"Soooo, what's the plot this time?" Twilight rubbed her eyes as she slowly became fully awake. "This time, we're introducing one of our favorite characters!" Rarity held up a minifig of a black hedgehog that slightly looked like Sonic. "Who?" "Only the second most popular character in the whole canon!" Rainbow Dash answered as they set the minfigs in the Lego Team HQ. "Let's begin the story of the Ultimate Lifeform!" Pinkie shouted. A few months after the Perfect Chaos incident Canterlot City was nearly done in its reconstruction. Most of the water had been drained and the buildings were being restored to their original state. Sonic was currently racing around the streets, looking for any trapped civilians. Applejack was lifting some heavy materials for the construction crew to place on the building. The city's newest residents, the Avengers, were also helping with the reconstruction efforts. Iron Man, AKA Tony Stark, generously donated the funds needed to rebuild the city and was currently helping place replacement girders on the very high buildings. "It's coming together quite nicely," Luna Playwell told her sister Celestia and Sunset as she sipped a cup of overpriced coffee ($53 today!). "Indeed it is," Sunset replied. "Though, I don't think we should breathe easy. I mean, Loki and Dr. Eggman are still at large and can potentially cause trouble on their own." "I don't think Loki will be an issue since we have Thor to help protect our city," Celestia said somewhat dreamily. "You just care about his abs," Luna teased, causing her older sister to blush. "I-I do not!" Sunset cleared her throat loudly, causing the two to stop arguing. "So why did you want to see me?" "Ah, that," Celestia let go of Luna's arm, acting professional again. "You see, after the attack of Perfect Chaos, my uncle suggested we build our own line of defense robots to help combat Dr. Eggman and other threats. These robots will commanded by the Lego World's military known as G.U.N." "G.U.N.?" Sunset chuckled at the acronym a little. "The Guardian Unit of Nations," Luna explained. "They're the more legal version of President Business's army, but they were formed after he was defeated." "And why didn't they help us with Midnight Sparkle?" "They did not have the necessary firepower to combat such a menace at the time," Celestia continued. "But hopefully, they can help lead us toward peace." Elsewhere In Lego City's main research lab, numerous scientist minifigs were building the numerous robots ordered by Kjeld Playwell. "With these robots, we can defeat people like Dr. Eggman once and for all," one scientist said to his superior. "Yes," the head scientist nodded. "Our designs are superior to his in every way." However, they were unaware a spy drone was recording their every move... Eggman's base "That's an impossibility," Dr. Eggman stated to his two robot assistants, Orbot and Cubot. "If their robots were better, that would make them smarter than me." "It does look like they made progress, Doctor," the red orb-shaped robot agreed. "If it's true, we'll be in big trouble," his yellow cube-shaped companion added. "Then I'll just hack into their mainframe and I'll have instant access to all of their robot designs," Eggman began to furiously type at his keyboard as he logged into the Lego Team's computer. "Great, we're in!" Numerous blueprints of the G.U.N. robots flashed on the screen. "How did they come up with these designs so quickly?!" He suddenly froze as the photo of a man that vaguely resembled him appeared on the screen. "It can't be!" "Dr. Eggman?" Orbot asked. "Is something wrong?" "Unbelievable..." Eggman slumped back into his chair. "This can only mean... this world is the world that I was born in!" His two assistants widened their eyes in shock. "This is Professor Gerald Robotnik, who was the greatest scientific genius of his time. He's my grandfather." "Does this mean there's a connection between this world and the one we came from?" Orbot questioned. "But how can that be?" Cubot asked. "The two worlds are in parallel universes and share the exact same moment in time and space, each is unaware of the other's existence. But thanks to Chaos Control, we traveled between them! Let's see if there's any data about my grandfather that can clear up this mystery." He tried to open a file that read "Top Secret," but it asked for a password. "Let's try 'Eggman.'" The screen flashed red. "Error?!" He tried again only to be rejected. "'Robotnik?'" Another rejection. "NO WAY!" He covered his face with his hands as he suddenly remembered a young girl that spent most of her time with his grandfather. "Maria!" He grinned as he entered his cousin's name, granting him access to the file. "You did it!" Cubot cheered. In Lego City's branch of the Lego Team HQ, alarms were blaring, as a computer technician tried to disconnect the hacker. "What's going on?!" The head technician demanded. "It's Eggman, sir! He used an unknown password to get into one of our databases! It holds a top secret file that no one has looked at for fifty years!" "Call off his access!" "They detected us!" Eggman shouted to his assistants. "Download proceeding," Orbot and Cubot began to delete the original file from the host computer after copying it to Eggman's. "File deleted from original server!" Eggman sighed in relief. "Hacking sure is hard work... Now let's have a look at that file..." His jaw dropped when he realized what he was reading. "Th-This is my grandfather's diary!" "Based on my original projections, I was able to complete my project, Shadow. I designed its mind to be perfect, pure. I will leave everything to it. If you wish, release and awaken it, to the world. If you wish to fill the world with destruction…" Eggman grinned as a new plan for