Harmony Girls
1. A New Beginning
Load Full StoryThird Person
The sound of an alarm clock went off in many houses at 6.00am that day. One of those houses belonged to the Sparkles. Twilight Sparkle shot up out of bed.
"IT'S TIME!" She screamed and fell out of bed, landing flat on her face on the hard floor. She instantly pushed the pain aside and ran around her room grabbing everything she valued and stuffed them in a big carrier bag she had set up by the door.
Spike, her dog, rubbed against her leg and whined.
"Sorry Spike, I just can't believe it's finally time!" She squealed in excitement. She picked him up and put him down on the desk by her window. "Time for me to attend the magic academy I applied for years ago! Time for well... my time!" She sighed as she gazed out the window, leaning her elbow in the ledge and admiring the serene environment of the neighborhood she had dwelled in all her life in San Francisco which she had grown accustomed to all those years back.
"I always felt like there was something missing in my life! It was all too easy and plain, no challenges seemed to come my way! But not anymore! Life is like a book as I always say! One bad chapter in my life, will not define my story and I'm ready to open a brand new one!" She exclaimed and turned to Spike, noticing the blank expression on his face. "I must be a pretty bad case if I've resorted to discussing my future with my dog!" She chuckled as she walked over to her grand bookshelf and picked another two books off of it and stuffed them into her bag pack.
She got dressed in her school uniform and stared at her reflection in the mirror.
"Better sort myself out!" Twilight brushed out her knotted hair to its usual flat self and let it flow down to her waste. She wasn't too bothered on appearance as long as she looked smart and presentable.
"It's like it was meant for me!" She told herself as she dusted off the skirt and flattened out all the wrinkles in her shirt as it was still a bit big for her. She had urged her parents to buy it for her shortly after she applied for the school and they bought the biggest they could find as they didn't know how big their daughter would be four years later!
"Twilight! Breakfast's ready!" Called Twilight Velvet, her mother, from downstairs.
"Be right there, mother!" Twilight responded loudly. She took one last look at herself in the mirror before heading downstairs to get something to eat.
Velvet was at the stove, cooking pancakes and cheerfully humming a melody under her breath and her father was at the table, reading through a book. He looked up from it and beamed at his daughter.
"Well aren't you looking like a proper young lady, Twilight?" He complimented.
She blushed. "Heh, thanks father!"
Velvet turned around and handed her daughter a small pile of pancakes on a plate, drenched in maple syrup.
"There you go, honey! Just the way you like them!" She said as she gently placed them in front of her.
"Thank you mother."
Twilight Velvet stepped back and admired her daughter in her new uniform. The memories of how excited Twilight was to finally attend Celest Academy came flooding back to her causing tears of nostalgia to well in her eyes.
Twilight looked up at her in concern. "Mother, are you alright?" She asked.
"More than happy! To see my pride and joy finally achieve her life long dream is just-" Velvet couldn't finish her sentence and wept into Nightlight, her husband's, shoulder. Their daughter smirked at the scene in amusement.
"Hey give us a break" her father replied as he shed a tear. "It's quite emotional!"
She shrugged and continued to munch on her meal. Twilight Sparkle wasn't one to usually scoff down her food, but she needed all the time she could get before she had to leave to the railway station and board a train that would lead her to none other than Celest Academy in Seattle.
She rushed upstairs and triple checked she wasn't forgetting anything. In total, she was taking her purse, one bag pack, one carrier bag and a small dog carrier to take Spike with her to the academy. Apparently it was precautionary to bring a pet along with you and Twilight was more than happy to have Spike come with her. The essentials did include her phone, her journal, her wallet and of coarse her many many books!
"Alright, I'm all set!" Twilight spoke in determination. She said her goodbyes to everyone she knew prior that day. It didn't take that long though, she only had her parents really as she didn't really have any friends here as they all ridiculed her for being 'too smart.' To Twilight Sparkle, there was no such thing as being too smart. She was on a never ending quest for knowledge ever since she learned the definition of the word 'magic.' Now she was actually going to experience it first hand!
"Well, I'm off!" She smiled as she approached the front door.
"Goodbye Twilight!" Nightlight exclaimed as he gave his daughter a tight hug.
