My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Season X

   We open up to see Twilight Sparkle reading a book in the Friendship Castle Library. Pinkie Pie bursts through the door to the library, which startles Twilight.

“HEY TWILIGHT!!!”  Pinkie yells.

Twilight Sparkle looks at Pinkie and has an annoyed look on her face.

“What is it now, Pinkie?” Twilight asks.

“A new friend of mine wants to start playing a game he made and wants to have as many players in it as possible! The more players the better!” Pinkie Pie says.

“Why are you telling me this?” Twilight asks.

“Because I thought you might want to take a break from your reading for awhile.” Pinkie says.

“I'll think about it.” Twilight says.

“Great! Bye!” Pinkie Pie says.

Pinkie Pie slams the door closed and she's gone. Spike shows up as she leaves.

“What did Pinkie want?” Spike asks.

Twilight looks to Spike.

“She wants me to play a game with her that a friend came up with. I don't know if it's a good idea.” She says.

“Well, it would get you out of the castle. It seems like you haven't left in ages.” Spike says.

Twilight looks over at the door, then back to her books. She closes her eyes and sighs.

  We next see Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy and Spike in a house, looking at Pinkie Pie. She is standing next to a black stallion unicorn with black fur, a red mane and dark brown eyes. He has a cutie mark that has a feather and a red inkwell next to it. Pinkie has her arm around this pony and smiles.

“Girls, let me introduce you to my new best friend: Black Cherry.” Pinkie says.

“Isn't everypony in Ponyville your best friend?” Rarity asks.

“Well, yeah, but Black Cherry became my new extra special best friend just recently. Ever since he started telling me about a game he came up with.” Pinkie says.

“What's the name of it?” Applejack asks.

“I call the game Burrows and Bugbears. Probably the first of it's kind in all of Equestria.” Black Cherry finally says.

Twilight brings a hoof up to her face and looks off to the side.

“Wait, Black Cherry. I know that name from somewhere.” She says.

Black Cherry smiles.

“Oh! You must have read some of the books I've written.” He says.

Twilight looks back and smiles.

“Of course! Your name has been on some mystery novels and adventure stories I've read! I always love reading them since it felt like I was really there!” She says.

“That was the idea. My specialty is making ponies see what I want them to see. So each book I write has a spell on it that makes you see in your mind what you're reading.” Black Cherry says.

“I must learn how you do that sometime.” Twilight says.

“So what kind of game is this anyway?” Rainbow Dash asks.

“Glad you asked.” Black Cherry says.

He walks over to a table that has what looks like a map on it. There are six pony like figures on it.

“In this game, you play as a certain character class and go on quests for random strangers. Each quest can be completed in different ways.

When it's done, you get experience points and bits. You need experience to level up your character and get better stats than you did before. The bits are for getting better equipment and other things.” He says.

Fluttershy has a nervous look on her face.

“It sounds kind of dangerous...” Fluttershy says.

“Not at all. It's make believe and it's only limited by your imagination, as well as mine.” Black Cherry says.

“Ah don't get it.” Applejack says.

Black Cherry closes his eyes and his horn starts to emit black magic.

“Here, let me show you.” Black Cherry says.

Black Cherry start to sing a song all about the places they can go, the creatures they can see, the riches they can obtain and the perils they can encounter. Finishing off with how even if they don't win the day, they will still have fun through it all. When he's done, we're back in the house again.

“Well, what do you think?” Black Cherry asks.

Pinkie Pie hops up and down.

“I think we should all play together! It will be more fun that way, right?” Pinkie Pie says.

Black Cherry looks to Pinkie Pie.

“That's right. The minimum is one or two players and the absolute maximum is six. So if all of you decided to play, then it would be perfect.” Black Cherry says.

Spike has had a thinking look on his face for quite some time now and he looks up.

“But why the name Burrows and Bugbears?” Spike asks.

“I wanted to have a name that had a nice ring to it. I had to reject a lot of names before I came up with that one.” Black Cherry says.

“Such as?” Rarity asks.

“Let's see. There was Mazes and Monsters, Castles and Critters, Houses and Humans.” Black Cherry says.

“Humans?” Fluttershy asks.

“It's a new type of creature I came up with. You'll meet them later.” Black Cherry says.

“Any others?” Rainbow Dash asks.

“Many more. The one I refused to ever use was Dungeons and Dragons.” Black Cherry says.

Spike has an angry look on his face.

“Hey! That would be an insult to dragons everywhere!” He says.

“That's exactly why I rejected it. I finally settled on the name Burrows and Bugbears.” Black Cherry says.

Black Cherry then has an evil smile on his face as he rubs his hooves together.

“So, are you all game?” He asks.

CUT TO COMMERCIAL!

We come back and see that Black Cherry is still rubbing his hooves together with an evil grin on his face. Pinkie Pie is looking at him with a big smile on her face and the others are looking at him with unsure looks on their faces. Black Cherry asks:

“Well?”

Twilight shrugs her shoulders and says:

“Well, I guess so.”