world conquest formed in his head. "I'll release 'Shadow' for you, grandfather." A few hours later "I need your help," Kjeld Playwell told an unknown minifig obscured by darkness. They were currently meeting in his office at Lego City. "Now I don't know much about Project Shadow other than the name. There was a file, but it was impossible to read the data." "And why is that?" The figure asked in a female voice. "It was password protected. Unfortunately, the file was created by the same scientist who developed Project Shadow and he never told anyone the password. That was fifty years ago." "But someone did figure out the password and stole the file from the laboratory." Kjeld nodded. "Dr. Eggman not only stole it but also deleted the original file from our servers." "So what do you want me to do?" The stranger asked. "I want you to find out why Dr. Eggman is so interested in Project Shadow and what he's planning to do with it." "So I'll be needing a Chaos Emerald then." Kjeld nodded before handing the blue Emerald to her. The minifig got up and stretched before heading outside. On Angel Island, a female minfig was currently trying to haul away a large green gem. She was wearing a black bodysuit along with a mask to hid her identity. "This is way too heavy..." she groaned. "HEY!" Knuckles angrily shouted as he charged at her. "BRING THE MASTER EMERALD BACK HERE!" He quickly smashed a rock, shattering it and causing one of the shards to hit the thief, knocking her down. "Don't you know what is? You're trying to take away the Master Emerald! You're putting us all in danger! The Master Emerald is the only thing that can stop the Chaos Emeralds from going out of control and you're going to help me take it back." "First, you'll have to catch me." She then tried to dash off. "COME BACK HERE!" Knuckles slammed his body into her, causing her to slam into a tree and lose her mask, revealing... Sunny Flare, former Shadowbolt member. "Gotcha!" Sunny growled angrily before snatching the Master Emerald again and activating her portable Jump-Gate. Knuckles clenched his fists as Angel Island suddenly began to fall to the ocean again. "So this Project Shadow file that Eggman stole," Rainbow Dash began as Celestia finished briefing them of the recent events. "What exactly is it?" "We are unsure. Professor Gerald Robotnik was the head scientist on the project in the hopes of finding immortality, but something went wrong down the line and the project was shut down indefinitely." "So what can we do?" Sunset asked Celestia. "Hunt for the Chaos Emeralds again? In case Eggman tries to use whatever Project Shadow is to try to attack us?" "Most likely. Tails has received an Emerald for saving the city from Eggman's missile, so we have one accounted for and my uncle has another one." 21:02 Prison Island: Inside the base "Intruder alert! Intruder alert!" A female voice announced on the island's loudspeakers. "Security breach at Gate 3! Intruder has been located in the north quadrant and is moving in the direction of the underground base! All units prepare to engage! Emergency battle formations! Standard battle procedures initiated! Locate and stop the intruder from entering the security area! This is not a drill! Repeat, this is not a drill! A security gate was blasted open as Dr. Eggman piloted his Egg Mobile walker through the prison's halls, blasting any security robots and defenses along the way. "Oh, ho, ho! This is more fun than hacking! Now, let's take a look at what my grandfather was working on, a top secret military weapon! The government shut down the research because they feared it!" He began to fight his way through the numerous security levels, easily besting the new defense robots commissioned by G.U.N. Soon, he finally reached Security Level 7. Blasting the door open, he entered the room. In its center was a computer console and below it, a small stasis tube. "So this is the military's top secret weapon? It's a lot smaller than I expected!" Eggman quickly entered a fake ID into the console. "Now for the password. The password is 'Maria.' Now all what's left is to power the machine with the Chaos Emerald and we're good to go." He placed the white gem into the main power slot. The stasis tube began to rise up to his level and slowly opened, mist pouring out of it with a hiss. A lone figure began to rise from the tube, in a shape that looked like a certain hedgehog... "Y-You?! It can't be!" Eggman shouted in disbelief as the hedgehog stepped out of the tube and stood before the mad doctor, still covered by smoke. //-------------------------------------------------------// Escape from the City //-------------------------------------------------------// Escape from the City 13:27 Above Lego City A military helicopter was flying over the Lego World's capitol on its way to the maximum security internment facility known as Prison Island. ""Attention control," the pilot said into the radio. "We are currently heading south. Suspects are currently in custody." "This is control speaking. We've verified your position. Handle your suspects carefully, they're a slippery bunch." In the back of the helicopter were several soldiers guarding their prisoners... Sonic the Hedgehog and Sunset Shimmer?! "You still haven't explained why we're under arrest!" Sunset demanded angrily. "From what I heard," one of the soldiers answered. "Your blue friend over there caused a bit of havoc on Prison Island last night and you're under arrest for sheltering a known felon." "Okay, this has been fun long enough," Sonic yawned as he easily broke the cuffs that were holding him. He quickly spun into Sunset's restraints, shattering them. "Grab him!" There was the sound of a brief scuffling before Sonic opened the door to the