"Remember to call us every day while you're gone!" Velvet insisted. Twi rolled her eyes but nodded nonetheless. "And say hello to Shining Armour for us!"
"I'll take note of that! I'll miss you!" She replied.
"Oh we'll miss you too!" Her mother cried as the family went in for one last group hug. Twilight waved them goodbye and lugged her bags out with her. She began her short walk towards the station.
Before she knew it, the Friendship Express had already pulled up at Seattle station. 'What an odd name for a vehicle' she thought to herself. Peering down at her dog, she said "Alright Spike! Next on the agenda, to hire a taxi that'll get us to Celest Academy and then it's hello all the knowledge I've been lacking for the most part of my life!" She squealed. "Come on!"
No matter how hard she tried, Twilight couldn't get a cab driver to notice her and pull over! Whenever one did, somebody else would rudely push in front of her and steal it! She was about to give up and walk it when she felt a gentle tap on her shoulder and someone spoke up.
"Here, let me help you darling" she said. Twilight turned around to see a tall, thin girl wearing bright blue eye shadow on the eyelids of her royal blue eyes and curly deep purple hair that went down to her waste. The first thing she noticed about her was that she was wearing the same uniform that she was. The girl placed two of her well manicured finger nails in her mouth and let out an ear piercing whistle. A cab immediately screeched to a halt in front of them.
"It's all in the spectacle" she smiled and turned to the driver.
"Yes, could you kindly take this young lady to uh... Where are you heading to dear?"
"Celest Academy" Twi mumbled.
"Yes Celest Academy" The girl confirmed.
"Sure thing!" The driver replied.
"Thanks darling, you're a gem" she winked at him causing him to drool. "I suppose I'll see you there!" She told Twilight as she loaded the back of the taxi.
"Oh? Are you attending Celest Academy as well?" Twi asked anxiously.
"Indeed I am!"
"Then why don't you just come with me and take this taxi?"
"Oh how generous! Are you sure it's not too much trouble?"
"It's the least I can do! If it weren't for you, I'd probably still be at the cab stand being drenched in rain!"
"Oh thank you! I shall go and grab my things, love! I won't be a moment!" And with that the girl hurried off. She came back with a trolley crammed full of many designer bags.
"Be a dear and help me load, will you?" She requested.
"Of coarse" Twi responded. It didn't take them too long to be set to go. The both of them climbed in the back seat, a pet carrier in each's possession.
"I don't believe I caught your name!" She told Twilight as the taxi drove down a main road.
"Twilight Sparkle" She replied, holding out her hand.
"Rarity" she took it. "It's a pleasure to meet you."
"The pleasure's all mine!" TS responded. Suddenly, a growl sounded from Spike. "But apparently not my dog's. Honestly, Spike!"
This growl was returned by a sharp hiss. "Opalescence! Where are your manners?" Rarity scolded. "Don't worry about it dear, nor is it my cat's."
The two conversed the entire car ride, making jokes and discussing their expectations. After a forty minute wait, the car finally pulled up outside the grand gates of Celest Academy.
"We're here already?" Twilight asked, a bit surprised, as she leaned on the door to look out the window. It was raining heavily so all she could make out was the outline of the grand estate.
"It seems so" Rarity replied. She payed the driver plenty more than the amount of money he required. "Keep the change" she smiled.
"Gee lady, you sure are something" he replied in awe then shook his head to gain his composure. "Pleasure to be of service!" He helped the two get their luggage out and into the building before speeding off to his next pickup.
"You really are something Rarity" Twilight added.
"Aww, think nothing of it! But would you look at this place! It's simply magnificent!" She gasped as she marveled at the grand hall. The hustle and bustle of the many students made both Rarity and Twi dizzy.
"Say, what learning group are you in? I was told I am Desear, whatever that means" Rare asked her.
"According to the letter of acceptance I received three months ago, I'm a Mystic" she replied.
"People please!" Came a voice amplified by a bullhorn. "Make the groups clear! Mystics to the left, Desears to the middle and Ortics to the right!" The two girls looked over to see a tall woman with shoulder length pink hair that had a thick, white streak in it. Her green eyes looked sorrowfully over at the mess of teenagers before her.
"Well I suppose I'll see you around then!" Twilight told Rarity.
