A Long Dark Nightmare
A Cold Night
Load Full StoryNightmare Moon’s plan had worked Celestia had been defeated but to set her victory in stone she had to find the Elements of Harmony. Nightmare Moon flew around looking for anywhere they could be. As she flew back to question Celestia, she was met with Celestia wielding the Elements. Nightmare Moon stopped as Luna mentality yelled, “She has the Elements there is no chance.”
Nightmare Moon didn't respond, instead she shot a beam of magic at Celestia who in turn countered. As the rainbow beam coming from Celestia got closer to Nightmare Moon she cried out, “NOOOOOOO.” As the beam completely engulfed her.
Luna knew she was back in control of herself because she could move at her will which was good. As she opened her eyes she seen nothing but blue sky with little snow flakes floating down. The feeling of cold on her back told her she was lying in the snow. She was going to lie for longer but a growl brought her to her hoofs. As she looked around all she saw was tall trees, some bushes and rocks and she noticed she was in a kinda bowl. She once more heard growling, this time it was to her left and she quickly turned to face it. What she saw worried her, it was a wolf but not like any wolves she had seen. This wolf was big as a normal pony and although Luna was still the same size as when she was Nightmare Moon, she knew it could still take her down. She slowly took a step back and got ready to cast a spell but quickly realized her magic was drained and she quickly started looking for anything she could levitate and use as a weapon. As she looked around her, the large wolf let out a haunting howl. Moments later two more wolves had came over the edge of the bowl, luckily they weren't as big as the other one. The leader slowly advanced on her as she kept taking steps back, she was able to see the leader clear enough to tell he a tear in his left ear and a scar down the left side of his face but what would have caused it she had no idea.
Her heart was racing yet she was rapidly getting colder and colder. She glanced behind her quickly and saw a tree with a axe in its side and what seemed to be smoke coming from the over side of the bowl’s edge. A bark forced her to look back at the wolves only to see one of the smaller ones charging her.
She had no time to grab the axe with her magic as the wolf leaped at her, so she did the only thing she could. She brought her head down then up with her long horn pointed at the wolf's chest. As the wolf landed on her, it let out a whimper as her horn pearsted all the way through it's body.
Luna barely stayed standing as the weight of the wolf was added to her head. She quickly threw the lifeless corpse off her horn. She turned and started running as fast as she could grabbing the axe on the way past the tree. As she reached the top of the bowl’s edge she saw a house with white smoke coming out of its chimney. She jumped and tried to fly but only managed to make it halfway to the house before landing, though she put enough distance between her and the wolves to run the rest of the way.
As she made it to the door she turned the knob with her magic, open the door just enough for her to get in then shut it and sat with her back against the door. She could hear the wolves sniffing the door before they walked away.
She looked around the one room house, there was a bed, a chair, a few shelves with some misc stuff on them and one had a long strange device on it, a wood furnace with a cooking top, and a locker. There was two windows one facing the open field she had to run across and the other window was facing the path that led up to the door. She watched the wolves walk down the path and away from the house before doing anything.
Once the wolves were a comfy distance away she looked for something to make a fire with as she was freezing. She found two bundles of wood and loaded them into the furnace then looked for a way to light them. A box with the words ‘Matches, Strike anywhere.’ caught her eye, she levitated them up and slid the inside out of the sleeve revealing twelve little sticks with red tips. She grabbed one with her magic and thought, Hmm strike anywhere what could that mean, oh Celestia why did you do this to me.
She took the red tipped stick and slid the tip against the wood in the furnace and it lit on fire which surprised her causing her to drop it. Luna just watched the little stick burn as the flames slowly spread to the rest of the wood, once it looked like it was burning she closed the front of the furnace and sat down in front of it holding her hoofs up to warm them. By this time it was starting to get dark and Luna had wonder where she was and tried remembering the places she had been and none of them looked like her surroundings.
Luna brought her hoofs to her head and started rubbing it as a voice said, “Just let me take control and we will be fine,”
Luna snapped back with, “No never again you are the reason we are in this mess.” No response but her headache subsided soon after. Luna stood up and walked over to the bed and crawled in. There was a bench next to the bed that had a knife on it which made her feel safer as she drifted off to sleep
