Scarlet Dust has only known war his entire life, peace being nothing more than a hazy memory or a fanciful dream for the future. A newly promoted Captain in the ground defense forces of the Northern Star Alliance, he attempts to lead his battle-hardened company to victory against a powerful and ruthless adversary who has them outnumbered and outgunned.
In a galaxy enveloped in the flames of hatred and war, the grim Captain tries desperately not to drown in the death and despair that surrounds him on all sides, relying on his friends and fellow soldiers to stay alive, and, perhaps more importantly, sane.
The conflict between the Empire and the Alliance has raged for more than twenty years, with neither side seeming capable of breaking the brutal stalemate. But now the war has taken on a new dimension with the discovery of powerful and ancient technologies that could give either side the edge they need to push to the other into oblivion.
Dust now finds himself drawn into a mad race to reclaim these potent alien artifacts, which, if used without caution, could spell the end of all life in the galaxy.