"Indeed, I wish you the best of luck!" Rarity responded and with that, dumped most of her luggage next to the wall and headed off to join the other Desears.
Twilight Sparkle's POV
Alright Twilight, you can do this! Why did Rarity have to be a in a different group than me? Hopefully the other pupils will be as interactive as she was! I didn't know what to focus my attention to. My eyes swiveled around in every direction but right in front of me. I felt myself bump into someone. I opened my eyes to see a pair of sparkling blue ones staring down at me.
"Wow, hi there!" He said as he helped me up.
"I'm sorry, I should've watched where I was going" I said quickly, not wanting to hear him ridicule me like everyone else did. I stared at him. He was only taller than me by a bit and had spiky blue hair to match his eyes.
"Hey it was just as much of my fault as yours! Don't be so hard on yourself!" He replied. I gaped. He actually helped me up and partially blamed himself! Usually, the person would have just left me on the floor and laughed! Maybe this really was a change for the better! I hadn't realized that I made it uncomfortable for the guy with my silence.
He cleared his throat as he rubbed the back of his neck. "The name's Flash Sentry."
"Oh sorry, my name is Twilight Sparkle" I replied.
"Nice to meet you! Which house do you belong in?"
"As far as I know, a Mystic."
"That's too bad, I'm a Ortic" he responded. Too bad? Did he want to spend time with me? Had I just gained another friend?!
"FLASH SENTRY!" Came a girl's voice from behind him. A girl with pink hair with a turquoise streak in it approached us. "Who are you talking to?"
"Hey Sour Sweet, I was just talking to Twilight here" Flash told her.
"Uha... Well once you're done sweetie I would love for you to meet some new Ortics! Twilight are you an Ortic too?" She asked me.
"Um... no, I-"
"Well see you around, Twilight!" She cut me off. "Hopefully not" I heard her add under her breath. What's her deal?
"Oh uh- goodbye Flash!" I called as she dragged him away.
"Bye!" I heard him yell back. I swear I saw her turn around and glare at me. She briefly ran by me and leaned in to my ear.
"I suggest you stop flirting with my boyfriend" She whispered. "Well bye!" She smiled 'sweetly' and skipped off. Flirting? Boyfriend? I blushed at the thought. Oh that's her deal!
"Well Twilight, might as well befriend some fellow Mystics" I said to myself and turned to the large crowd in front of me which made me gulp.
Rarity's POV
I simply cannot imagine why we are to be separated into groups. Maybe it's based off of varying abilities? Alright Rarity, time to socialize I suppose. I walked over towards the rest of my group and noticed a bigger crowd towards the front. Out of curiosity, I approached it to see what all the commotion was about.
It was a boy who seemed a bit older than me who had wavy blue hair and gleaming blue eyes. He looks quite handsome if you ask me! No wonder everyone is making such a fuss around him. I cautiously made my way through the crowd to get a better look at him. I don't know if he noticed but I seemed to be the only girl in his 'audience' not swooning. He seemed to be staring towards my direction followed by everybody else. Why? Was his 'supermodel' girlfriend about to make her grand entrance behind me or something?
"You" he started to me. I looked behind me to see if he was in fact talking to me.
"Me?" I pointed to myself in disbelief. He nodded.
"Indeed, come over here" he ushered me over to him and smiled. "You seem lost, what is your name?" He asked me.
"I-I" Rarity, gain your composure! "My name is Rarity."
"Charmed. I am Fancy Pants, now tell me, are you a Desear, m'lady?"
"As a matter of fact I am. Are you?"
He grinned and nodded. Fancy is quite the gentleman!
"He's the most popular guy here!" Came a girl's voice.
"Most definitely!" Came a guy's. I am talking to the most popular guy on campus! I can't believe this! My popularity has skyrocketed in mere minutes!
Fluttershy's POV
Oh my... Take it easy Fluttershy, the first day is always the hardest- I guess... Or at least I hope so! I definitely don't want it to get any harder than this. I was told I am a Desear so I walked over to that area, hoping I wouldn't get noticed. Unfortunately, many noticed me. Weirdly enough, only boys... One of them reached out to shake my hand so I did the polite thing and took it but then he wouldn't let go! From the girls however, it was mostly glares! I hate being glared at! It makes me feel weak, let's face it, I kind of am...