helicopter. Sunset's eyes widened as she knew exactly what he was planning. "Don't even think about it!" Sunset yelled as the blue hedgehog grabbed her and jumped off the edge, grabbing a piece of the copter off as a makeshift snowboard. Sunset clung to Sonic's back as he started to spin rapidly towards the city's streets. He began to slide down the sloped roads of Lego City, with Sunset screaming the entire time. "Dr. Snively," a G.U.N. soldier spoke into his walkie-talkie. "Blue hedgehog and his accomplice are escaping!" "Send in the truck!" His superior answered angrily. As Sonic and Sunset continued down the streets, a large semi-truck smashed through several cars and began to chase after them. "WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?!" Sunset's eyes were past their usual limit as Sonic ditched the board and began to run as fast as he could. The giant truck followed, the driver apparently not caring who was in the way. Sonic managed to reach the city's outskirts just as the truck crashed between a narrow alley. Sonic skidded to a stop and Sunset slid off his back. "Made it!" Sonic grinned. "ARE YOU CRAZY?!" Sunset screamed. "WE ALMOST GOT RUN OVER BACK THERE!" "But we survived, didn't we?" "I am never having you spend the night again..." Sunset grumbled to herself as they made their way out of the city. It was a quiet night for the Lego City museum's security. A black blur suddenly dashed through the defense systems and into the room holding the green Chaos Emerald on display. The minifig, a black hedgehog, smashed the display case holding the Emerald and grabbed the jewel. Alarms blared as he quickly vanished right then and there. The remaining Lego Team members were watching the security footage again in Celestia's office. "It can't be Sonic!" Rainbow Dash shouted. "He would never do something like this!" Fluttershy nodded in agreement. "He would never take something that didn't belong to him." "Sonic was framed!" Pinkie declared as Celestia rubbed her head. "Look, I understand your loyalty to Sonic, I am also sure he's innocent, but the public may not think so much. This robbery combined with the actions shown last night on Prison Island will be enough to have people accuse him of siding with Eggman." "And why did they arrest Sunset?!" Twilight angrily demanded. "She did nothing wrong either!" "I know, but Sonic was last seen at her house, so she was technically sheltering a criminal." She sighed with regret. "We have no choice but to place them under arrest until we find the real culprit." "So that's why we're here?" Rarity asked. The Lego Team head nodded. "I want you to clear Sonic and Sunset's names. Discreetly, of course." "Will do!" Pinkie bounced out of the office, followed by her friends. Sonic and Sunset had reached the city's outskirts. Sunset was panting in exhaustion from trying to keep up with Sonic. "This game of tag is boring," Sonic quipped. "We're outta here!" But before he could move any further, a large bipedal walker mech landed in front of him. It had two large missile launchers on its back, a cannon/machine gun below its cockpit and two jet boosters in its feet. "Finally decided to catch up, huh?" "This is Scorpion Troops' Big Foot," the mech's pilot stated. "Engaging the enemy and preparing to intercept!" The Big Foot mech took flight and tried to mow down both hedgehog and former pony alike with its gun. It then landed, giving Sonic the opportunity to attack the cockpit. "Big Foot to Headquarters! Requesting back-up!" Sunset noticed there was a panel behind the cannon on the mech. When it landed next, Sonic distracted the pilot who began firing missiles at the hedgehog. As Sonic dodged the projectiles, Sunset tore open the panel and began to pull out the Power Bricks. The mech began to sputter then collapsed to the ground. "H-How?!" The pilot shouted in disbelief as something suddenly warped on top of the the fallen mech. It was a black hedgehog with red stripes on his spines and arms. There was a white tuft of fur on his chest and he wore some form of skates on his feet. "What?!" Sunset shouted in disbelief at the doppelganger. "Am I... seeing double?!" "It all starts with this..." The black hedgehog muttered as he held up the Chaos Emerald he stole. "A jewel containing the ultimate power..." "Now I know what's going on!" Sonic angrily stepped forward. "G.U.N. has mistaken me for the likes of you! So, where do you think you're going with that Emerald?!" The imposter only sneered as Sonic dashed forward. "Say something, you fake hedgehog!" "Chaos Control!" The dark hedgehog grasped the Emerald tightly and suddenly disappeared. Sunset's jaw dropped at the sight. "He's as fast as me?! No... no, he's using the Emerald to warp!" "My name is Shadow," the new hedgehog introduced himself. "I am the world's ultimate life form. There's no time for games, farewell." Shadow quickly teleported away just as the entire Lego City police force surrounded Sonic and Sunset. "Don't move! We have you cornered!" Police Chief Marion Dunby shouted. Sonic and Sunset looked at each other before slowly raising their hands in surrender. "WHAT?!" Rainbow Dash screamed angrily over the phone. Twilight covered the sides of her head in irritation. "Sonic and Sunset were arrested just now," the purple-skinned minifig repeated herself. "And apparently are being taken to Prison Island." "Well, why are we standing around?! Let's break 'em out!" "We can't," Twilight rubbed her temples in frustration. "If we get caught, we'll be locked up as well. Or worse, have our Creation Sparks snuffed. G.U.N. isn't like the previous enemies we have faced, Rainbow. They seem to be more ruthless." "Well, Tails and Amy are already planning to break him out." "THEY'RE WHAT?!" Twilight was the one who