Years into the past, Equestria's technology was more advanced. With Luna on the moon, and Celestia the sole ruler, the Kingdom of Gryphony declares war in an effort to expand their own land. The Equestrian Army is mobilized and a recent invention, the machine gun, creates a new branch, the Royal Equestrian Air Force. Pegasi take to the sky with machine guns strapped on them or pulling a chariot with a gunner and bombs. The resulting slaughter shows why such technology was banned and forgotten about. As Equestria encrochaes farther into gryphon territory, the more ferocious resistance gets. The life expectancy for a flier is only one month. Those that survie become some of the best.

In memory of the gallant knights of the air, the rats in the mud, the brave men in tin cans, the ghosts of the high seas, and the specters in the desert, who all fought in the "war to end all wars."