I noticed a lot of commotion towards the front to see Fancy Pants, known as Head Desear and the most popular boy in school, chatting with a very pretty girl with long purple hair. I wish I could be as naturally confident as her... I turned around and bumped into a bouncing girl with poofy pink hair.
"HI!" She screamed causing me to squeal.
"Hey calm down! I just wanted to say hi to every one of my future classmates! I'm Pinkie Pie!" She chirped.
"I'm F-Fluttershy..." I whimpered.
"Speak up! I can't hear you!"
"I'm Fluttershy" I repeated a little louder, but only just.
"So what group are you in? I'm in something called 'Undecided'! I mean what kind of a name is that, am I right?!"
"I'm a Desear but um... Pinkie Pie? I think you might want to consider taking the name literally" I informed her in confusion. She maintained a blank expression for a moment when it finally hit her.
"Ohhhhhhh! That makes more sense! Thanks! See you around Fluttershy!" She skipped away. Well that sure was um... interesting...
Third Person
After a while, everybody settled down and were assigned to their rooms. They were all, of coarse, anxious to know who their roommate would be because that was the person you had to live with! Twilight Sparkle walked up the stairs to the third floor and stopped at the last door in the corridor to her right.
"Alright, this is it" she said to herself as she unlocked it. It creaked open ever so slightly revealing a medium sized girl with long curly red hair which had many blonde streaks in it. She seemed to be unpacking on the left bed. She turned around and her turquoise eyes widened when she spotted Twilight.
"Oh hello! Didn't see you there! I suppose you're my roommate, am I right?" She asked.
"Um, yes" Twi replied. "My name is Twilight Sparkle."
"Nice to meet you! I'm Sunset Shimmer!"
"So are you a Mystic like me?"
"Pfff what kind of question is that? Of coarse I am! They don't let people from different houses room together- not sure why- but rules are rules!" She replied.
Twilight nodded her head and looked over to the bed on the right. 'I guess this is mine then' she thought. She let Spike out of his carrier and he seemed pleased. The little dog was roaming around not caring where he went, just glad to finally stretch his legs!
"Hey is that your dog?" Sunset Shimmer asked.
"Oh yes" Twi looked up at her. "This is Spike!" She rubbed his belly.
"Cool! Hey Phiona!" Sunset called. In flew a elegant Phoenix that glowed when she perched in front of the window. "This is my pet Phoenix, Phiona" she explained.
"She's beautiful!" Twilight replied.
'So far so good Sparkle!' Twi told herself.
Fluttershy was cautiously walking down the hall to her room when she spotted the pretty girl with Fancy Pants from earlier walk into the room she was about to enter.
'It can't be! Is she my roommate! Let's just hope she doesn't walk all over me like my last one- stupid Zephyr Breeze!' Shy thought to herself. She took in a deep breath and walked in.
"Hi, my name is Fluttershy. I am your roommate" she said quickly. To her surprise, Rarity spun around and beamed at her.
"Why hello darling! I am Rarity and I cannot wait to get to know you!" She exclaimed.
"R-really?"
"But of coarse! My my my, your bunny is simply adorable!" She gushed. Flutters looked down at her pet rabbit which she held firmly in her grip.
"Thank you, his name is Angel" She told her.
Rarity smirked. "This is my cat Opalescence" she stepped aside revealing a fluffy Persian cat on her bed.
"Oh my! She's lovely!" Fluttershy squealed. She gently set Angel down on her bed and approached Opal.
"Do be careful, Opal isn't exactly the friendliest creature" Rare warned.
"It's alright" she responded as she sat down next to the cat who started to hiss and claw at her. Once Fluttershy's soft touch reached her fur, she was at ease and almost immediately started purring. "There there" she smiled.
"What? How? Whaaaat?" Rarity gaped. "However did you do that?"
"I certainly don't mean to brag or anything but I have a way with animals. She was just a bit grumpy because of the car ride, that's all!"
"I think you and I are going to get along just fine!" Rarity smiled much to Fluttershy's relief.
A country girl with messy blonde hair was feeling stressed.
"Shoot! Ah'm late!" She exclaimed as she lugged her duffel bags up the stair case. It got caught in the railing much to her frustration. Her dog was barking uncontrollably in front of her. The leash the girl was holding was the only thing holding her dog back from running away and getting completely lost.
