"Rainbow at Vanilla Twilight"

Twilight sat down in her empty castle. No one lived with her - Spike now lived with Discord, Flutter Shy, Trixie, Starlight, and Thorax as besties. Rarity planned to move to Manehatten, Apple Jack was at her farm, which was all the way on the other side of Pony-Village - far, far out from Pony-Village itself. Pinkie was with the Cakes at a baking competition for a few months, and Flutter Shy and the gang went to see the Breezies for a year or so.

Twilight thought, 'Rainbow has the Wonder Bolts Academy to teach this week.' But boy, was she wrong. No, Rainbow had not entered the castle, she was sleeping in her Claudium Dome as usual. Rainbow Dash had just fallen asleep an hour ago. . .but lately she was never at the Academy.

"Well, I might as well see what the Queen, Princesses, and Duchess are up to." Twilight blurted out, annoyed. She had two and a half hours before flight practice with Dash, then a Daring Do reading break, then three hours of more practice, then lunch, and then a  stop at Dash's for a glass of water, and finally, another 30 minutes or so on practice before relaxing, talking together about whatnot, the usual Saturday schedule.

'When will it finally be time to practice with Dashi- . . .I mean, Dash? Five and a half hours with her...' She thought. Then she instantaneously attempted a memory wipe to remove that thought from her head. She sighed. 'Why do I get so worked up and readily happy to see Dashie? Is it because of the reading sessions? The fact that I've known her as a friend since I was a young filly of Canterlot? The lunches? The flight practice itself? I don't know, but I hope to find out. . .' She thought.

"Well, I should get to the princesses." She muttered. But then, she instantly sped up to find that it was  2:30 pm, not 12:30 pm. She had 30 minutes to race to Rainbow Dash's place before the practice was cancelled. Knowing she would see Dash gave her an energy boost and she flew faster than ever. She soon got to the practice at around 3 o' clock sharp.

She started to see Dash's house as she flew as high as the rooftops. "Rainbow Dash! I'm here!" She quickly zoomed onto Dash's front porch and knocked on the door, hoping Dash was still up. "Hello?" Twilight called out.

Dash quickly jumped up out of bed. "What- huh?!" She exclaimed. She soon noticed the purple Alicorn waiting at the front door. She walked up and opened said door. "Hey, Twilight. You're late, aren't you?" She asked calmly. She welcomed said purple Alicorn into her Dome and started the lesson.

"Oh, I see. . .so, I just have to flap in this pattern, right?" Twilight asked, pointing at her pattern of flight wing-flapping, which she deliberately messed up. She blushed, hoping Dash wouldn't question how she got such an easy question wrong and just explain anyway.

"Well, not exa- no, that's not it. You see, you have to do this. . ." Explained Dash, pointing at the proper lesson and elaborating. Though, she did wonder how Twilight forgot such an easy lesson in such little amount of time.

Twilight blushed when she heard the cute, raspy voice from the other mare. Dash could send warm shivers down Twilight's spine whenever she spoke or made eye contact. Twilight did not realize she had such feelings for Dash. Hell, she had felt this way since the two first met. Twilight got highly jealous of anypony else talking to Dash, other than her. Even a hug can send jealousy and rage down the purple Alicorn's face and spine.

"Oh, y--yes. . .I under. . .stand." She stuttered - Dash's voice was getting to her.

Later during the final round of actual flight, Twilight had the feeling confessions needed to be made. But yet, she did not know how to confess, nor did she have such strength to do so. Maybe later, will such be said.

"Dash, I- I. . ,need to tell you something." She stuttered. She was going to do it.

"What is it? Can you say it quickly? We really should get going." Dash responded, worriedly.

"I kind of. . ." She started, but towards the end her voice became a whisper. ". . .like you." She finished softly.

"Oh, well. . .ugh. . .can we talk another time? I really got to go, but I will see you tomorrow at. . .10:30 am through-out 10:30 pm. Okay?" Said Dash.

"Okay, got it!" Twilight jumped. She felt as if she had a first date, so naturally, she was extremely excited.

During the afternoon, Twilight thought about what had happened. It was the only thing that occupies her mind. 'Does she care?' She thought, her thoughts going in circles, but she never came to an answer - only time would tell. She was thinking about going upstairs and reading a book. But then she remembered, 'Someone just invented this thing called a television a while ago. . .maybe I could check that out?'

