Chapter 1
Load Full StoryThe night called my name out. With a howling wind, it soared through the air, reaching each and every ponies’ ears. I stayed there. The midnight summer’s leaves brushed against the breeze, never not moving. The moon slowly crept it’s way up the branches of the old oak tree. The newspaper said that the troops would be sent back home, not a day late. I patiently stayed there. Another breeze gently slapped me across the face, making my mane brush against my muzzle. My neighbors quietly ate dinner in their warm homes. I patiently stayed there, out in the cold. He was coming back. Many of my friends recieved letters, telling them that the stallion they awaited would not arrive. I never got one. I had hope. The brown crusty leaves rolled on the ground, my hooves beginning to sink into the park bench. Again the night calls my name, this time with growing intensity, I stood my ground, just as he would’ve. My stomach turned and twisted, a black void manifesting within my abdomen, churning away at my soul. Out of the corner of my eye, I see it. A cart with a single lamp hanging off of it. It stopped every few houses, dropping of colts and stallions adorned in wrecked and ruined pieces of metal of what used to be gleaming plates of armor. After what seemed like an eternity the cart approached my home, it stopped just a few hooves length of it. A warm wet feeling came across my face, tears. A tear or two rolled down my face. My eye’s holding back a barrage, acting as a barrier for my emotions. A hoof stepped off from the back of the cart, too dark to notice anything else. The stallion connected to the hoof stood with an orange coat of fur, and his armor donning a beaten discolored crest.
“Twilight Sparkle” The stallion spoke, cutting through the midnight silence like a sharpened blade.
“Flash Sentry” My voice cracking in fear.
“Your brother” His muzzle pointing to the ground. “He didn’t get the message to pull out”
“There’s still -“ I choked on my words “ still a chance right?” My eyes releasing tears, drowning me in my sorrows.
“Of course, but, I-I just came here to tell you” His hoof gesturing apologetically “I-I don’t really know what to say besides the fact that he’s still out there”
“I-I understand” I started crying, Flash got back in the cart, and it drove off. I used my scarf to wipe away remaining tears as I got myself together. I got back on the bench, staring up into the sky, staring into the same sky that I know my brother was staring up at as well. I patiently stayed, out in the cold, with hope. I say under my breath as my consciousness drifts off into the night. “I will wait for you, B.B.B.F.F.F.”