was angry now. "Rainbow, we need to get the others. We're staging a rescue mission." //-------------------------------------------------------// Prison Island Break-In //-------------------------------------------------------// Prison Island Break-In Prison Island A few nights ago Dr. Eggman stared in disbelief as the hedgehog rose up from the stasis tube. "What?! Is that you, Sonic?! Coming to spoil my plans again?!" The mist suddenly cleared to reveal a black hedgehog with red stripes on his spines. "Wait a minute, you're not Sonic! This is impossible!" "My name is Shadow," the hedgehog replied in a mysterious voice. "Since you were so kind to release me, my master, I will grant you one wish." Before Eggman could reply, there was a loud clang and alarms started to blare. "Now what?!" The mad scientist yelled in frustration. "Behold the true power that I possess!" Shadow proclaimed, now floating in mid-air thanks to his hover skates. He quickly teleported to the room's entrance, facing a large bipedal walker that looked identical to the Big Foot mech that Sonic and Sunset would fight the next night. "This is Spider Troops' Hot Shot," the mech's pilot said into his comlink. "Intercepting intruder and preparing to engage." Shadow only smirked as he dodged the walker's machine gunfire and charged laser shots. When the Hot Shot mech landed to fire its missiles, the black hedgehog punched the cockpit, instantly shattering it. "He's too strong!" "Hmph. Pathetic humans," Shadow sneered as Eggman rejoined him. "Destroying that guard robot was spectacular!" The fat man said in awe. "So Shadow, you're the government's top secret weapon? But what did you mean when you said you would 'grant me a wish'?" "Bring more Chaos Emeralds," Shadow replied before walking away. "I'll be waiting for you on the Space Colony ARK." "ARK?!" Eggman's mind flashed back to the orbital research station his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, used to work on. When he looked up, Shadow was already gone. Space Colony ARK Present time Dr. Eggman stepped into the computer room located at the heart of the station. Shadow was already waiting for him. "This," the dark hedgehog began. "Is the Eclipse Cannon. A weapon with the power to wipe out a planet. It is yours to use if you wish." He slightly bowed his head as Eggman investigated the console. "Wait, a laser that can blow up planets?" Human Twilight interrupted Rainbow's imitation of Shadow. "Fired from a space station. That sounds a little too much like Star..." "It's a completely original concept!" Rainbow replied before continuing. "Hmmmmm. It looks like the Cannon will require all seven Chaos Emeralds to be at full power," Eggman said after a few minutes. "It may take a while to find the rest." "I already have acquired one," Shadow held out the green Emerald. "I saw on the news," Eggman grinned. "You even managed to get that annoying nuisance Sonic arrested!" "So that's his name..." Shadow muttered as another minifig swooped down from the ceiling. The two turned their heads to see Sunny Flare had managed to find her way up to the ARK as well. She was wearing a more conventional spy suit, perfect for heists and infiltration. "There room for one more?" The former Shadowbolt asked, pulling out the blue Chaos Emerald from her pocket. Eggman ran up to her in glee. She quickly pulled it away, shaking her claw hand. "Uh, uh, uh. You have to let me join your little club if you want it." "And what can you offer that I simply cannot take?" The doctor asked. "I know the location of three more Chaos Emeralds," Sunny raised her left eyebrow somewhat flirtingly. "And I know how to retrieve them." "Then welcome aboard, Miss..." "Flare. Sunny Flare," she shook Eggman's hand before noticing the black hedgehog. " And who's Tall, Dark and Mysterious over here?" "I'm Shadow. Shadow the Hedgehog." Sunny's eyes widened in shock at the name. "So where are these three Emeralds?" Eggman demanded. "Oh, that part's easy," the ex-Shadowbolt smirked. "They're on..." Sea near Prison Island A few days later A dark blue four-winged jet plane flew over the ocean leading to Prison Island. Its pilot, Miles "Tails" Prower, had a determined look in his eyes as his plane, the Cyclone, carried himself, Amy Rose, Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash to the prison complex/G.U.N. base. "You do realize this makes us criminals, right?" Twilight yelled over the wind. "Well, Sunset and Sonic are innocent," Rainbow countered. "And this is the quickest way to break 'em out!" "Plus, there's three Chaos Emeralds stored in the vault here," Tails added. "We're also here to stop Sonic's imposter from taking them." "Oh, I hope Sonic's alright..." Amy sighed. Rainbow and Twilight rolled their eyes at her devotion to the blue hedgehog. Meanwhile Inside Prison Island The island's warden, Howard Watcher, smugly looked at the security cameras overlooking Sonic and Sunset Shimmer's cell. He made sure to place them into the prison's best cage, a jail cell completely submerged in a tank of water. Knowing that the only way out was by an access panel from the outside and the fact that there was nowhere to escape but the bottom of the sea, Watcher knew he had both criminals trapped. Meanwhile on another end of the island, Dr. Eggman, Shadow and Sunny had rendezvoused to begin their heist. "Does everyone remember their part of the plan?" Eggman began. "I will cause some havoc in their shipyard, drawing the attention of the island guards. Shadow will then blow up the island with this miniature detonation device." He tossed Shadow the small bomb. "Then with the guards distracted, Sunny will enter the vault and grab the three Chaos Emeralds stored there. We have 20 minutes to pull this off. Make