So she did. She went to the nearest store and bought a television. She watched channels dedicated to the Wonder Bolts, Daring Do books, Pegasi, royalty, popularity, and such. She then knew why Rarity enjoined those things - flirting with colts she barely knew. It made for good drama. "I'll go to Rarity for advice!" Twilight exclaimed. But then she remembered - Rarity wasn't too fond of Rainbow Dash and wouldn't put much effort into finding out about her style, personality, and all of that. She was too stubborn to help Twilight, so Twilight had to make Dash happy on her own.

Twilight Sparkle, Gilda, and Flutter Shy were Rainbow Dash's only childhood friends. So they knew the most about her. They were a small group of four friends, which is why Twilight defended Gilda in "The Griffon Brush Off" when Pinkie complained about her. She's bound to know more about Rainbow Dash!

Time passed and it was already late evening, Twilight was watching a lot of television to find out more about the things Dash liked. She was panicking, she hadn't gotten her things prepared for her wedding on time! She took a deep breath, looked around, and thought, 'Well, I shouldn't waste my time panicking and just fix the problem. At least, that's what Dash taught me way back when we first met.' She got to work cleaning up her house, getting her outfit ready for tomorrow and preparing dinner for when the others return from the movies.

Before long, it became night time. Twilight finally decided to rest in her castle bed, although she had a hard time falling asleep, which worried her. 'What if I don't wake up on time tomorrow?' She thought.

At night, Twilight dreamed about what tomorrow's first date would be like, both good AND bad outcomes. 'Well, Dash and I have a lot in common, we have a lot of differences, but we still have a lot of new things to explore' She thought. She was confused at how willing Dashie was to date her. How curious. She then wanted Spike to be there to message Dash to come over. Maybe she could visit Dash herself? She felt as if she were slowly becoming practically addicted to the Pegasus mare, but she liked it.

There was a sudden knock on the door. "Twilight, can I stay for the night? My house is being funky and I have no place else to live. . ." Said a familiar voice.

Twilight jumped up in excitement, hoping her ears were correct. She ran to the Crystalline Friendship Castle door and opened it. "Y-yes, you may!" She stuttered, in a loud exclaim. She welcomed Dash inside, having her share a room with Twilight.

"Thank you, Twilight. Um, hey, can you tell me why you like me?" Asked Dash, fluttering her wings happily.

"Well, I would have to start with. . ." Twilight started, blushing and stuttering.

"One second, I need to go to the bathroom. I'll be back in just a second." Rainbow only slightly interrupted.

Twilight sat there and waited for a short while, though it felt like an eternity. Finally, Dash came back. Dash had packed some things for staying a few weeks with Twilight at her castle. Hell, it could be a few months.

Twilight took a deep breath before she started. "So, I like you because you're kind, you have good looks, you're proud of yourself, childish and yet, fun to be around, humorous, and encouraging. I could go on an eternity, but that's not worth us both losing sleep over. I also like how good a prankster you are- you're...awesome." Twilight said, blushing as her eyes watered. She fluffed her wings and lied down on the bed.

"Oh, I see. I think that's pretty cute." She said as she flew over and lied in bed with Twilight, giving her a hug and rubbing her back.

Twilight yawned and soon fell asleep, as well as Dash. They cuddled together the rest of the night. They both dreamed similarly about how tomorrow will go - they didn't know what will happen for certain, but they knew they had to hope for the absolute best.

The next morning, they quickly got up and ran around to different rooms, getting themselves ready. Twilight got on a dress: it was a dark navy blue and golden design at the end of the sleeves, around the neck, and the bottom of the dress; she wore earrings that were pure gold with a navy blue sapphire in the middle, along with golden shoes and blue glove-sleeves with golden decor at the top-opening that compliment the dress. She didn't wear make-up that was too noticeable other than her navy blue eye shadow.

Rainbow Dash, on the other hand, wore a bright red dress which also had golden decor; she wore glove sleeves on both her fore-hooves and back hooves; she brushed her hair to make it look much more smooth, and had red contacts on.

They were ready! But not quite satisfied. Twilight wanted a more casual, less feminine style and Dash wanted a more full-blown Stallion style. But it was all they had, and they had no time to deal with such an issue.

"Well, we. . . .should get to the movies now." Rainbow Dash said, blushing.

"As we should." Said Twilight, a bit embarrassed, yet confident with herself.

