A Love That Lasts Forever
Chapter 3
Previous ChapterNext ChapterA couple of days later...
The familiar ringing of the alarm that woke Fluttershy up filled Discord's ears. It was 6 am, and it was time for her to feed the animals. Discord instinctively reached out his paw to stop Fluttershy from getting up.
"Could you please-" Discord's eyes snapped open as he was met with empty air. Discord sighed, the familiar sadness filling him. He groaned, rolling to the other side of the bed and took in the stale scent of roses. Discord's eyes blankly stared at the picture he had moved to the table beside the bed of the wedding day of Discord and Fluttershy. It was a great day.
Discord remembered the moment of being completely awestruck when Fluttershy came down the aisle, her eyes only on him, as was his on her. He remembered the kiss that made their marriage official, and then their first dance, when the picture was taken. Fluttershy felt so right in his arms as he had twirled her around.
Dishrag, you alright? asked Spirit with the trademark nickname Angel gave him all those years ago. Discord smiled as he remembered how Fluttershy used to scold Angel for that.
"Yeah, yeah, just got caught up for a moment," said Discord, waving his paw.
Well then, hurry up! I'm hungry. Spirit turned around, hopping to who knows where. Discord groaned, rolling his eyes. Of course Spirit is rude like Angel. Discord rose from the bed, and stretched. He snapped his talons, appearing in the living room.
"Howdy, Discord!" said a voice, which wasn't super happy. Discord screeched, immediately summoning a pie to throw in the intruder's face. "Woah, it's just me, Applejack!" Discord scowled.
"Why did you just barge in here?" asked Discord.
"Sorry, Ah'm just used to be allowed in," said Applejack, looking to the ground. Discord rolled his eyes.
"Well, what are you even here for?" Discord looked away.
"They're releasing Fluttershy's body from the hospital," said Applejack. "And Pinkie's planned Fluttershy's funeral. It's in a few hours."
"Not interested," said Discord, his back to Applejack.
"Look, just a couple of days ago you were able to talk with us," said Applejack, narrowing her eyes.
"Yeah, but I don't want to see my dead wife's body!" Discord snapped, whipping around, his pupils glowing a bright red. "You think I want to relive the pain of her loss?"
"Ya need to stop being so Celestia damned stupid, Discord! Stayin' cooped up in this here cottage won't do you any good. Ah know what it's like to lose someone, if ya remember Granny Smith, and it helps to say goodbye properly at a funeral."
Discord was silent. A few moments passed, before Discord sighed. "Fine, I'll go..."
"Ah'll see ya in a few hours... It's at 2 pm, alrigh'?"
"Alright," Discord looked at the ground. Applejack walked to the door, quietly letting herself out.
Discord fed the animals with the snap of his talons, and then decided to get ready. He got an invitation to the funeral, which would be held on Sweet Apple Acres. Discord was to be a speaker. Discord normally was confident about these sort of things, but this time he wasn't so sure. He didn't know if he was ready for this.
Discord snapped on a pure black suit, with a grey undershirt. He adjusted his even darker grey tie, and sighed. Now he was going to say goodbye for sure to Fluttershy.
Soon enough, it was 1:50 pm, the time Discord decided to head out to Sweet Apple Acres. Sure, he could teleport, but he wanted to be a bit early to prepare for his little speech. He was going to have to wing it. With the snap of his talons, he was at the gazebo. Rarity, Twilight, Applejack, and Pinkie were the only ones so far.
"Who's coming?" asked Discord, walking up to Pinkie. Pinkie's mane had gone flat, her fur a shade darker.
"Oh, everyone here, and then the CMC, and her only living relative, Zephyr Breeze," said Pinkie. She sighed. "Fluttershy would've only wanted the ponies closest to her." Soon enough, a teal pegasus stallion with a blonde arrived, as did the CMC.
The CMC established an Equestria-wide program to help ponies figure out their special talent. They were fully grown. Discord even admired their work. Apparently, the teal stallion was successful because of Fluttershy, and he was now a manager of a hair salon.
Twilight slowly walked to the front, and Discord took his seat in the rows of chairs. He took his time to look around. Lilies, in the colors pastel pink, buttercream yellow, and white, were placed in vases around. At the front was a wooden casket, closed, and Discord's heart gave a pang.
"Hello, ladies and gentlecolts," said Twilight, clearing her throat. "We're here for the passing of Fluttershy Draconequus. She was very kind, and was always there for everypony when they were in need of comfort. Discord, would you like to come up here?" Discord looked down at the ground, before rising and going to the front.
"Hello, everyone," said Discord. He looked away for a moment. "Fluttershy was my wife, as all of you knew. She was my first friend, and loved me. That's a lot considering what a pain I am." He chuckled to himself. "Fluttershy was one heck of a mare. She saved us all, multiple times, from others, issues, and even ourselves. Fluttershy would drop everything she needed to do just to help one of us. She was my wife, and was always there to listen to me." Discord let a tear fall down his cheek. The ponies started crying. Discord took it as his cue to sit down.
"Now, you can say your goodbyes," said Twilight, sniffing. The ponies were slow to go up, and Discord was the last. Discord watched as his friends cried, smiling down at the now open casket. Discord couldn't see her from where he sat, and he could barely manage to just look in its direction.
"Discord?" called Twilight. She looked in his direction, her eyes bloodshot. "It's your turn." Discord sighed, and stood up. He slowly walked up to the casket, and looked inside.
His heart broke.
Fluttershy wore an elegant soft pink dress. Her white mane was groomed to perfection, and her eyes were closed, a peaceful smile on her lips. She looked as if she were sleeping. If only reality were that. Fluttershy's hooves were placed over a bouquet of flowers of many colors, giving a chaos vibe, making Discord smile slightly.
"My dear, you were the best thing that has happened to me in a thousand years," said Discord. "You were so kind, so beautiful. You... You... I CAN'T!" Discord dropped to his knees. He started sobbing. "I CAN'T GO ON WITHOUT YOU, FLUTTERSHY!" Applejack and Twilight rushed to Discord's side.
"Ah know it hurts, we all know," said Applejack.
"Don't worry, Discord, we're here for you," Twilight soothed, giving Discord a hug with her wing. Discord sobbed.