it happen!" Eggman's Egg Walker marched off towards the Weapons Bed while Shadow and Sunny headed off to complete their own objectives. At the same time, Tails' Cyclone had just landed outside the prison's main entrance and transformed into a walker. The girls disembarked from the mech's backseat and followed Tails towards the main entrance. Before they could enter the building, a huge explosion caught their attention. Rainbow Dash quickly zoomed towards the island's jungles to confront the source. Twilight and Tails sighed as he directed the Cyclone into the island base. Amy and Fluttershy followed closely behind. As Tails fought his way through the hallways of Prison Island, Amy saw a familiar shape in one of the rooms. "SONIC!" She suddenly ran into the room, unintentionally dragging poor Fluttershy with her, and glomped the hedgehog she believed was her true love. The hedgehog turned his head in confusion and surprise before shaking her off him. "Wait... you're not Sonic!" Shadow merely grunted before dashing out of the room, having set the explosives. Amy stamped her foot angrily before running out of the room to look for Sonic's cell. Fluttershy sighed as she looked around the room. It appeared to be an armory of sorts. Then the beeping sound caught her attention as she saw the timer on the wall, indicating the bomb was going to go off in 15 minutes. Her eyes widening in shock, Fluttershy ran as fast as she could out of the room and into Sunny Flare who was currently attempting to rob the vault. "S-Sunny?!" Fluttershy caught her breath. "What are you doing here?!" "No time to explain, Fluttershy," Sunny interrupted. "I need to get those Chaos Emeralds." "Wait, what...?" Fluttershy couldn't believe she was going back to being a bad guy. "But I thought you were going to turn over a new leaf!" "Look, I need to do this for my employer," Sunny stated. "So you either step aside or I will have to force you." "No." "Excuse me?" Fluttershy looked up with a determined glare in her eyes. "I will not let you get to those Emeralds." She raised her hands, preparing to fight. Sunny sighed as she suddenly dropped a smoke bomb, making Fluttershy cough and distracting her long enough for the former Shadowbolt to slip by and open the vault. Grabbing the three Chaos Emeralds and placing them into her bag, Sunny felt Fluttershy take hold of her shoulder. "That only worked for a few seconds," the pink-haired Lego Team member stated, her Pegasus wings flapping the smoke away. Her eyes had very little kindness in them now. "Look, I need to gain Eggman's trust..." Sunny began before Fluttershy punched her across the room. Sunny gasped at the force of the punch. "...I actually felt that." Setting the bag down, she launched herself at Fluttershy, hoping to kick her head. Fluttershy easily dodged and countered the attack. She quickly flew up into the air, giving her a slight advantage. "You're better than I thought, 'Shy." "I've been taking lessons," the normally timid girl replied, as she flew towards her opponent. Sonic and Sunset's cell Both of the imprisoned heroes looked up as the cell's entrance suddenly extended towards them with Amy Rose at the controls, carrying her giant Piko-Piko Hammer. "Amy!" Sunset ran up to the bars as the pink hedgehog skipped her way to them. "Have no fear, Amy Rose is here!" The pick hedgehog girl proclaimed proudly as she ran over to the cell door controls and smashed them with her hammer. The bars suddenly retracted, freeing Sonic and Sunset. "How did you even find us?" Sonic asked in disbelief. "Tails and Twilight gave me a ride." "...and they couldn't use the Jump Gate?" Sunset deadpanned. "This place seems to jam the signal," Amy explained. "Hence why Tails brought the plane." "Still, that black hedgehog is a problem..." Sunset mused. "You mean the one working with Eggman?" Amy asked. "Eggman again?!" Sunset groaned. "I thought Perfect Chaos sent him flying." "Eggface never does know when to quit!" Sonic replied as he stretched his feet. "I'm sick of being cramped up in here!" He quickly zoomed out of the room. Amy then noticed the numerous writings on the walls of their former prison. There were numerous equations and ramblings, along with a time of 27:53:00. "You guys wrote all that?" Amy asked in curiosity. "No, this was all here when we arrived," Sunset explained as they followed Sonic outside to freedom. Soon Sonic was racing through the harbor of Prison Island, hoping to meet up with the rest of the rescue party. As he reached the jungle, he noticed a familiar rainbow streak zooming through the trees. Smirking as he knew that it could only be Rainbow Dash. Catching up to his equally fast companion, he tapped her shoulder to get her attention. "Oh, hey, you made it out!" She grinned as they raced through the dense undergrowth. Stopping at a small island in the middle of a large lake, they noticed a black shape standing on one of the fallen trees. "Hey, that's..." Sonic started. "That blue hedgehog again of all place..." Shadow muttered to himself. "I found you, faker!" Sonic pointed at his doppelganger. "Faker? I think you're the fake hedgehog around here! You're comparing yourself to me?! Ha! You're not even good enough to be my..." "HE'LL MAKE YOU EAT THOSE WORDS!" Rainbow interrupted his gloating as she and Sonic leapt into battle. "Sorry, but there's only one real Sonic!" The blue hedgehog rolled into a ball, and rolled right into Shadow, tripping him. "Now then, Shadow, where's Dr. Eggman?!" "Oh, you'll know soon enough..." The black hedgehog smirked as his comlink suddenly buzzed. "Are the explosives set, Shadow?" Eggman's voice said. "Affirmative, Doctor," Shadow replied. "Good, the island will explode in ten minutes!" "Explode?!" Sonic and Rainbow asked in