Chapter 1:Broken Bond
“I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU, SPIKE!” an angry female voice shouted. A small purple dragon with green spikes on his back was gritting his teeth and shooting a glare at a purple alicorn with a matching mane and tail color. The alicorn was shooting a glare of her own at the dragon. Her wings were flared a little and by the looks of it; she looked as if she was holding herself back from doing something she would probably never forgive herself for.
“TWILIGHT!” the dragon known as Spike roared as he clenched his claws into fists, his anger slowly rising inside of him. “I told you already: I did not mean to.”
“YOU BURNT OUR FRIENDSHIP JOURNAL!” the alicorn known as Twilight interrupted before using her magic to levitate a badly burnt book in front of the dragon. “This journal used to belong to Princesses Celestia and Luna! It also held the times when we helped others discover who they really were!” She moved the journal away and got into Spike's face. “This journal helped us discover the keys to unlock our rainbow power! Why would you destroy something this important!? Huh? Answer me!” She shouted at the dragon.
Spike glared at Twilight once again as she shot him an angry look. He then growled and looked the alicorn right in the eyes. “Twilight,” he growled out, starting to defend himself again, “I already told you. I did not mean to sneeze when I was dusting that journal.” Twilight only grit her teeth in anger and possible annoyance. “It was an accident!” he growled.
“Well, your accident just destroyed something that can never be replaced!” Twilight almost screamed before using her magic to throw the burnt journal at Spike. “Honestly, I don't know how many times I have to--” She was interrupted when the journal she had thrown at him was thrown back at her, hitting her right in her face, which stunned her for a few seconds at first. But then her anger returned twice as worse as before.
“You don't throw things at me!” Spike growled with a little bit of his fire spewing out of his mouth.
“You ungrateful little runt!” Twilight shouted as she started to charge magic in her horn. “After all I have done for you--” she began before being interrupted again.
“You mean after all I have done for you!” Spike shouted back. “You ungrateful mule!” he finished.
That was it. That was the final piece of straw that broke the camel’s back. With a scream, she shot a beam of magic at Spike. The attack would have hit him if he had not dodged to the left, causing the magical beam to hit a bookcase on the wall behind him, sending books flying in all directions. Growling loudly, Spike inhaled deeply and shot a torrent of flames at Twilight. Thankfully, Twilight had managed to put up a magical shield, shielding herself from the deadly flames, but not from the harsh heat. The heat from the flames was actually making her sweat and it was a little hard for her to breathe. When the flames died down, she put down her shield, but all she heard was a loud growl before Spike managed to jump onto her back, scratching her with his lethal claws while also pulling on one of her ears.
“Get off of me, lizard!” Twilight screamed as she kicked and bucked almost like a mad horse, trying her best to get the little dragon off her back.
“Give it up! You Celestia wannabe!” Spike shouted back, causing Twilight to growl in anger and stand on her hind legs, only to let gravity take its course and pull her back down, causing her to fall onto her back and onto Spike, who coughed loudly from having the wind knocked out of him.
Twilight quickly got up on her hooves, turned around, lifted her hind legs and delivered a hard kick into Spike's face, sending him flying through a set of double doors and into the hallway, where he slid into another wall. Slowly, Spike got back to his feet just as Twilight burst through the door. He balled his fists and readied himself to continue the fight. He dodged to the right when another beam of magic was shot towards him. But before he could try and counterattack, he felt Twilight's magic grab hold of his body and lift him up, only to slam him hard into the wall and the floor before throwing him down the hall.
A sickening crack was heard when Spike made contact with the ground. He released a cry of pain as he held his left arm, feeling nothing but large amount of shooting pain coming from it. He growled loudly as he got to his feet; he turned around and shot three balls of fire at Twilight, who managed to easily deflect them with her magic. But that gave Spike enough time to run up and slash her cheek, causing some of her blood to fly through the air and onto the floor. That cheap shot earned Spike a hard hoof to the gut, which knocked more wind out of him as he fell to the floor, holding his stomach as he groaned loudly in pain.
“Give up?” Twilight asked in a cold voice.
“Buck you!” Spike snarled before he shot straight up and hit the underside of Twilight's head with the top of his head, making her groan loudly before he tackled her to the ground, giving him a dangerous advantage over her. He used his good arm to slash and claw her, while he repeatedly headbutted her. But before he could do any more damage, she shot him in the chest with a magical beam, slamming him through another pair of double doors, which led to the room where the cutie map was.
Twilight burst through the doors and flew above Spike, who was lying on his back on the map. She started to charge up another spell but Spike was one step ahead of her. He inhaled deeply and launched a massive fireball towards her. She had managed to dodge but the fireball was heading right for the roots of her old home. Both of them watched in horror as the fireball made contact with the old roots, burning all of them and the pictures in a matter of seconds.