Black Cherry stops rubbing his hooves together and has a big smile on his face as he says:

“Great! Come over to the table here and we can get started!”

The other five and Spike come over to the table. What they see on it is what looks like a map that's similar to the map of Equestria in the Friendship Castle, but quite different in many parts of it. Applejack asks:

“So how do we play this game?”

Black Cherry says:

“Well first, you need to create characters that you will be playing the role as. Then, you have your characters act out whatever you tell them to do. I call it a role playing game because of that.”

Rarity smiles and says:

“That's quite the fitting term, Darling.”

Black Cherry then says:

“Considering that you don't exactly know how to make characters yet, I went ahead and made some that I thought would be perfect for each of you.”

Fluttershy asks:

“You made characters based on us?”

Pinkie Pie says:

“I told him all about each of you, so that he had something to work with as he created them.”

Rainbow Dash rolls her eyes and says:

“My, how convenient.”

Spike asks:

“Are you sure you created characters for all of us?”

Black Cherry says:

“Sure did. I even have a way of getting you in there, in case you wanted to play along.”

Spike looks away and smiles as he says:

“Aw, gee, thanks.”

Black Cherry uses dark red unicorn magic to pull out six sheets of paper. He then says:

“Each character has a certain outlook on life, so I chose each one as best as I could figure it.”

One sheet goes in front of Applejack as Black Cherry's voice says:

“Applejack, you are a neutral good warrior. That means that to you, doing what's right is more important than what the laws of the land happen to be.”

Applejack smiles and says:

“Yer gosh darned raht Ah do.”

The next sheet goes in front of Pinkie Pie as Black Cherry's voice says:

“Pinkie Pie, you are a chaotic good ranger. That means you're into doing things your way, but always for what you consider to be the best for everyone.”

Pinkie Pie closes her eyes and hops up and down as she says:

“Woo-hoo!”

Another sheet goes in front of Twilight Sparkle as Black Cherry's voice says:

“Twilight, you are a lawful good paladin. That means you believe in good and try to uphold the law as much as possible.”

Twilight Sparkle smiles and says:

“That sure sounds like me.”

A sheet goes in front of Rarity as Black cherry's voice says:

“Rarity, you are a lawful good wizard. The same as Twilight, and as a wizard you are allowed to dress yourself in any fashionable attire you please.”

Rarity flips her hair and smiles as she says:

“But of course, Darling.”

A sheet goes in front of Fluttershy and Black Cherry says:

“Fluttershy, you are true neutral druid. That means you try to keep the balance between good and evil. Also, you can summon some animal friends and even become them at times.”

Fluttershy smiles and says:

“I like the sound of that.”

The final sheet goes in front of Rainbow Dash and Black Cherry's voice says:

“Rainbow Dash, you are a chaotic neutral thief. That means you do whatever you feel like, which sometimes leads you into trouble.”

Rainbow Dash raises her hooves into the air and says:

“I'm feeling it already.”

Spike asks:

“What about me?”

We see Black Cherry as he looks at Spike and says:

“As a wizard, Rarity has the ability to have a familiar. Basically an animal companion to travel with.”

Spike folds his arms and looks away with an annoyed look on his face as he says:

“Way to have me contribute to the party. Not.”

Black Cherry says:

“Well, it was the only way I could get you in there without creating another character sheet. And besides, as an animal that speaks pony, you could be the wild card that ends up saving the day.”

Twilight tilts her head and raises an eyebrow as she asks:

“Pony?”

Black Cherry looks to Twilight and says:

“It's the most used language in the game world. There are other languages as well, but for the most part every intelligent being you come across will speak it.”

Twilight smiles and says:

“I see.”

Rarity is looking closely at the map and says:

“Black Cherry, Darling, this map you have here is simply amazing. You must tell me how you made it.”

Black Cherry says:

“Well, I didn't. I'm not very good at drawing things, so I had my sister Red Cherry do that for me.”

Black Cherry uses a hoof to point over somewhere and we move over to a red furred crystal mare with a black mane. She has a cutie mark that looks like three coffee beans. She smiles and waves at the screen. Rainbow Dash asks:

“That's your sister?”

Black Cherry says:

“Step sister, actually. Long story.”

Fluttershy asks:

“If we're all playing characters, how do we know what's going on?”

Black Cherry looks to Fluttershy and says:

“Good question. Since I created the game, and you need somepony to tell you what you're seeing, I will be what's called the Burrow Master. Or BM if you like.”

Rainbow Dash picks up a couple of dice next to a strange looking contraption and asks:

“What are these for?”

Black Cherry says:

“What you have there are dice. They are used to determine whether you succeeded or failed something you attempted to do. When attacking, they also determine how much damage you do.”

Black Cherry opens the top of the contraption and says:

“As for what this is, it's a dice roller. You put the dice in here, use the gear on the side to make the dice roll and then when you think they have rolled enough, you hit the button on top. At which point the dice come out of a chute at the bottom.”