So they went off to the movies. They had a long slow fly to their destination so they talked to each other casually, until Dash started ranting loudly. It was about her and Twilight's relationship, as well as her previous.

"Well, hopefully this works out. As it turns out, constantly challenging your lover can actually hurt your relationship. It also gets very bland to have the same few challenges with the same person that is stronger AND faster than you. Bucking apples, too easy for her. Chores, ew. Reading the history of the Apples, SO boring. So WHY did I ever have feelings for A.J.? She's hypocritical and annoying! She tells me what to do 24/7 and acts like she's my mom. She is constantly doing chores and forcing me to do them too!" Exclaimed Rainbow Dash, angry and annoyed at the thought. She flew ahead quickly, signaling Twilight to follow.

"I feel the same way, Dash. I was with her once, too. She also made me do chores and forbade me from reading things non-apple related. She told me I could not fly or use my magic for my chores because of a 'Pony Village tradition'. It made me quite upset - I felt as if she did that to make her family look good." Twilight responded. She was mad that A.J. did that to her Dashie.

"I feel as if I'm just a tool to her and she's just a fool of the good." Rainbow Dash stated. She and Twilight flew ahead, they still weren't at the theatre.

"Well, you've not confronted her behaviour?" Twilight questioned, wrapping her foreleg around her rainbow maned lover.

"I never wanted to talk to her again. I don't hate her, but I feel like if I got involved, I'd be forced into more chores and shit." Dash wailed

"Hmm. . .makes sense. Us saying this may sound selfish and lazy, but others just don't understand."

"Yeah! Me, you, Gilda, Flutter shy, and Shining Armour are childhood friends, though. Twilight, is it right to date you if you're my best and childhood friend?" She stared at the purple Duchess as she spoke, unsure what she was going to respond with it.

"It's fine - it IS called being friend-zoned!" She responded, she looped Dash, flying in a circle.

"Are-" She stuttered, getting interrupted.

"Hm?" Asked the purple mare.

"Are you. . .sure?" She asked with worry and confusion.

"Of course! I'm the Duchess of Friendship, for Pete’s sake!" She shouted happily, flailing her arms.

"Oh, okay. . ." Dash responded, looking confused at how hyper Twilight was.

They finally reached the theater. As they walked up to the low-quality ticket booth, they remembered - they left all of their bits at home! So, they panicked, hoping the guy would let the Wonder Bolts' captain and the newest Duchess of Equestria through with out tickets.

"Um. . .hello?" Twilight interrupted.

"Yes?" Asked the ticket booth Stallion.

"I am Duchess Twilight Sparkle with my Filly-friend, Wonder Bolts Captain Rainbow Dash - can we have tickets?" She asked.

"Just because you're an Alicorn, doesn't make you a Duchess. . .Being a fast-flyer of the Pegasi race doesn't make you the Wonder Bolts Captain, either. I need bits, or you get no tickets." Said the Stallion.

". . .Fine." Said Dash.

"Let's fly back to my castle, find the bits, and fly back. Alright?" Whispered the Duchess.

"Ugh, can't we teleport?" Asked the Pegasus.

"Ever since going through some form of 'Alicorn puberty', I've had funky magic defects." Replied Twilight.

"Alright." Sighed Dash.

So, they flew back slowly and continued to talk.

"Well, it's not that bad. We'll just-" She paused.

"Just what, Twily?" The Pegasus asked.

". . .Miss the movie." Said the Duchess

"Oh, well then." Finalized the Pegasus.

After that, they got to the castle, found the bits, got back, and watched whatever was left of the movie. They thought the movie quality was not the best, to be honest.

"It was kind of a bummer, that movie." Said Dash.

"I know. It made no sense, lots of continuity errors and the foreshadowing was too obvious. The book series did it much better, not to mention they were based off of her experiences as her job of uncovering secrets asked by Celestia to do so." Elaborated Twilight.

"Yeah, they practically ruined it. Absolute trash, I expected so much more from this." Said the Pegasus.

They finally got back to the house. Twilight gave her royal chef the recipes needed to make dinner.

"So, what would you like to talk about?" Asked Twilight.

"Nothing, I want to eat." Whined Dash.

"Oh, okay. Dinner should be done in 35 minutes, it seems." Said Twilight, looking at the clock she rescued from the destroyed Golden Oaks Library.

"Okay!" Dash responded.

After dinner, they went to bed. They slept well, and cuddled in their sleep. Spike finally got home to find them sleeping. He noticed something odd in how they cuddled each other in their sleep.