"Can it Winona! Ugh move ya gosh darn bag!" She complained.
"Ya know yelling at it won't make much of a difference, right?" Someone commented. She stopped tugging and looked behind her to see a rainbow haired girl with magenta eyes smirking at her.
"Ah know that, smart Alec!" The blonde snapped.
"Yeesh alright!" The girl replied. She picked up the other side of the bag and helped the other carry it up the stairs. The cowgirl just moved on after that as she wasn't in the mood to put up with this girl's cheeky attitude.
"Uh your welcome!" She exclaimed as she followed her down the corridor.
"Thanks" she mumbled.
"Well alright then! My name's Rainbow Dash, and you are...?"
The country girl sighed. 'Well might as well try and be friends with her, last thing I need is an enemy...'
"Applejack" she replied. "So where you headin' to?"
"Room 314."
"Well Ah'll be, guess that'd make us roomies then."
"Guess so!"
The two took their bags with them and finally reached their room.
"So any idea what we do after we settle in?" Rainbow Dash asked.
"Hey, ah was almost as late as you were though ah believe we're gettin' the rest of the day off" AJ replied.
"Sweet! Though I think we should ask someone around to make sure" RD suggested.
"Good idea" Applejack replied.
"That your dog?"
"Eeyup! Her name's Winona!" Winona jumped on Dash and licked her face causing her to laugh. "Ah reckon she likes you! What about you? Where's yer pet?"
Rainbow got up and unzipped one of her bags. Nothing came out.
"Wake up ya lazy creature!" She demanded. Slowly but surely, a tortoise emerged from the case and yawned.
"Ah didn't take ya for the tortoise type, Rainbow!" Applejack smirked.
"Hey! Don't tease! Never underestimate Tank! He's unpredictable!"
AJ looked back at the still tortoise. "Ah bet he is!" She chuckled. Dash heavily rolled her eyes but moved on.
"I'll give him his time so uh... What do you wanna do?"
"Well first, ah don't wanna carry around this darn load any longer so unpackin' it is!"
"Boring!"
"Well might as well get it over with!"
"Ugh fine" Dash groaned.
When the two finally finished unpacking, they sat in silence.
"Alright! I say we go down to the cafeteria and meet other people!" Dash jumped off of her bed. "Are you in or are you in? Cuz I'm in!"
"Alright" AJ got off her bed and the two headed downstairs. They followed the sound of a crowd and found themselves in the cafeteria.
"Come on Fluttershy! We must meet the other students before they all gang up on us!" Rarity exclaimed as she tugged on her roommate's arm.
"Oh I don't know! Leaving Angel and Opal in the same room might not be a good idea!" Fluttershy retaliated.
"They'll be fine darling! You know that!"
"But-"
"Is this really about our critters, or is there another reason?" Rarity's voice softened as she let go of Flutters' arm.
"Well... Oh I guess I'm just n-n-nervous! To meet so many new people" She admitted.
"I'll be by your side every step of the way and you know that! What has you so distressed?"
"Well what if they don't like me? What if I make enemies instead of friends?"
"Oh darling! You are a beautiful girl with an amazing personality! You just need to learn to open up about it so everyone can see your true colors!"
"But I-"
Rarity placed a hand on her shoulder. "Please do this, for me?" She begged.
Fluttershy wasn't about to let her only friend down already. She mustered up some courage and then nodded. "Alright, let's go!"
"Huzza!" Rarity exclaimed as she pulled Fluttershy down the stairs and winded up in the cafeteria.
"Let us make some friends!" She announced.
Sunset's ears perked. "Do you hear that?" She asked Twilight.
Twilight was hanging up a Starswirl the Bearded poster above her bed and nodded.
"I do" she replied.
"Let's check it out! Come on!"
"Are you sure that's a good idea?"
"Well it has to be something important if there are so many students down there by the sounds of it! I think it's worth a look!"
"Okay then" Twilight sighed in defeat. The two locked the door behind them and found themselves in a grand cafeteria with countless benches. Many kids of all sorts were running around, talking, joking and more.
"Ugh, socializing? Really?" Sunset scoffed.
"Sure seems that way" Twilight replied as they looked on at the scene before them.
