Echo's misadventuresby atronosthelastChaptersLunch and a Cardboard BoxRabbitsStarfishLunch and a Cardboard BoxTimes had been hard on Echo. She had lost her job months ago and her family had turned her away, not wanting such a failure in their life. She had wandered for miles upon miles, begging for food or money wherever she went. One day, she had wandered into the city of Canterlot. The guards would often shoo her on but she knew that if she set up in the right places, the guard wouldn't bother with her. She had set up in a small alleyway near a grocery store. She wasn't going to get much traffic down there but it was better than being thrown out onto the dirt. As she lay in a large cardboard box, she looked out upon the mass of ponies passing by, wishing that one day she could be among them. As she scanned the crowd, her eyes fell upon an odd creature. It stood on two legs and held its forelegs on either side of its body. Its eyes were small and the only hair that she could see resided on the top of its head. As she stared in awe of the creature, it turned its head towards her. They simply stared at eachother, both unsure on how to act. After a while, the being turned to speak with the ponies at its side. She had neglected to see that it had multiple ponies at its legs. She recognised them, of course. The Element of Harmony were kind of difficult to not recognise at that point. Apparently done talking, the creature began to walk over to her. Realising the situation, the mare began backing up into the cardboard box in a futile attempt to hide from the being that was closing in on her. After what felt like hours, it reached her and knelt down to eye level with her. She quickly looked away, hoping that it would just leave. “Hey there” She was unsure of what was going on. She was certain she heard somepony speak to her. “Are you okay? You don't look so good,” Putting two and two together, she looked up and found the creature looking at her with a gentle smile. It didn't look like it was going to hurt her... “If you like, me and my friends are going over to a nearby café, want to tag along?” It asked, that smile still present. The offer for food almost overwhelmed her. For so long she had been scrounging what she could in a meagre attempt to feed herself, and now this... being was offering her food. It almost seemed too good to be true. Slowly, it raised its paw towards her. She saw it as a friendly gesture, not one of malicious intent. And so, with a small hesitation, she smiled and put her hoof in its paw, accepting the help up. 'Maybe things are starting to turn around...' RabbitsIt was a sunny day in Ponyville, the princess had gone all out with the heat so many ponies had decided to spend the day outside. Echo happened to be one of those ponies. She had just been shopping and was heading home with her saddlebags full of food. She skipped along the dirt path that wound its way through the town, humming a random tune to herself and waving to any passer by that she recognised. As she turned a corner, she came face to face with the most horrifying thing she had ever seen. It was a small animal, white in colour. It had four little paws and large ears protruding from the top of its head. To any other pony, they would simply just smile and walk by, but this was Echo. Staring in shock, she watched as the animal turned to face her. It gave a little sniff before hopping closer to her. “S-Stay back!” She called out, unsure as to whether the beast before her planned an attack. The creature simply stared at her with its cold, dead eyes and took another hop forward. Echo whimpered and started to move back further, hoping to move away from the strange animal. But for every step she took, the beast took two more. Eventually, it came close enough for it to touch her. Echo had frozen a few seconds before it had arrived. Slowly, the animal raised its paw and gave her hoof a solid 'Thwack'. Any pony nearby would most certainly say they hadn't heard a more girly scream. Apparently many ponies in the market saw a grey streak fly past, knocking over multiple items from the stalls there. Meanwhile, the rabbit just sat there, looking at where the pegasus had previously stood. “Angel! There your are! I was worried sick, you shouldn't wander off like that.” A gentle voice came. The animal recognised it immediately, of course, and with one last look towards the direction the mare had run off to, it smiled and hopped towards its guardian. He was going to have some fun over the next few weeks. StarfishEcho skipped happily down the edge of the beach outside her town. She had been hunting for shells and had found quite a few within the rock pools across the sands. As she went along with her search, she listened as the seagulls called out above to eachother. After a short while, she heard an odd sound. She looked in the direction of it to find a small red starfish sitting on a rock out of the water. Curious as to why it had left its natural environment, she walked over to it and knelt down to get a closer look at it. At this distance she could almost swear it had facial features... almost as if it- “Sup,” The grey pony screamed in shock and flew back, her eyes focused on the little animal. It had opened two blankly staring eyes at was looking right back at her. “See something you like?” It asked. Echo's mouth dropped, her wings faltering slightly as everything she thought she knew began to crash around her. “Y'know it's not polite to stare,” Echo promptly fainted at that, her body hitting the ground with a 'thump'. Seeing that the pony had been brought down, the starfish rose to its two legs and walked over to her. When it had climbed up on the torso of the pony it began thrusting up and down. When it had finished its ritual, it jumped down and began walking away to find more potential victims. “Fuckin' noobs these days,”