"Um. . .Twilight?" Spike asked, waking up the two mares and accidentally startling them.

"Agh!" They both screamed.

"Why is Dash here?" He asked.

"My. . .house broke down, yeah!" Said Dash.

"I will tell you the story when we wake up tomorrow." Twilight exclaimed. After that, the three of them fell asleep whilst the maids, chefs, and butlers cleaned the house.

"Should we be worried about our Duchess and the Wonder Bolts Captain?" Asked one maid.

"No, we shouldn't. It's not important, them being together in that sense." Responded the Butler as he dusted the clocks and paintings around the house.

"Well, I would say they're too friendly. The Duchess deserves a true colt, not a sloppy Wonder Bolt Captain!" Said the first maid.

"I personally know the Duchess AND the Wonder Bolt Captain as childhood friends." Said Gilda. She became a maid to apologize to Twilight and desperately wanted to help.

"And what is that supposed to mean?" Retorted the first maid.

"It means that they're perfect for each other. I'm proud they can love each other!" Said Gilda before storming off into the guest room to clean it.

"Whatever. My point still stands:  Dumbass plus Duchess equals kill me now" Said the first maid maliciously.

The morning awoke and so did the two lovers. Spike got up three hours later. They had some explaining to do.

"So, about what you promised last night, fillies." Said Spike demandingly.

"DON'T talk to the Duchess like that!" Demanded Dash.

"She's MY mama. I talk to her HOW. I. WANT!" Spike yelled angrily.

"That is NOT how you talk to me or my Dashie, Spike!" The Duchess scolded.

"Anyway, Twilight and I are dating. We started dating two days ago, alright? So technically, since she IS your mother, I'm your STEP-mother. . .and when we get married, I'll be your REAL Mother, legally. As well as Twilight." Said Dash.

"W-what?!" Exclaimed Spike in surprise and shock.

The rest of the day, Twilight and Dash explained to Spike how and WHY this happened. As well as the servants of the castle too.

"So, when are you getting engaged?" Asked Spike

"Probably in few months!" The two lovers synchronized.

Later that night, there was a disturbance. And odd figure came back with an army and replaced Spike and the others, leaving only Twilight and Dash. As it turned out, five of these evil beasts where disguised as everyday objects, waiting for attack.

In the morning, the two lovers woke up to find how odd everyone had been acting. When they realized what had happened, they figured how lucky they were - how they didn't get caught.

"Hello?" Asked Dash.

"What is it?" Inquired the fake maid.

"You guys are. . .acting weird. Are you okay?" Said the Duchess.

"Y--yes, just--. . ." Fake Gilda said, being interrupted.

Twilight sighed, whispering to Dash how they should get to the Queen, Duchess, Princesses, Prince, Wizards, and other Elements of Harmony urgently. So they did, they ran everywhere. . .but everywhere they went; fake, fake, fake. Where were are the real ones?

"Twily, I think Crysalis is back with a NEW army. . ." Dash said, shuddering at the thought, thinking about however they could prevent the return.

"I think you're right." Twilight said fearfully, hoping her lover had a quick solution.

"What are we going to do?" Dash shouted. They both ran off to a small bush and hopped inside of it, they thought around for a minute, until one of them gave a remarking idea.

"Save the day ourselves. The Changeling Hive was destroyed, so surely there is a way to use magic." Twilight exclaimed giving great detail on what to do.

"I hope you're right!" Dash worried, fluffing out her wings for air.

"I do, too!" Twilight whisper-shouted.

"Well, what to do now?" Dash whispered.

"Get to the Crystal Empire, if that's under attack; go to Maretonia." Twilight points to a random direction out of physical expression.

"What's 'Maretonia', Twilight?" Dash asked in confusion, she'd only heard 'Maretonia' when the Maretonian Duke & Duchess arrived when the new Duchess (Twilight Sparkle) had been crowned.

"Th-the Alicorn civilization. . ." Twilight stuttered, praying that no Changelings could hear the two lovers' conversation.

"Oh, well, how will being there help?" Dash asked.

"To hide." Twilight replied.

 “Oh, um. . .okay." Dash frowned.

So, the two set out to the Crystal Empire in hopes that someone there could help. They traveled long and far before. . .a gasp was heard.

"I-is that?. . ." Dash asked.

"I think. . .it is." Twilight worried, sighing from fearful thoughts
