The morning sun was rising over Ponyville brightening up the town. Ponies were getting out of bed, about to start their daily routines. That is except for one dragon. Spike didn’t want to get up, he was having a ‘fun’ dream. Unfortunately for him, he lived with Twilight Sparkle. The pony who kept to her schedule, without a second to spare. Noticing Spike had not woken up, Twilight went over to his bed.
“Spike, wake up!” Twilight lightly shook him to wake him up.
“Five more minutes…” Spike responded, still half asleep.
“NOW SPIKE! We need to get the chores list done early. Have you forgotten you promised Rarity, that you would help her today?” Twilight spoke, knowing that would get him out of bed. Spike instantly woke up, and got out of bed.
“You’re right, I completely forgot. Thank you Twilight.” Spike yelled as he ran (almost to Rainbow Dash speeds) to the bathroom to get cleaned up. Twilight shook her head, giggling slightly. She made her way downstairs to her desk, checking the task list for the day.
“Let’s see… Dust off the shelves, make sure books are in alphabetical order, sweep the floors…” Twilight was interrupted by the sound of Spike turning off the shower.
“Nice and clean for Rarity. Gotta make sure I look perfect today. Today’s finally the day I will ask Rarity to be my special pony.” Using the mirror, Spike checked to make he brushed and flossed every single tooth. When he was satisfied, he went downstairs to start his chores.
“Alright Spike, I want you to dust the shelves to start.” Twilight pointed as she spoke.
“I can’t do that Twilight.” Spike gave her a ‘you should know’ look.
“Why is that?” Expecting Spike to give her a terrible excuse.
“I just got cleaned up, and I can’t go to Rarity’s dirty from all the dust.” Spike said, causing Twilight to giggle.
"My apologies Romeo. Could you reorganize the book alphabetically?”
“That I can do!” Spike getting started right away, not wasting a moment. Halfway through, Spike stopped.
“I’ll get breakfast started Twilight.” Spike said, running to the kitchen. Twilight didn’t respond, she was too busy finishing dusting the books. A few moments later she finished, noticing Spike was gone.
Probably making breakfast. I should check to make sure he actually placed the books in proper order. Twilight made her way to the first book shelf. Taking a look, right away she noticed they weren’t.
“Breakfast is ready Twi.” Spike shouted.
“Coming.” Twilight made her way to the dining room. The usual breakfast was waiting for them. Gems for Spike and a bunch of dandelions for Twilight. She sat beside Spike. Spike noticed she had ‘that’ facial expression again. He knew she was about to lecture him on something.
“Spike, how many times do I have to tell you? It has to be placed in this order, subject, author, title and year of publication!” Twilight spoke with an annoyed tone in her voice.
“Like I’m going to look at every book to see how many pages there are. It would be so much easier if you just went author then title. Then you might have some actual free time sometimes, but then you wouldn’t know what to do.” Spike couldn’t hold back his laugh.
“Oh yeah? Just for that, you have to read a nature book to me tonight before bed. What do you think about that smart guy?” Twilight teased.
“That’s every book in this library.” Spike teased back.
“You just have to look, there’s so many great books out there, and I plan on reading them all!”
“Earth to Twilight. Come back to reality.” Spike waved his claw in front of her face. Twilight snapped out of it.
“Sorry Spike, I got carried away.” Twilight cheeks were turning red.
“Yeah, well let’s finish our breakfast so we can finish our chores.” They both finished their breakfast quickly. Getting back to the library, Spike continued alphabetizing all the books, doing it his way. Once he finished, he checked the time.
“Eleven o’clock! I need to get my stuff!” Spike ran upstairs to grab the cash he saved up for this moment. He quickly ran back downstairs yelling a quick “goodbye” to Twilight, as he quickly left for the flower stand. He arrived there in the nick of time, there was only one dozen of roses left! And in Rarity’s favourite colour.
“Hello sir, how can I help you today?” The earth pony running the stand asked.
“I would like to buy your last dozen roses, and I could I get them put in a nice vase please.”
“Sure thing, I will go get a vase in the back.” The earth pony walked off. After what felt like forever for Spike, he saw her coming back, with the flowers and vase.
“Here you go sir, what do you think?” Spike stared in awe.
“It’s perfect!” Spike said placing his money on the table.
“Keep the change.” Spike said grabbing the flowers and running off.
“Why thank you for your generosity sir.” The pony waved him goodbye.
Alright, now to get some chocolates, and the best there is. I know Rarity loves her dark chocolate. I guess that’s the type ‘high society’ eats.
Spike arrived, no line up. Thank Celestia, he thought to himself.
“Hello sir how can I help you?”
“A box of your finest dark chocolates please.”
“Right away sir.” The pony went into the back to grab the chocolates. Spike knew Rarity would love these chocolates, he has been here with her before. She absolutely loves these. She feels the ones from Sugar Cube Corner are not ‘high quality’ enough for her standards. Spike noticed the pony came back.
“Here you are sir, the finest I have.”
“Thank you.” Spike placed the money on the table. He grabbed the chocolates and ran off, hoping he wasn’t late for his appointment with Rarity. Spike was standing in front of Carousel Boutique. His heart was racing, he was short of breath, nerves taking over. He put the flowers and chocolates on the side and took a few deep breaths. He made he still looked ok, and checked to see if he had enough money for the date. After he got his confidence, he grabbed the flowers and chocolate. He knocked on the door, his nerves were taking over again. The door opened, with his crush on the other side, Rarity. All of his confidence left, he wanted to just turn around and not come back. He was interrupted by Rarity.
“Hello Spike, you just arrived on time. Please come in.” Rarity noticed the dragon was nervous about something.
“Are you alright Spike?” Rarity asked with concern. Spike snapped out of it, slightly gaining confidence.
“I am fine Rarity.” Spike remembered he had gifts for Rarity.
“These are for you Rarity.” Handing over the flowers and chocolate.
“I just love these flowers, and my favourite chocolates! Spike you shouldn’t have!” Rarity said wearing the biggest smile. She quickly put the flowers on her work table. Unable to resist, she opened the box of chocolates and ate one.
“Rarity I wanted to ask you a question.” That’s when it hit Rarity, he was going to ask her to be his special pony. She couldn’t believe she didn’t notice since he brought her, her favourite chocolates and flowers. She didn’t like him like that. Why did he have to ask now? She started looking for an excuse when she was interrupted.
“Rarity, will you be my special pony?” Using all his courage to ask her that question.
“You’re very kind Spike, but I cannot accept.” Rarity responded.
