Prologue

It was a bright and sunny day in peaceful Ponyville. The day was lovely and calm, all except for the building near the edge of town. This building was the red colored, wooden schoolhouse for Ponyville, and all the fillies and colts in the schoolhouse were excited. Miss Cherilee was absent, for she was very unwell. Somehow, the foals had heard that she was sick with Shingles, and apparently would not come back to school for a few weeks. On top of that, the students had no idea who was coming as their substitute teacher, for Miss Cheerilee had not had the chance. The foals loved a mystery, and so they amused themselves with it. They chatted with each other, trying to guess who it would be.

"I think it's Princess Twilight," said Diamond Tiara with a toss of her head. Her friend Silver Spoon nodded while fiddling with her braid. That seemed like the most-likely possibility, until Applebloom spoke up.

"No, Ah heard from ma sister that they are all goin' to go see the Crystalin' of Cadence's an' Shining Armor's new baby. It has to be somepony else." That made everypony start coming up with new possibilities on who it was. The minutes dragged slowly by, yet the mysterious substitute still had not come. The students were exhausting their creativity, for it seemed like every time they might know who it would be, somepony else said why it would not be that pony.

"What if it's someone really cranky, like Mister Cranky Doodle Donkey?" Asked Snails. Everypony glared at him for asking such a dumb question, except for Snips, who gave him a smile and a pat on the back to show that Snails had support. Snails flashed an appreciative smile at his best friend. Just when it seemed like nopony would come, the door opened and a pony walked in, and what an interesting pony! In fact, she was not even a pony, not officially, although she did look a bit like one. She was a thestral with purple bat wings, blue slits for eyes, and small fangs. Her cutie mark was a quill scibbling a heart. Her mane was in a high pony tail while her tail hung freely. Her coat was of an indescribable pink. It was like cottan candy, but so much more darker. She walked to the desk, sat down, and smiled at the stunned class. They had no idea a batpony, of all creatures, was going to be teaching them today.

"Good morning everypony, I am Scribble Pen, and I will be teaching you today. Any questions?"

Sweetie Bell raised her hoof before asking "I thought thestrals are awake at night and slept in the daytime? That's what Princess Twilight told me."

Scribble Pen nodded and replied "Correct, but I have found it much more convenient to stay awake at daytime. Now, let's move on. We are not learning about thestrals, although they are interesting. Today we are suppose to do math, but since I do not like it, and I am quite sure nopony else like it, we are going to learn about the most earliest history of Equestria."

Scootaloo rolled her eyes and said "But Miss Scribble, we already know about that! Hearth's Warming Eve."

Scribble laughed and said "No, that was simply when
Equestria was founded. We are going to learn about what it was before that. And you won't know this from any other teacher, or in any history books."

Everypony in the small school practically screamed with excitement. Not only would they get out of math, they would also hear a mysterious story they have never hear about! The foals quickly went to the reading part in the schoolhouse. They grabbed the pillows and blankets before settling comfortably on the floor. They also grabbed some food. The shouting stopped when they saw Scribble reach for her bag. It was very worn and old, but what she pulled out was older still. It was a massive black leather-bound book, with silver lettering and yellowed pages. The cover had the frightening picture of a ying-yang, but not with their rulers. It had a changeling on one side with a flaming heart. On the other it had a wendigoe in the shape of an alicorn, with a frozen heart on it's side. The foals were thoroughly confused. Why would changelings and wendigoes be in Equestria before the ponies? However, the foals simply decided to observe and analyze the rest of the odd book. The edges on the book were frayed, the foals at the front saw the ink was faded a little, and the ponies realized this was a one-of-a-kind book. Scribble grunted as she hefted the book onto Miss Cherilee's desk. The desk creaked and groaned under the weight. It even shook the table legs and top, causing the students to get nervous. They were afraid the table might actually break under the weight of that mysterious book. What did it weigh, a ton!? However, it soon quieted, causing the class to breath out in relief. Scribble open the cover, and coughed as some dust flew into her face, causing the foals to laugh. She simply laughed along with them and smiled as she flipped through a couple of pages, then cleared her throat.

"Of Wendigoes and Changelings, by the Great StarSwirl the Bearded." said Scribble. She drank a glass of water, making sure her voice was clear and would not crack while reading. She then flipped a second page.

"Chapter one: Faust's Genesis." With those words, Scribble caused the class to journey back into the past thousands of years, to a new, strange history of Equestria before the sisters, before Discord, before even ponies were known to be of existence. She brought them to a land that was not called Equestria.

Author's Note

Well, there you go! I really hope you like this story, for it is what I hope will be my masterpiece. Please be sure to review, so that I can continue to make it enjoyable, very good at Grammer and spelling, and overall make a thrilling tale! Who knows, maybe this will be considered head-cannon for how the wendigoes and changelings, the ying-yang of each other, came to be.

CHAOS OUT!
