She began pulling the small cart with no goodbyes. She didn't need to say goodbye, because it sounded like a permanent promise.
She stopped by a small restaurant, bordering the river that cut past the area. She parked her cart, and walked into the small establishment. Quaint was a perfect word for the diner. It looked like your average diner. Wedged between trees and a river. It was near empty, only the cook and a stallion were in the building. But Trixie wasn't picky with where she ate. This was a breakfast she needed to have, just for the energy to get to her next destination.
She sat in a booth, and the lady from behind the counter walked up cheerfully. She must've started her shift a little while ago. Or just really loves her job. "Can I take your order?" She asked.
"Hm...I'd like the toast and eggs, scrambled, and a glass of apple juice, please." Trixie said, trying to be as polite as she can be. This lady wasn't rude or mean. She was a cheery girl. So she was not about to be rude.
"Coming right up, Miss." The mare trotted to the cooking area, but the stallion stopped her and whispered something. Handing her some bits. Trixie thought nothing of it. It just seemed like he was the quiet type from the moment she had walked in. The mare nodded, and continued to do her job. As if this whispering was commonplace. The stallion left the diner shortly after.
When Trixie's food arrived, the lady who worked there explained, "Miss, your food has been paid for."
"What? By who?" Trixie asked, a bit confused.
"The gentlecolt who just left. He said he was a fan of your work." The mare explained further.
"Oh, well. I hope he knows I'm getting ready to put on another show soon. And I wish I could've thanked him.." Trixie said, using her fork to pick up some egg. The cook just shrugged, and said,
"He's a regular here. But I have no idea where he's from, how old he is. He's just a mystery."
This made Trixie think, he seemed shy. Wore a jacket that covered his neck and front hooves. He was another unicorn. No...he couldn't possibly be. This stallion...she knew him from somewhere. Her first show. He was just a teenager then. He came up to her after the show. And gave her a CD. It contained the music she has used for her shows ever since. That's what he wanted. But she never knew he'd remembered her. Then it all came back.
"Uh...hey Trixie." The small, fragile looking teenager spoke in a voice that read shyness.
"Oh! Hello there, did you like the show?" Trixie had replied. She had hyped up the show since the beginning of the year, and now here was her first fan.
"Y-yeah...I thought it was amazing. H-here." He held out the disk. She was confused at first. Then realized what he was giving her.
"Thanks, do you want to stick around? I want to hear what's on here." Trixie said politely. The teen nodded shyly. And a small smile crosses his face. She smiled too.
"I hope you like it, I was hoping you'd use it during your shows." The stallion said softly.
"Let's hear this." She put the disk in a stereo, and they listened to it. She loved it, and he seemed to be happy to be hearing it as well. Once they'd gotten through them. She smiled, and said, "These will definitely be a asset to my shows. Thanks for the gift."
"Yo-you mean it?" He said surprised.
"Of course. I wouldn't ever lie to a fan. Here." She pulled a ticket from her bag. It was a ticket to the next show he got around to seeing. His face lit up. Eyes alive with joy. This younger stallion was far more excited than any foal in the audience about this show. He stood and said, "I need to go home soon. Thanks, you're the greatest performer ever. Bye!"
Trixie waved as the teen ran off. Towards wherever he lived. That was the last time she saw him, but what he said became engraved in her memories.
Trixie, lost in memories, had eaten her meal and drank up her juice. But she had no memory of doing it. She quickly left a tip,and went to see if the stallion was still nearby. Luckily, he was getting his cart set up. She approached him, and said a quick, "Hey. Long time, no see."
His eyes darted to her. And his face lit up, the same way it did when she gave him that ticket. She noted the stallion now had his cutie mark, a purple and blue musical note with a triad of stars around it.
"Hey, it has been a long time." He responded his voice much deeper than before. The shy behavior no longer present.
"You seem a whole lot different now. You're all grown up. Did you ever get to see another show of mine?"
"Not exactly...my dad tore up the ticket when he saw it..." He explained.
"Oh. That's a shame...but you know, I'm heading out to Vanhoover for a show. Want to come along?"
"I can't. I'm a performer myself. Got a show in Ponyville. Booked for the Summer Sun Celebration and later this year I'll be working with DJ-Pon3 at the Lunar Solstice Festival."
"Ooh. When will that be going on?" She asked, wanting to see his show. His eyes glinted with happiness hearing that question.
"In two days. Want to hear some of my set?" He asked. Trixie nodded ecstatically. "Good. Hold on to your magician hat, Trixie."
He brought out a guitar, amp, and a generator. As well as a drum kit and keyboard. She was confused how he'd go about these three when she realized, his cutie mark signaled the three instruments he could multitask. With out a warning he began to play his first track, he told her as he played the opening, "This one's called 'Idolize', named after the pony that ponies take their inspiration from."
He sent thought the song playing the instruments with no problems. No mistakes. He was a professional at multitasking his songs. The guitar was firm, the drums smooth, and the keystrokes a clean flow. He got really into it. That when she realized a vague similarity between the drum solo and her fanfare. This song was about her.
When he finished playing she clapped, not out of respect. Out of pure enjoyment. She loved the song, and she felt her heart pound when he looked into her eyes. She knew what this was. He was in love with her for so long, and never got a chance to tell her in any way up until now. He got real close to her and said.
"Trixie...I really cared about you. I never got to go to your shows. But I never forgot you. But you never knew my name. I can tell, that not matter that, you love me too. You just never knew. You never though to much about it." He then followed it with, "My name is Dusk. By the way. Hope to see you at the Summer Sun Celebration. Because I have a surprise for you."
Trixie's heart fluttered with a love she had suppressed for her whole career as an entertainer. And she knew. Whatever the surprise was, she had to give him this before he left. She grabbed his jacket collar, and gave him a gentle kiss. He seemed unsurprised by the action, as if he had known it would happen. When the two went to their carts. Trixie decided, I can wait to perform. He is more important.
That's what she really needed. Not a performance. Not a new location. Love.