Spike watched in horror as Twilight slowly floated down towards the ground. She had her back turned towards him, but he could clearly see that she was possibly charging another magical attack.
“Twilight...I'm--”
“DIE, YOU BUCKING DRAGON!” Twilight screamed before she used her magic to teleport herself on top of him, where she repeatedly punched him in his face.
After the fifth punch Twilight used her magic to throw Spike off the map and onto the floor. She breathed heavily as she stared at the dragon; her eyes were filled with nothing but pure hatred. She heard him release a barely audible groan. She could see tears falling from his eyes while he mumbled something under his breath.
“What did you say?!” Twilight asked in a cold voice.
“I hate you, Twilight Sparkle,” Spike answered as he looked up at with eyes of hatred and sadness. “I wish you never hatched me,” he finished.
She stomped her hoof hard onto the floor, causing the floor to crack a little under her hoof. “Sometimes I wish the same thing! You...you...useless! Unwanted! Orphan!” she shouted causing Spike’s eyes to go wide with pain.
Time seemed to slow for Spike as he sat on the cold, hard floor. He watched as Twilight put out the fire and walked out of the room, slamming the door shut, leaving him alone in the room. In his mind he heard the word “orphan” echoing. Tears fell from his eyes like endless rivers, for she had hit him with the hardest and coldest truth. She had reminded him that he had no mother or father. He then brought both of his claws into the air and slammed them down hard, screaming loudly as he felt a large amount of emotional pain course through his body.
Off in another part of the castle, Twilight was also screaming. She stomped her hooves and bucked like somepony who had gone crazy, trying her best to get all of the rage out of her system. Once she was done unleashing the beast, she slowly climbed into her bed and laid herself down. She tossed and turned for a few minutes before finally finding a comfortable place on her bed.
“Spike,” she whispered as she closed her eyes, “sometimes I really wished I never hatched you.” She finished before finally falling to sleep. She thrashed and groaned a little in her sleep. She could see Spike in her dream. He was lying on his bed crying his eyes out; his tail was pulled up in between his legs and arms. His eyes were red and swollen from all the crying. He was also whispering something. Something she could not make out.
A few hours later, the morning sun had started to slowly rise into the sky. The light slowly made its way into Twilight's bedroom. With a small groan, Twilight slowly got up and out of bed. She stretched, causing a few loud cracking sounds to come from her body as she loosened up. She then walked out of her room and started making her way to the kitchen. As she walked down the hallway, she could smell the faint scent of pancakes, which caused her stomach to growl.
“Spike must have gotten up.” She released a small gasp as she remembered her actions from the previous night. A few tears formed in her eyes and slowly rolled down her cheeks. “I can't believe what I said,” she began before she shook her head a little. “I have to apologize to him. I have to make this right,” she finished before she reached the door to the kitchen, using her magic to slowly open the door.
There he was, standing on a small stool in front of the stove. It looked like he was cooking some pancakes. Slowly, she walked into the kitchen and towards him, taking in a small, deep breath before slowly exhaling, calming herself down enough to speak.
“Spike, I--”
She was cut off by him slamming the spatula he was using down onto the counter.
“Don't say a word, Twilight!” Spike growled out as he turned around and faced her, allowing her to see the look of anger he was giving her. “You said enough last night!” he finished with anger dripping from his voice.
Twilight flinched a little as she looked at the angered dragon. But she quickly calmed herself down again, looked at him with very gentle eyes, and calmly spoke.
“Spike,” she began in a soft voice hoping that she was calming him down, “I know what I said hurt you, badly. But I want to apologize.”
“You think I want an apology?” he growled out, his claws balled into fists, jumping down from the stool and walking towards her. “You hurt me in so many ways last night!” he continued, causing her to slowly back away as he continued to walk towards her. “You hurt me physically! But it wasn't as bad as the way you hurt me emotionally!” he practically roared as he backed her up against a wall. “You called me useless! You called me unwanted! You...you...called me a....a...”
He stopped, fell to his knees, brought his claws to his eyes, and started to cry.
When Twilight saw this, something inside of her broke, and she quickly got to his side. She went to put one of her hooves around him, but all he did was swat it away. He then looked up at her with a glare full of sadness and rage.
“DON'T TOUCH ME!” he yelled before he got to his feet and bolted out of the kitchen. As he ran, he almost ran right into Starlight Glimmer, who watched in confusion as he exited the castle; slamming the door behind him.
“What was that all about?” Starlight asked before she walked into the kitchen, allowing her to see her mentor standing still in the kitchen. “Hey, Twilight,” she greeted as she walked up to her, “Do you know what's wrong wi--”
“I did something really bad, Starlight,” Twilight interrupted before a single tear fell to the floor. “I did something really, really, bad.” She collapsed to the floor and started to cry while Starlight quickly got to her side and tried to calm her down.