unison. "Well, I've run into a problem," Sunny Flare's voice said over the com. "I'm kind of stuck in the vault with a civilian." "Leave her, Shadow!" Eggman interrupted. "We'll fish the Emeralds out from the ashes!" "Understood," Shadow said before hanging up. Before he could leave, both Sonic and Rainbow grabbed his arms. "We're not letting anyone stay trapped here on this island," Sonic stated. "We're going to rescue your friend." "And you're gonna help!" Rainbow finished. Shadow closed his eyes in defeat. "...very well." //-------------------------------------------------------// The Eggman Empire //-------------------------------------------------------// The Eggman Empire Sonic and Rainbow Dash raced through the jungles of Prison Island back towards the main base to grab their friends before the island exploded in five minutes. The army of G.U.N. robots blocking their path was not making the job easier as they smashed through all the mechanical guards. Unfortunately, along the way, they came across a small blue robot calling himself "Omochao" and was proving to hinder their efforts more than helping. "Did you know you can move faster by running?" The blue robot stated as the blue speedsters groaned at another pointlessly obvious fact from their unwanted helper. "Gee, I never knew that!" Sonic replied with sarcasm. "Lego bricks can be put together!" Omochao continued, not taking the hint. Rainbow growled with frustration as they dashed through the giant logs and swung on the overgrown vines. "Collect rings to stay alive!" "THAT DOES IT!" Rainbow shouted as she grabbed the tiny robot's head and chucked him into the water. "Throwing Omochao is not niiiiiiice!!!!" The annoying robot's voice was silenced as he sank to the bottom. "Why would someone make a robot like that?!" She asked as they reached the jungle's exit. Inside the base Sunset Shimmer had managed to enter the vault just as the door slammed down. Sunny Flare and Fluttershy stopped their fight to see that all three of them were trapped. "Well, that's just great!" Sunny clutched the sides of her head in frustration. "I was THIS close to gaining Eggman's trust and you just had to blow my cover!" "Cover?" Sunset asked in confusion. "Yes, I was actually spying on Eggman at Kjeld's request! And I had to steal the Chaos Emeralds to make sure the guy fully trusted me!" "O-Oh..." Fluttershy looked down in shame. Sunset gently patted her back comfortingly. "Well, it won't matter now..." the former Shadowbolt continued. "Now we're all gonna get blown up." As if to prove her wrong, Shadow suddenly warped into the room. He gave a glare at the Lego Team members before turing to Sunny. "You have the Emeralds?" He asked. "Yeah," she patted her bag. "Good, then let's go." "Wait!" Sunset grabbed his arm, unknowingly triggering her mind reading powers. Her eyes glowed white as she looked into Shadow's memories. Shadow was running down the hallways of a space station, leading a young girl with blonde hair by her arm. They appeared to be chased by someone. Finally stopping in one of the rooms, the girl panted in exhaustion. Before she could fully catch her breath, the door suddenly opened, revealing a squad of soldiers. The girl took a quick panicked look at Shadow and began to limp towards a control panel. Pulling a lever, a glass tube lowered from the ceiling, encasing Shadow inside. "Maria!" The black hedgehog shouted, futilely banging on the glass as one of the soldiers raised his pistol. He fired a bullet, directly hitting Maria's creation spark. She began to collapse to her knees, still holding the lever. "Shadow, I beg of you..." she coughed. "For all the people on that planet..." She pulled the lever, releasing Shadow's tube towards the planet. "Sayonara, Shadow the Hedgehog..." Sunset gasped as she was drawn out of the memory, tears starting to form in her eyes. "You... never saw her again, did you?" She asked, causing Shadow to pause. "How did you...?" "I saw your memories," she continued, slowly bringing Shadow into a hug. Shadow growled before teleporting all four of them out of the exploding base. Elsewhere Sonic, Tails, Amy, Twilight and Rainbow Dash had managed to get back to the Cyclone plane and took off just as the runway exploded. Looking back at Prison Island, they saw the entire island be consumed in an inferno. "I just hope Fluttershy and Sunset made it out alright..." Twilight sighed. Canterlot City Shadow teleported into an alleyway, dropping Sunset and Fluttershy off. "Thanks, Shadow," Sunset coughed. "You saved our lives back there." "Hmph. I only care about the Emeralds, nothing else." Shadow replied. "You're not really a bad guy, are you?" Fluttershy asked, causing Shadow to pause again. He began to approach Sunny. "You... remind me of her," he said before teleporting himself, Sunny and the Emeralds to the ARK. "What was that about?" Fluttershy asked as they headed back to headquarters. "It's... complicated," Sunset replied with a sigh. A few days later Every television screen in the Lego World suddenly shut off, as a video of Dr. Eggman appeared. "Citizens of Earth, lend me your ears and listen to me very carefully! My name is Dr. Eggman, the greatest scientist and soon to be the world's greatest ruler! Now bear witness to the birth of the greatest empire of all time!" Up in space, a small orbiting geode suddenly burst open, revealing the mechanical face of the Space Colony ARK. In its center was a large spire which began to open and glow with blue energy. Taking aim at the moon, the large cannon fired a giant blue beam that could be seen from the surface of the Lego World. The instant it struck the moon, half of the celestial body was blown to bits, exposing its core. The citizens began to panic as all of the