True Fear

He opened his eyes slowly. Immediately he realized that he was surrounded by hundreds of cloaked ponies. Fifty of them dead around him.

One of these cloaked ponies approached him. The recently awakened unicorn was quick to light his horn and prepare several battle spells. "Who the hell are you and what the hell is going on?" he barked at the cloaked figure standing in front of him.

"I am Blackshadow," the unicorn colt started, "I am the leader of the Cult of Fear."

"Cult of Fear? But I am-" the newly awakened unicorn started.

"Yes I am well aware that you are Fear. In fact, everypony in this room worships you," Blackshadow said.

"Worship me?" Fear's eyes narrowed, "How long has it been since my battle with those annoying alicorns?"

"It has been several thousand years since you were killed by the Princesses. Our cult has spent all that time attempting to find away to bring you back," he said. He looked around at the fifty dead ponies, all of them gathered in a perfect circle around Fear. "Of course, Sacrifices had to be made.

"Thousands of years? No matter. I'm back now and that's all that matters," he replied coldly. "Do the princesses still control the Elements of Harmony?" Fear could barely hide his fear at the mere mention of the items that killed him.

"No they don't,"

"Good, then that means-"

"The Elements have found new hosts. These new hosts are able to wield the Elements much more efficiently then the princesses ever could," Blackshadow commented. He noted how uncomfortable Fear looked during this conversation. Of course, if he had been killed only to be revived only to be revived thousands of years later then he probably would have felt the same.

"They are more powerful with the Elements than the princesses?" Fear started. "Goddammit! I return only for my enemies to be stronger than before! How the hell am I supposed to spread fear around Equestria with the Elements of Harmony still around?!" he ranted.

Another cloaked pony emerged from the crowd. A pegasus mare. "Actually we may have found a way to destroy the Elements forever.

Fear turned to Blackshadow, "Is this true?" He was barely able to contain his excitement.

"Yes. But to perform it you must lend me some of your magic. Only the magic that you possess can destroy the Elements and I already know the spell and where the Element's bearers reside.

"Very well," Fear said. His horn began to glow again as he gave some of his magic to this Blackshadow. He didn't fully trust this cult, but if they try anything he could easily kill each one of them.

In the library of Ponyville, Twilight Sparkle was hard at work studying. She was attempting to learn a new spell that could slow down time. So far every attempt failed.

"Cmon you can do it, Twilight!" her dragon assistant shouted.

"It might be easier to focus if the library was a bit quieter," she said sarcastically.

"Heh heh, sorry," Spike replied.

"I think I've finally got-" Twilight began to say.

Knock Knock.

"And it's gone," she said with a sigh.

"I got it," Spike said to the purple unicorn before going to the door. He opened it. Before him stood a unicorn. Obviously a colt. He had a jet black mane, a maroon coat, and lavender eyes. "Can I help you?" Spike asked the mysterious colt.

"I must speak with Twilight Sparkle immediately," he told the small dragon.

"Twilight! It's for you!"

The purple unicorn appeared at the door quickly. "Yes? May I help you Mr-?"

"Bl....Brightlight. My name is Brightlight," he said.

"Well, Brightlight, what brings you here?" Twilight asked.

A great catastrophe is occurring in Canterlot as we speak. Please gather the other Elements of harmony and bring them here. Then, I will explain the situation," he said calmly.

"What?!" Twilight shrieked with a mixture of fear and confusion. What could have happen to Canterlot she wondered. No matter. She had to gather her friends.

She returned an hour later with her friends.

"What happened in Canterlot?" Rainbow Dash questioned.

"Is everypony...ummm....safe?" Fluttershy asked weakly.

"Yes, what has happened?" Rarity added.

"What about the princesses?" Applejack asked.

"Ooh! Ooh! Did they get sad because there hasn't been a party in a while? Or maybe another meanie pants is here. Or maybe-" Pinkie's guessing was cut off when Twilight shoved her hoof into Pinkie's mouth.

"Girls stop asking him questions so he can explain," Twilight said.

"Are all the windows and doors closed. Wouldn't want the public to hear about this," the colt said to the six mares.

"Yes," Twilight said.

"Good," Brightlight flashed an evil grin.His horn began to glow. All of the mares found themselves unable to move.

"What the hay is goin' on?" asked Applejack.

"Easy. Nothing has happened to Canterlot. Yet," he said evilly.

"What do you mean yet you stupid-"  Rainbow Dash's outburst was cut short when she found herself unable to speak anymore.

"Oh shut up!" Brightlight screamed.

His horn began to glow brighter. The mares soon felt an intense pain surge through their body. Suddenly, there was a bright flash. When everypony could see again they realized something. The Elements of Harmony were now hovering in the air around them.

"That's impossible! The Elements are in Canterlot!" Twilight screamed.

"You can't be that naive can you?" Brightlight asked. "The Elements that Celestia has are nothing but conduits for your power. The true Elements lie in your hearts," he looked at the elements in front of him. "Or did".

"What's going on?" Pinkie said not being able to hide her fear.

"Girls...I'm scared," Fluttershy admitted.

"It's okay darling. We all are," Rarity said trying to comfort her best friend.

"What do ya want with the Elements?" asked Applejack.

"Easy. I want to destroy them," he said coldly. Dark energy began to erupt from his horn swallowing each element. One by one they shattered. "Perfect."

"But how?" Twilight was shocked. She didn't think it was possible to truly destroy the Elements. "Who are you exactly, Brightlight?

"Call me Blackshadow," he said. "My job here is over. I would kill you but without your precious elements you are no threat to my master. In about half an hour you will be able to move again. Farewell, former Elements of Harmony," he said as he left.

All of the mares just stayed quiet. They realized that they were defeated. That they had fallen for Blackshadow's trap.

Blackshadow left Ponyville with no problem. Nopony knew about his confrontation with the Elements. He smirked. It didn't matter now. He had accomplished his goal. He destroyed the Elements of Harmony. All was going according to plan.