Spike ran as fast as he could through the streets of Ponyville. He ran past multiple ponies who gave him worried looks as he ran by. Tears flowed from his eyes almost like rivers, his breathing and his heartbeat was quick and rapid. It wasn't long until he reached the edge of the nearby Ponyville Lake. He sat at the water’s edge, looked down at his reflection, balled his fists, and then let out a really loud scream.
Everypony in the town flinched in pain as they covered their ears. The scream was loud and high-pitched. Windows shattered, ponies fell to the ground in pain, and some had blood dripping out of their ears. The scream was so loud it even rattled the windows all the way in Canterlot.
Near one of the windows, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna stood. Both of them watched as the window lightly rattled. Both of them looked at one another with faces of pure worry. They walked away from the window and out onto one of the many balconies of the castle. From there they spread their wings and flew towards Ponyville.
After he had finished screaming, Spike fell to his knees once again, crying hard as he covered his face with his claws. He sobbed loudly, coughed a little, moved his claws away from his face, and looked down at his reflection. He gasped at what he saw in the water below.
In the reflective surface, it showed his reflection, but behind him was his friend, Rainbow Dash. He turned around and saw her sitting right behind him. She had a worried look on her face and both of her ears had a small amount of blood dripping from them.
“Rainbow?” he asked, but he was quickly cut off by her reaching forward and pulling him into a caring hug.
Although her eyes were closed, she could feel him crying against her chest. She could feel his arms wrap around her while she gently nuzzled him, trying her best to give him as much love and affection he needed.
“Thank you,” Spike whispered, feeling her hold on him tighten a little.

Editor: Menace of the mines
Rainbow sighed as she gently held the sleeping dragon in her arms. Shortly after finding Spike at the lake; Rainbow had asked if he wanted to come back home with her. The answer she got was a slow nod from him. That entire time as they flew through the sky neither one of them said a single word. When they finally reached her home she had sat the hurt drake on the couch in her living room; before she went to go wash the blood from her ears. It didn't take her long to wash up. But just as soon as she got back to the couch; she saw Spike curled up into a small ball. Crying softly as he did his best to hide the tears that feel from his eyes.
“Damn you, Twilight!” Silently cursed Rainbow as nuzzled the poor drake, “How could you do this to him!” She finished in a quiet tone.
Both of them were lying on her couch; a little while ago he not only managed to cry himself to sleep. But he also vented some of his pent up emotions. He told her how he felt; how lucky each of them were.....how they have what he longs to have.......a family. She had a single tear fall from her eye as she remembered everything he had told her.
(A few minutes after arrival.)
“Spike?” Called Rainbow as she placed a gentle hoof on his shoulder. She felt him flinch when she touched his shoulder; it caused her to feel a small amount of pain in her heart, “Spike, it's okay.” She tried her best to sound comforting.
She had been trying her best to comfort the young drake for some time now. But he would not say a single word to her. With a heavy sigh she pulled him closer to her body; letting him lay his head on her lap. While she gently rubbed his back. Seeing her friend like this wanted to make her cry. While at the same time; she wanted to go beat the living tartarus out of Twilight. She then felt Spike shift a little. When she looked down she saw he had curled back up into a ball. Rainbow wanted to pull him back towards her; but then her stomach growled loudly. With a unsure look she got off the couch while looking back at her friend.
“I'll be back okay,” She said to him before walking off towards the kitchen to grab a bite to eat. She had fixed herself and Spike a daisy sandwich; once she was back in her living room. She saw that he was still in the same position on her couch. She shook her head as she sat their sandwiches down on the table in front of them. Before sitting down back on the couch with him, “Spike-.” She tried to speak but was interrupted by him muttering something under his breath.
“What?” She asked.
“All of you are lucky Rainbow.” He repeated with nothing but sadness in his voice.
She was confused by what he said, “Spike, what do you mean?” She asked.
Spike sat up and faced her, “You and the other girls; actually got to know your parents,” He answered as a small sob escaped from him, “Mine never wanted me.” He finished.
Rainbow had almost gasped loudly when she saw how red and puffy his eyes were. He had tears stains all over his face; and he also looked like he was shaking a little. Something inside of her gave and she quickly picked him up and hugged him close to her chest. She could feel him slowly wrap his claws around her; while a fresh set of tears started to fall from his eyes.
“Spike,” She began trying her best to keep herself from crying, “I'm sure you're parent's.”