TV screens now showed a 24 hour countdown as Eggman's laughter echoed. The Lego Team looked up in shock as the energy beam in the sky vanished. They watched the whole ordeal from Celestia's office. Thankfully, the Lego Team's Lunar Base was evacuated and cleared out before the moon was blown in half. "Th-That energy was off the scale..." Twilight's eyes were definitely wider than ever now. "The moon was so pretty," Fluttershy sighed. "Why did Dr. Eggman have to wreck it?" "It has to use a bunch of energy to create a blast that devastating," Twilight adjusted her glasses a little. "Chaos Emeralds," Sunset deduced. "We know he has most of them." "Then we need to get up to that space station!" Pinkie shouted. "Space Colony ARK," Celestia explained. "It was a research station headed by a brilliant scientist. He created Project Shadow and also that weapon you just saw in action." "The Eclipse Cannon," Luna continued. "It has the power to wipe out a whole planet if it's fully charged." "Wait, that wasn't its full power?!" Rainbow asked. The sisters shook their heads. "Hence why we need you and Sonic's team to go up to the ARK and shut down the Eclipse Cannon before Eggman can fire it again." "Will do!" Pinkie saluted. "However," Celestia interrupted. "Using one of our own ships would certainly draw Eggman's attention and he will definitely fire the cannon much sooner." "So what's the plan?" "We learned that Eggman has set up a pyramid base in the Desert Region. If we're able to hijack one of his ships there..." "We can slip onto the ARK undetected!" Twilight leapt up in joy. "So how doe we stop the cannon?" Rarity asked. "With this," Tails pulled out the yellow Chaos Emerald he received from the city. "Um, wouldn't that be giving Eggman what he wants?" Rainbow asked. "Actually, this is an artificial one I created. My theory is if it's placed with the others, it can disable their energies, causing the cannon to shut down." "Then let's head to Eggman's pyramid!" Twilight activated her Jump Gate, and led the others through it. Just as the portal closed, Applejack accidentally bumped into someone. "What the hay?!" She rubbed her head and looked up to see the newcomer. "Knuckles!" Pinkie Pie giggled as she tackled the grumpy echidna. The Guardian let out an "oof" as the two tumbled into the sand. "What are you doing out here, Knux?" Sonic helped his friendly rival back onto his feet. "I've been tracking this thief who stole the Master Emerald," he growled. "Did she happen to look like this?" Pinkie pulled out a photo of Sunny Flare out of nowhere. "THAT'S HER!" Knuckles shouted. "She's on our side," Sunset explained. "She's working undercover." "Guys?" Twilight interrupted the reunion as she looked up from her binoculars. "I think I found our target." She pointed at a large pyramid in the distance. "Well, looks like we got a bit of a walk," Sonic sighed as the team began the long trek to the pyramid. //-------------------------------------------------------// Sand & Ghosts //-------------------------------------------------------// Sand & Ghosts Outside Dr. Eggman's Pyramid Base Tails lead the group of ten through the shifting desert ruins outside the large pyramid, dealing with G.U.N. security robots along the way. His Cyclone walker easily created paths from the numerous pillars for the rest of the team to cross. "It's weird that G.U.N. still has their robots after us even though we proved Sonic and Sunset were innocent," Twilight noted as they reached the inner area of the exterior. Now they had to contend with Eggman's robot guards. Fluttershy easily smashed one, freeing the captive animal inside. "They probably forgot to reprogram them," Sunset answered. Soon, they entered the large structure and were navigating the twists and turns of the darkened hallways. "This place is... freaky..." Fluttershy shivered as they suddenly reached a large chamber with a giant metal door blocking the path. Twilight inspected the door for a few minutes. "This looks new," she concluded. "It clashes with the rest of the pyramid." "And it looks like we'll be needing the keys," Sunset pointed to the three keyholes in the door. Twilight stood dumbfounded for a moment. "...how did I miss that?" Knuckles got on all fours and brushed some sand off the floor. "They haven't gone far," he informed the others. "I suggest we split up, it'll make finding them easier." Sunset nodded in agreement. "So we split into teams?" "I want Twilight and Applejack with me," Knuckles spoke up. "I may need some extra muscle and knowledge from both." The two minifigs nodded before following Knuckles down one of the hallways. Sunset, Rarity and Fluttershy veered off in the other direction, while Sonic and Rainbow Dash raced each other through the central door with Tails following close behind. Amy and Pinkie Pie were the only ones left in the main chamber. "So... guess we could check if any of the keys were stashed around here?" Amy suggested. Pinkie eagerly began to bounce all over the place, while her fellow pink companion looked at one of the large hourglasses stationed in front of one of the walls. Noticing the top of the hourglass had a large button, Amy leapt up and pressed her feet down, causing the object to flip over and a previously unseen door to open in front of her. "Hey, Pinkie!" She called out. Pinkie froze in midair as she saw the door begin to close. "Let's hurry through here!" The pink duo quickly rolled under the door just as it slammed shut. Amy turned to see a dimly lit hallway before them. Grabbing one of the wall torches, the two slowly crept through the bowels of the pyramid, unaware they were being followed... Applejack punched a wooden crate, shattering it and revealing one of the keys they were searching for. "One