Starlight Summons A Demon
“Don’t you think we should wait until the rest get here?” Sunburst asked, drawing more lines on the floor.
“Usually I would,” Starlight answered, doublechecking his work. “But Trixie is a bit too superstitious, and Thorax might be a King now, but I don’t think he’s brave enough for this. And do you really want Discord to be involved?”
“Fair point,” he said. “Where’d you even get the idea for this?”
“Twilight’s slumber party book,” she answered.
“Really?” he asked, looking at the finished circle.
“Well, the Slumber Party book said ‘Bloody Mare-y’ is a good game to play,” she shrugged, stepping into place. “So summoning a demon is a step up, right?”
“Probably,” he agreed. “What could go wrong?
“Here we go!” she exclaimed.
Starlight lit her horn and blasted the center of the circle. The whole thing began to glow blue. The wind picked up. It felt as if a tornado had begun in the center of the room. The circle opened up to a pit of shadow.
They both screamed and swore as the pit began to pull them in. Books and papers were flying past them, into the void. They scrambled against the tugging behind them.
The wind began to stop. Both ponies risked a glance at the circle, no, the portal on the floor. A creature was rising out of it. At first it was just a shadowy mass, but as it gained form, Starlight was sure her heart stopped.
The creature was a Ram, obvious by the horns curling around its ears. An enormous Ram, probably close in height to Princess Celestia, covered in blue hair. Around its neck was a red sash, with a golden bell looped onto it. And his eyes, oh stars, his eyes were glowing red.
Neither pony dared to speak. They were both asking themselves ‘what did you expect when you tried to summon a demon?’. They jumped when it opened its mouth to speak.
“’Sup fuckers?” the Ram said. “Y’all having a slumber party? Can I join? I’ll bring Twister!”
“H-hello, sir,” Starlight began. “We are indeed having a slumber party, and one of the events is summoning a Demon.”
“Naturally,” the Ram smirked. “I am-“
At that moment, the doors burst open. Twilight galloped in, quickly followed by Princess Celestia.
“Starlight! Are you okay?” Twilight shouted. “We heard screaming and-“
She stopped, staring at the Ram.
“What’s going-“ Celestia began. Seeing the Ram as well, she stopped in her tracks.
“Hello, Princess Celestia,” the Ram said.
“Son of fuckstorm,” Celestia jumped.
“Now, is that any way to speak in front of your subjects?” the Ram asked.
“Grogar,” she answered.
“Yes, it is I,” Grogar answered. “The Necromancer Demon King, terror to all! Probably a few other titles in there too.”
“Let me guess,” Twilight sighed. “Another evil you defeated a thousand years ago that fell out of history until it showed up on my doorstep?”
“That’s only happened four times,” Celestia defended.
“Five,” she corrected.
“Chrysalis wasn’t evil the last time I saw her before the wedding,” she said.
“Wish I could’ve been there to see that,” Grogar said. “I’ve heard it was quite interesting.”
“Speaking of,” she frowned, turning back to Grogar. “How are you here? You’re supposed to be in the Shadow Realm.”
“Your banishment spells do not stop Summons,” he shrugged.
“Who would summon-“ her eyes flicked to Starlight and Sunburst. “Tell me you didn’t.”
“Okay, so we hadn’t exactly intended to summon him specifically,” Starlight defended.
“We had planned on a smaller demon,” Sunburst said.
“Why would you summon a demon?” Twilight asked.
“Your slumber party book suggested ‘Bloody Mare-y’ so this was the logical step up,” Starlight answered.
“To be fair, Mr. Grogar here seemed okay with it,” Sunburst said. “He offered to bring Twister.”
Twilight just sighed and brought her hoof to her face. Celestia tilted her head in confusion.
“You were okay with a slumber party?” Celestia asked.
“Been to quite a few over the centuries, oddly enough,” Grogar said. “Slumber parties, dares, school pranks, quite a few things that managed to slip under your radar. It also helped me keep up with what’s going on in the world. Congratulations on getting Luna and Discord back, by the way.”
“Aren’t you supposed to be declaring me your enemy and trying to attack?” she asked.
“For trapping me in the Shadow Realm?” he laughed. “I may be a demon, but we made a deal. You win the card game, I get banished and stop doing evil. Besides, centuries of my only contact being twelve year olds who got into their parent’s magic books have helped mellow me out.”
“Are you-“ she chuckled to herself, “Are you saying that you, Grogar, Necromancer Demon King, have found the Magic of Friendship?”
“I wouldn’t go that far,” he answered. “I haven’t really made a friend I could be with for more than a summon. But the most ‘evil’ I’ve done lately is teach your ‘blankflanks’ to swear, and occasionally cheat at board games.”
“Speaking of,” Starlight said. “If you want to play Twister, you might want to be smaller.”
“Starlight, you’re not seriously considering playing Twister with a demon?” Twilight asked.
“To be fair,” she said, “we were planning on playing Twister with Discord.”
“I-I can’t even think of an argument for that,” she sighed. “Call me if you need me to blast him, and don’t accidently sell your soul.”
“I do deals for candy now,” Grogar shrugged. “Or alcohol, if my Summoner has some on hoof.”
“I don’t think alcohol and Twister is a good idea,” Sunburst said.
“It’s better than your twelfth birthday,” Starlight scoffed. “Remind me whose idea it was to put water and dish soap in a bouncy castle?”
“Either Lance or Sunset,” he answered. “And you have a point.”
“I got summoned in a bouncy castle once,” Grogar said. “Unfortunately, it didn’t like my weight.”
“Hey, think you can work out a Reformation Program for him?” Starlight asked, turning to Princess Celestia.
“We’ll think about it,” Celestia mused. “Have your slumber party, and tell me how it goes. And Grogar, you’ll get a cart of candy as long as you refrain from making any deals while they have summoned you, or causing any kind of physical or mental harm, past what is allowed in a game of Twister. This applies to all sapient creatures you interact with, not just the Summoner.”
“Alright,” Grogar agreed, somehow rolling his blank eyes. “Nothing that would break your society’s law, as long as I get to scare the hell out of Discord. He’ll be fine, even by your standards.”
“Deal,” she agreed.