Rainbow Dash looks at the dice in her hoof very intently. She then puts them in the device and closes the top. She turns the gear and the sound of dice rolling around can be heard. After a couple of seconds, she stops moving the gear and hits down on the button. At the bottom of the device, the dice roll down out of a chute onto the table. Rainbow Dash smiles and says:

“Hey. Cool.”

Black Cherry says:

“Three more things before we start the game. One, each of you will have what I call special talents. It's basically an ability that you have which you got good at in your own time.”

He looks at Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash and points to each of them as he says:

“Normally, flying would be a special talent. However, since Twilight, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash can already fly, that doesn't use up a special talent slot for them.”

Twilight asks:

“How many special talent slots do we have?”

Black Cherry says:

“To start off, you have six main special talents, two weapon special talents and two armour special talents. As you level up, you will get more.”

Pinkie Pie asks:

“But how do we know which special talents we have?”

Black Cherry pulls out a giant sheet of paper and says:

“I created a list of special talents that players could have. Look it over and write down what you think would be the best for you.”

Black Cherry uses magic to put a quill in front of everypony and Spike says:

“Well, I guess I'll wait over here then.”

Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash all now look closely at the paper.

CUT TO COMMERCIAL!

We come back and see everypony seemingly finishing writing down their special talents on their character cards. Black Cherry looks away and puts a hoof behind his head as he says:

“Wow, this is taking a little longer than I expected.”

He looks forward and smiles as he says:

“It's a good thing, though. It means you care a lot about what your characters can do. You even came up with some special talents I hadn't thought of and had me approve them.”

Fluttershy smiles and says:

“Well, it was actually a lot of fun. I was kind of surprised you let me have my ability to talk to animals be a natural special talent. Now I can use a slot for something else.”

Black Cherry says:

“Your natural special talents shouldn't take up a slot, as far as I'm concerned.”

Black Cherry rolls his eyes away and says:

“Of course, that just means your real special talents will have to be even better to make up for it.”

Rainbow Dash says:

“You mentioned there were two other things we should know about before we start.”

Black Cherry looks forward and says:

“Right! In this game, you have something called an Armour Class. When you don't have any armour on, the Armour Class is ten. As you put better armour on, it goes down until it gets to minus ten.”

Rarity asks:

“Why in the world did you do that instead of the other way around?”

Black Cherry says:

“Because this way, it makes things easier to use the Thaco system.”

Applejack raises an eyebrow and asks:

“Thaco?”

Black Cherry says:

“Yes. It means to hit armour class zero. It's also the third thing you need to know about.”

Black Cherry picks up one of the dice, the one that has twenty sides on it, and says:

“You and your enemies have a Thaco number. When you want to hit your enemy, you subtract their Thaco number from yours. When you roll a die, you need to get that number or higher in order to score a hit. Getting a twenty is a guaranteed hit no matter what.”

He puts the die down on the table and says:

“There are also ways to change the number so it goes up or down, but for now that's all you need to know about how it works.”

Spike asks:

“Just how long is this game anyhow?”

Black Cherry looks at Spike and says:

“It can go for as quickly or as long as you like. As for how long a session is, I'm thinking each one should last for around fifteen to twenty minutes.”

Spike says:

“Well, I guess we can spare that much time for this.”

Black Cherry asks:

“Now, have you all decided on what your character backgrounds are yet?”

They all nod. Black Cherry says:

“Great. Let's hear them.”

Applejack says:

“Ah decahded Ah come from a farm with acres and acres of apples. At some point in tahme, Ah decahded to strahke out on mah own. Mostly because we needed more bits for new equipment and we plain couldn't afford it. Ah said goodbah to mah folks and here Ah am.”

Pinkie Pie next says:

“I was on a farm too! I spent my time shooting my party cannon at smaller and smaller rocks until one day I met a baby alligator. I named it Gummy and decided we should go on adventures together.”

Twilight Sparkle says:

“I was tasked with getting rid of as much evil in the world as possible by the princess. She has taught me much, but told me that from now on it's all up to me.”

Rarity says:

“My passion for fashion led me to leave the clothing shop where I worked. I carry many copies of our card, in case somepony wants to know where I got whatever new clothes I'm wearing. When I found out I could have a talking animal companion, I chose a baby dragon.”

Rarity turns to Spike and says:

“Spike, that's you.”

Spike raises his fists and sarcastically says:

“Yay, woohoo, I'm in the game finally.”

Fluttershy says:

“I come from a long line of animal doctors and decided to go out into the world to help as many as I can.”

Rainbow Dash says:

“I got bored with my normal life and decided that trying to take things not belonging to me was a lot more exciting. Most of the time, I only take things that the owner could probably live without.”

Black Cherry says:

“Right. You're all ready to step into the game world. Close your eyes and let me work my magic.”

Everypony closes their eyes. Black Cherry looks over at what looks like a wizard hat and puts it on. He closes his eyes and green flames come out of the sides of his closed eyes for a second. Black light comes out his horn and fills up the entire screen in black.
