A Love That Lasts Forever
Chapter 1
Load Full StoryNext ChapterFluttershy yawned, feeling extremely tired. She looked at her clock, 6 am, the usual time for her to get up. Stretching, she slowly tried to get out of the bed, only for a fluffy arm to wrap around her. Fluttershy was surprised at first, but then rolled her teal eyes.
"Discord, let go," said Fluttershy softly. "I need to take care of the animals. Oh, they are probably so hungry."
"Can you please cuddle for five more minutes?" asked Discord, turning Fluttershy around to meet his pleading eyes.
Fluttershy giggled. "You ask me every morning."
"And every morning you say yes," Discord added. Fluttershy gave a playful roll of her eyes, before nestling into Discord's soft and warm chest. She loved him. They have been married about forty five years now. Fluttershy was sixty six, but didn't look the part. Her face held youth, despite all the years she lived. There were two things that would tell anypony she was older than they thought. One was the fact that her mane was pure white, and her eyes. They twinkled, showing a pony how much wisdom Fluttershy holds in her mane from all the experiences she had.
Suddenly, Fluttershy started coughing. Scared, Discord pulled away from the cuddle, giving her a worried glance.
"My dear, are you alright?" asked Discord, clearly worried. Fluttershy coughed a few more times, then nodded.
"Just need... A bit of water," said Fluttershy in a raspy voice. She rose from the bed, and this time Discord didn't stop her from leaving. Fluttershy walked out of the room, and into the kitchen, where she filled a glass with water. Drinking it, she heard a crash. Behind her was Angel's grandson, Spirit. He was white, except for a small brown circle over his eye.
Spirit squeaked, complaining how hungry he was, much like how Angel had when he was alive. Fluttershy sniffed, remembering Angel. He died peacefully in his sleep, but it still hurt. Angel, though rude sometimes, was there for Fluttershy when she felt down.
"Spirit, just a moment," said Fluttershy. She set down the glass after drinking it down, her throat feeling much better. She opened a cabinet which contained animal food.
She fed them all, and finally was finished. Fluttershy's legs felt surprisingly weak. Fluttershy slowly made her way to the couch in her living room. But, she didn't make it. She collapsed on the ground.
"D-Discord..." She cried out weakly. A flash of light appeared in front of her, along with a muffled voice, before all went black.
Discord was afraid, no doubt about it. An hour ago, his wife collapsed on the ground, and blacked out. Discord paced mindlessly in the Ponyville Hospital waiting room, waiting for news on Fluttershy. They were currently testing her. Most of her friends were waiting with him, quietly crying, or just sitting.
One wasn't there, who was Rainbow. She had been dead for about the last twenty years. When she was forty three, she continued to fly with the Wonderbolts, even with the fact her health was in danger since pegasi aren't meant to fly in harsh conditions after age thirty five.
Rainbow's heart failed when she was flying to stop a tornado, and was flung into a tree, breaking her spine, and dying shortly after. Discord was sad for her death, even if they didn't see eye to eye sometimes.
"Mr. Draconequus?" called a nurse. Discord's ears perked up. He walked towards her.
"How... How is Fluttershy?" asked Discord. The nurse's expression was solemn.
"I'm sorry to tell you, but Fluttershy won't make it through the night," said the nurse. Discord felt dizzy. Tears stung the corners of his eyes. He looked back to his and Fluttershy's friends. They heard. Rarity broke down crying. Twilight stood, shocked. Pinkie's mane deflated, and Applejack tried to comfort her.
"N-No..." said Discord.
"And Mrs. Fluttershy requests to speak with you," said the nurse. Discord wasted no time, but decided not to teleport, as the bright light may not have a nice effect with Fluttershy. The nurse led him to a door. Pushing it open, Discord walked in.
"F-Fluttershy?" Discord walked up to the bed. Fluttershy seemed to look older, and much more frail. An unicorn doctor stood by the bed, levitating a clipboard. Fluttershy smiled weakly at Discord.
"Hello, Discord," she said. She tried to sit up, but Discord rushed to the bed, gently laying her back down.
"Don't use up all your energy," said Discord. Tears threatened to spill, but Discord didn't let them. "I-I can take this pain away, a-and we can be together forever." Fluttershy shook her head, still smiling.
"Discord, I have to say no," said Fluttershy. "Ponies come and go, and I'm not an exception."
"You could be," mumbled Discord.
"But if I were to be immortal, it wouldn't be fair to others," said Fluttershy. "Especially to those who lost their loved ones." Discord sighed.
"Very well." Fluttershy looked satisfied.
"Discord, remember, I will always love you," she said.
"I-I will always love you too, my dear," said Discord, cracking a small smile for her sake. Fluttershy closed her eyes, looking happy. She took in a deep breath, slowly letting it out. She didn't move again. "F-Fluttershy?"
"She's gone, I'm afraid," said the doctor. "We wish we could have prevented this." Discord held Fluttershy, sobbing into her fur, which was still warm. But that warmth was slowly fading away.
"W-What happened?" asked Discord, sniffing.
"She had a stroke. It was bound to happen, because of her old age and the fact that she is an animal caretaker," the doctor explained. Discord looked down upon Fluttershy's face, filled with sadness.