She felt his head move and when she looked down; she saw him glaring at her, “They never wanted me!” He growled as his claws balled into fists, “If they wanted me; they would've at least waited for me to hatch! They probably could have left some proof of their existence!” His teeth then gritted, “But, no! They gave me up before I was even born! Probably because they knew; they somehow knew I was going to be a useless, weak, and wingless! They knew I was going to be nothing but a nopony!” He finished before he broke down in tears again. Crying heavily into Rainbow's chest; as she held him tightly. With tears of her own falling from her eyes.
(The Present.)
She was unsure how to handle situations like this. Never had she seen one of her friends so depressed. So hurt, so broken. All she could do was just hold him closer to her. Offering what little comfort she could with her embrace. Eventually though she did grow tired of the slight irritation; caused by the dried tears on her fur. As gently as she could she slowly got up from the couch and made her way to the bathroom.
A few minutes later Rainbow walked out of the bathroom. She had a bathrobe on and a towel wrapped around her head; there was some steam coming out of the bathroom. There was even some steam coming off of her body. She released a small sigh of comfort; before walking back towards the couch. She gasped out of fear when she saw that Spike was gone. She quickly looked around the room; tempted to call out for him. Just so that she would know that he was safe. Her gaze soon feel on her front door; her fear increased as she saw that the door was opened a little.
“Spike,” She called out in a voice just above a whisper as she quickly walked towards the door. Once she was close enough; she fully opened the door, and out just a few feet away from the door was Spike. He was standing out close to the edge of the cloud her home sat on. He was staring down at the ground below, “Spike.” She called out again; hoping that he would turn around and face her.
“I can make all of this right,” He spoke in a voice that was void of life. He felt a gentle breeze move past his body; which-in his mind- was his interpretation of nature telling him to jump. To end his pitiful existence. To free his friends of his uselessness. To rid the world of the only unwanted mistake. To finally get rid of himself, “I can make it all right.” He repeated.
“Spike,” Rainbow called out in a voice full of concern; ready to fly towards him and grab him. She couldn't believe what she had just heard. He was actually think about killing himself. It shook her to the core; it made her eyes fill with tears once more. She had to keep it from happening; she had to help him. She had to help her friend, “Please.” She begged with a breaking voice.
He turned around and looked at her with a broken stare. He then turned back around and looked back down; only to quickly looked back towards her, “Rainbow,” He said as a single tear rolled down his voice, “I'm sorry.” He finished in a voice void of emotion as he feel backwards off the cloud.
It started as a rattle then it turned into a rush of air; she felt it form into the sound of her voice, as it escaped her maw in a single loud scream, “NO!” in a move faster than she ever made; she galloped towards the edge and jumped. Her hooves were outstretched; tears flowed from her eyes like rivers, her wings flapped wildly as she tried to close the distance between her and him.
All Spike did was watch as she tried to reach him. He had tears of his own escaping from his eyes and flying towards her; why was she trying to save him? He was an unwanted being that had no place in this world. He was a waste of space. A parasite that everypony wished had never existed. Something he didn't want; something he no longer wanted to be. In a single breath he launched a small fireball at her.
Rainbow yelled out in surprise as she dodged fireball after fireball. But it did little to discourage her from saving him. She was the element, no, the embodiment of the element of loyalty. She would gladly give her life for any of her friends; and Spike was no exception. For as the years went on; she had developed close relationships with everyone in their group. And to see one of her friends; trying to kill themselves. It hurt her far worse than when she had broken her wing.
“Almost there,” She said to herself as she kept her hooves reached out in front of her. He had stopped shooting fireballs at her; possibly he was at his shot limit, or he simply had given up. She could see him waving goodbye at her; while he mouthed the words “Goodbye Rainbow”, “Almost there,” She repeated as she felt her hope rising inside of her, “Almost there!” She finished only to see him land hard onto the solid ground. Time stopped for her; one second her friend was there and then the next he was gone. Now on the ground was nothing more the a bloody pulp; of flesh, blood, and bone.
“SPIKE!” She screamed.
Rainbow gasped loudly as she shook her head; just moment ago her imagination had pulled her from reality. Making her see a horrible version of the near future. A future she was not going to allow to happen. Before he could turn and look towards her; she had galloped up to him. Wrapped him an a very loving and caring hug; held him up against her chest, and cried.
“Rainbow,” He spoke in a begging voice as he tried to get out of her hold; but his body was too weak to break her firm hold on him, “Please, let me go.” He finished.
“No,” she replied in a voice that was on the verge of breaking, “If you kill yourself; I'll kill myself.” She finished.
The two sat on the outside of her home; just holding each other once again. This time it was on a new level of emotion. One that is a mixture of love and caring; along with sadness and despair. Eventually they did go back into the home; but this time Rainbow had dragged him to her room. There both of them had layed down on her bed and fell asleep. Both of them completely exhausted from everything.