down, two to go!" Twilight proclaimed as Applejack handed it to her. Knuckles closed his eyes again as he began to sense for any signs of the remaining two. His concentration was broken as he suddenly detected a large swirl of energy nearby. "What is it, Knux?" Applejack asked. "Danger..." He replied hesitatingly. "...maybe it wasn't a good idea to split up..." Sunset, Rarity and Fluttershy had been dealing with the robot guards, all of whom bared a striking resemblance to E-102 Gamma. "They may look like Gamma," Rarity launched a diamond construct at another E-1000 guard, destroying it and freeing the animal inside. "But these ones have ghastly aim!" "Indeed," Sunset quickly punched through the one closest to her and grabbed the animal inside. The lifeless robot toppled over as soon as the creature was pulled out. Fluttershy quickly ducked at the sight of an E-1000 charging at her. Her crouching form caused the robot to trip and crash. She sighed in relief as a small bird flew out of the destroyed machine. "No luck finding any keys though..." Rarity dusted her skirt a little. The trio continued down the hall, also unaware they were being followed. At least, until Sunset paused. "You guys hear that?" She asked. "Hear what?" Fluttershy asked. "It sounded like... giggling." She shuddered a little as they entered a medium sized room. In the center of the room,her back to them was Pinkie Pie, her normally puffy hair was now straight and facing down. "Pinkie!" Rarity sighed in relief. "Thank goodness we found you!" "What are you doing here alone?" Fluttershy asked. "Waiting..." the pink minifig slowly turned around, her eyes and mouth closed. The sound of the giggling suddenly began to grow louder. "...FOR YOU!" Pinkie's eyes suddenly opened to reveal large dark orange and yellow irises. Her teeth on the other hand were all black and very sharp. Her friends screamed in terror as Amy floated over next to her, her face with the same features. "Now join us FOR ETERNITY!" Amy screamed in a demonic voice as a group of small white ghosts surrounded Sunset, Fluttershy and Rarity. "And that's the last one!" Twilight wiped her forehead as Knuckles dug up the final key. They were in a large room with a very large piston in the center. As they began to head back to the door, the sound of screaming filled their ears. Rushing to the source of the screams, they arrived just in time to see Sonic and Rainbow Dash being pushed into a portal in the wall by the possessed Rarity and Fluttershy. "Knuckles, help-!" Rainbow was unfortunately cut off by the wall sealing up. Rarity and Fluttershy turned their heads and grinned as more ghosts flew at Knuckles and the others. "Get down!" The echidna warned as they dropped to the floor, the ghosts flying over them. "We gotta get back!" The trio quickly ran back to the room they were just in. They suddenly stopped when an unearthly roar filled the chamber. "Wh-What was that?" Applejack trembled as their possessed friends floated before them. Twilight slowly turned around to see a large ghost with a very big mouth. "A g-ghost!" Twilight whimpered as their friends began to surround them. "Bring them to me," the large ghost commanded. The smaller ghosts flew towards the remaining three team members. That's when Knuckles noticed one of the ghosts was carrying another of those odd hourglass statues. Running towards the specter, dodging the large fireballs thrown by it, he delivered it a giant punch, causing it to dissolve and drop the hourglass as a result. A stone door on the ceiling suddenly opened, causing all the ghosts to dissolve and shriek in agony. The possessed Lego Team members collapsed to the floor as their possessors flew out of their bodies and dissolved as well. "Why is everything spinning?" Sunset groaned as Sonic and Rainbow Dash returned from the ghosts' world. "Just some unexpected paranormal possession," Twilight explained, helping Sunset to her feet. As they head back to the door, Knuckles held out the three keys and handed one to Twilight and the other to Rainbow Dash. Stopping at the large metal door, they placed the keys into the locks, causing it to open. Inside was a large chamber over a quicksand pit. "I'm surprised you made it this far!" Dr. Eggman's voice called out. A second door opened to reveal the mad scientist in his mech walker. "But this ends now! Give me the Chaos Emerald!" "Come and get it, Eggface!" Sonic taunted. "Come forth, my servant!" Eggman shouted. A large brick-built statue rose from the sand and glared menacingly at the Lego Team. It raised its fists, hoping to smash the group into many tiny pieces. Dodging the blow, Rainbow Dash noticed the top of the golem's head had a large button. Flying up to it, she quickly slammed into the button, causing it to spark and shake. "Okay, that's a serious design flaw!" Sunset pointed out. "So are those!" Twilight directed the group's attention to a series of platforms on the statue's back, each one leading straight to the button. "Not one of your best designed mechs, eh doc?" Sonic smirked. "Sh-Shut up! I only modified it slightly when I found it!" Pinkie Pie tossed some sprinkles at the Egg Golem's weak spot, completely disabling it and sending it back into the sand from whence it came. "This isn't over!" Eggman shouted as he headed to the teleporter room. "I'll be seeing you on the ARK soon!" "So now he's inviting us to his base?" Applejack asked. "Something's not right..." "Hey, I found a shuttle all of us can fit in!" Amy called out. The others followed her into a hanger bay holding a large Lego space shuttle. Climbing into the cockpit, Tails immediately ignited the engines. The hanger doors opened and the shuttle began to blast off towards the Space Colony Ark, and the final showdown.
