Chapter 1

Celestia had tossed and turned in her sleep, a nightmare overtaking her dreams. A nightmare full of familiar sights and old faces. She was shaken to the core when she was finally woken up from the dream. Her breath came in sharp gasps as she sat there the images running through her mind. A unique shaped mirror and an orange unicorn. It filled her with an intense fear and worry that she hadn’t felt since the return of her old enemy Discord. She put a hoof against her forehead trying to steady herself and calm down.

“It was only a dream” She breathed “Only a dream…”

She slowly climbed out of her bed, standing unsteadily on her hooves. The moon was still in the sky but it would soon be time for her to raise the sun. She was reminded that her sister was still awake and she looked at the door.

“Perhaps I should ask her about the dream…” She asked herself.

Celestia shook her head and began to pace, she knew that if she mentioned the dream then she would have to explain her previous failings. She could not admit to her own sister that she had failed yet another pony. Turning back to the window she let out a low sigh shaking her head again to dislodge the memories of the nightmare.

“She is not returning” Celestia said “The pathway is sealed, she cannot return.”

She moved from the inner chamber of her room forcing herself to think about the upcoming conference. Twilight Sparkle would be arriving sometime in the next day to meet with their allies. Equestria had many allies, and they all wanted to meet with the newest member of Equestrian Royalty.

“I hope she is not too nervous” Celestia said “Well we do have time to prepare her.”

Worrying about Twilight Sparkle was always good for distracting Celestia. She had complete faith in her favorite student, but she still worried about her. There were so many challenges that were thrown at her student, yet she seemed to overcome all of them. She had complete faith in her faithful student.

“That’s better” She said using her own magic to make herself presentable.

The chiming of a clock marked the time and she noticed Luna walking out onto the balcony. She trotted out to meet her smiling at her sister.

“Good morning Luna” She said hugging her sister.

“I see the morning finds you in good spirits dear sister” Luna said.

Celestia nodded and walked over so that Luna could use her magic to lower the moon. There was something beautiful about the setting of the moon. She nearly hated to break the stillness of the moments before dawn but she would not deny her duty. Using her own magic she lifted the sun watching the sky lighten and turn a brilliant cerulean, she placed the sun into motion and turned toward Luna.

“There, the day has risen” She said “Now come let’s get some breakfast.”

Luna smiled and turned to go back inside. Celestia followed her eagerly waiting for the arrival of Twilight Sparkle.

Twilight was pacing back and forth in the train car muttering to herself her wings flared out. She was lucky that Celestia had reserved her a private car or other ponies might have been annoyed by her. This meeting was only for royalty, so he friends had remained in Ponyville. Spike didn’t, he had been her best friend and closest companion for the longest time. He looked over at her from his seat.

“Twilight calm down,” He said holding up her letter “It’s just a meeting.”

“A meeting with royalty Spike!” She said “Equestria’s allies!”

She was panicking and Spike sighed getting up and walking over to her.

“Twilight calm down”

“But-“

“Just listen,” He said putting a claw to her mouth “You can manage this, you’ve literally saved Equestria thousands of times.”

“This is different” She said moving to sit down.

“How?”

“If I mess up…it could lead to war”

Spike rubbed between his eyes with a sigh as he sat next to Twilight.

“If it were that serious, would Celestia have really told you only three days before it?”

“Well…”

“If it was that serious you’d have spent months working with her” He said patting her side “Just calm down.”

Twilight looked back out the window her worries still eating at her. Spike had made her feel a little bit better, but there was still a lot of pressure on her. It hadn’t been long since she’d become a princess and she wasn’t sure what that meant. She wasn’t even a leader, when her friends had worked with her it was a team effort not one pony leading the others. Spike patted her back and she gave him her best smile.

“I just…I don’t know about this…” She said “I wasn’t asked…or given any warning…I just fixed my own mess…now I have to lead, I don’t even know what I’m princess of.”

Spike understood what she was saying but not what she was feeling. When he’d questioned his identity, he’d gone on a quest to meet dragons like him. He didn’t think that it would work for Twilight. Most likely Celestia would have some kind of task or mission for her that would show her the way.

“You’ve got what it takes” He finally said “You’ll figure everything it all out.”

Twilight’s smile widened a big and she moved to nuzzle him.

“Thanks Spike” She said.

“You’re still nervous though”

“Of course,” She said chuckling “But I think I can do this.”

Spike smiled and hugged Twilight knowing that no matter how nervous she was things always worked out.

A small smile spread across the lips of the young woman watching the events in the train car.

“So, the new princess doesn’t think she can handle the crown.” She said looking back at the gray fox curled on her bed.

The fox stood stretching its body out before sitting and regarding her for a moment.

“It’ll be easy to take from her,” She said.

“Definitely” She replied “I’ll get that crown and that element.”

She waved her hand making the image vanish off the surface of her mirror. Sitting down on the edge of the bed she pondered over the plans for that evening.

“Did you get our little gift delivered to the castle, Kuma?” She asked.

The fox nodded and she patted Kuma's head with a light smile. Things would come together perfectly in just a matter of hours.

Author's Note

This is my first attempt at a fanfic and the best I can do is Spellcheck and Paperrater. Go ahead and give me honest reviews. I just wanted to write out the story I've had planned since Season 3.
