The Beginning of the Suffering

I felt tired in the orphanage, tired and cold so cold. All day was the same routine, school had just finished for the day but I would rather be there than this cold place. I always felt so cold and alone I don't want to be in this place anymore I hate it here.There were other foals and fillies, but I never really talked to them unless I had to.

On my way home I took a detour through a nearby forest and then headed home, slowly It became dark I always enjoyed the nighttime I love looking at the stars in the night sky and the cool breeze that blew through my mane. After a while of walking through the dark forest I finally found myself in front of the orphanage, opening the door with my horn seeing my black aura of magic with white sparkles shining brightly within it. "My magic reminds me of the stars." I found myself talking out loud

I opened the door to see a large boxed room with a picture of Celestia with the sun in the background. "Pfft. Luna is a much betterer princess."

I stopped thinking of my mistake in English but went on. I opened the door to my room to see Lemon drop waiting for me. "You are up past curfew again. Shadow I know you love the night but you need to be here before it is past." Her light yellow coat was easy to see in the dark along with her bright yellow hair that could outshine the sun.

"I'm sorry, Mrs. Drop." She didn't bother with giving me a lecture we had every night. I got the message and went on to bed.

I woke up feeling even more tired than usual, the first thing I do is get up and look out the window but instead of finding the bright sun I see Luna's beautiful moon and stars in the night sky. A bright stary whisp began to surround me as the sounds of a beautiful voice moves into my ear.

"Come little children I'll take thee away from this land of horrid terrors and sadness." The voice called.

I was no longer paying attention as I realized I was flying in the air I was going to scream until I finally saw what was in front of me. It was Luna and many other children "Come, little children, the time's come to leave this place of nightmares, and take you to my place of shadows." She sings in the sweet melody.

She sang with a beautiful voice as she dropped down into the middle of a town. We landed some of us fell to our sides others laughed at them, I walked to the goddess and stood in front of her as if I were a soldier ready to take orders, she stared at the children and began to speak"Hear your princess children." She says the melody stopping. Gaining everypony's attention. She smiled then began to speak once more. "You will be living here instead of your street home's or orphanages."

I heard cheers from all the little fillies but I didn't cheer I was too busy listening. "You will be living in dorms with roommates chosen by me.” She adds.

This made me curious about who I was getting.

I was paired with three other young ponies my age: a young dark purple filly unicorn with glasses had rather straight hair had fusia colored hair with orange streaks in her mane, her eyes were dark blue and looked average size. The second one was alpine green, female pegasus, with yellow eyes black mane with a long black and white tail. Finally was a foal earth pony, his coat was red and purple eyes with white spiky hair and he has fading brown socks on all of his hooves he had a small white tail, his name is Red Hoof.

We were going to spend a lot of time together so might as well try to know them as soon as possible. I walked up to them after Luna had left us to get to know each other. "Hello." I held out my hoof with a smile, I didn't really want to do this but I don't know how long I'm going to be here so it might go by quicker.

The bright purple pony with glasses came up to me and brought her hoof up "Hello, my name is Ema Fire. What is your name?" She says cheerfully.

I accepted her hoof-shake "My name is Shadow Star, Hello Ema." I respond. I shook her hoof and turned to the others.

The green pony then walked up to me and held up her hoof "What's up, Shadow? My name is Green skies, but you can call me Sky, brohoof?" She says suspending her hoof in the air. I tried to attempt what I guessed what a brohoof was, which was actually just basically punching each other's hooves really lightly.

The one foal in our group wasn't as happy as the others "The names Red Hooves." He says his voice rather unpleasant.

Together we walked to the dorm we were staying at. I looked at Green Skies and Ema fire with a worried expression and they returned my look to me as if they were a mirror. When we got in the dorm Red Hoof was already unpacking a small bag that he had, he set it on the dresser. It was two people, I was going to ask who they were but I was interrupted by Princess Luna coming in. We bowed to her.

"Arise my subjects." She had commanded. We followed her order "Your name's are Shadow Star, Red Hoof, Ema Fire and Green Skies." She pointed at each of us as she said out names. "You will get to know each other as family, you will learn to trust them over the years and tell them anything." She requested. We looked at each other exchanging looks. "I wish you all a happy time here." She said.

We all smiled and waved at Luna. Once she left they all began to unpack their own things. Green Skies brought out a black bandana and placed it around her neck and Ema took out a black cloak. A stallion came in, he was tall and was dark blue with brown hair that was smooth as if he just combed it. "I am in charge of you children so you're going to get to know me very well. My name is Storm Tail and I'm going to be taking care of you” He informed us.

He looked very nice, he looked down at me and smiled. "Alright go to sleep little children, you have been through a lot." He told everyone. We cheered including me this time. I laid in bed and went quickly to sleep.

I had a nice awakening very calm. I got up and noticed that Red hoof had a purple necklace on him. He saw me and walked up to me then pushed me to the floor "What was that for?!" I cried.

He turned around and walked away. Ema walked up to me and pulled me up "You okay?" She asked. I rose to my hooves.

"Yeah I'm okay but what's his problem." I asked curiously.

She shrugged her shoulders. We heard the sound of a horn blow outside and followed it. A stallion was standing near a flagpole as flag hung on it, on it was a moon on its side facing up with wings coming from the sides with a staff behind it in the middle atop the staff was a star.

The stallion next to the pole held his hoof up to point us to the flag "This is now the flag you follow, you do not follow the sun anymore you follow the night and all its beauties." He said as he pulled his hoof down. "Any objections?" H e asked as he looked around for a hoof in the air but there were none. He smiled "Okay good now we chose all of you because you worship Luna even before you came here so that part was the easy part." He said. He looked very serious as he said his next words "The ponies you are rooming with are now your brothers and sisters for life, I'm sure you know this already though. You will be going to class now." As he said that a bell rung. walking off to class I see my "family" and walk over to them.
