I never thought I'd be giving up my diaries for all to read, so I wrote this to give you some information before you go into my diary, which is like writing to myself; it has references none of you will know, and jokes that will be lost on you. But you should at least know some things I knew before I started writing diaries.
I guess I should start this by telling you who I am. My name is Arn, and often you'd hear 'the helpful' after that. Arn the helpful. I used to be names John, but the name never fit me, so I came up with a different one. At the beginning, I was pale skinned, with graying, slightly curly hair, or mane for you pony folks; graying hair is a sign of stress, and my source was boredom. I had violet eyes, a rarity for humans. I was in the tenth year out of twelve for standard education in the country of your world's equivalent of Neighpon. I was born in your world's equivalent of north Amareica, lived there for seven years before moving to Neighpon.
Now, in my world magic is almost non-existent. I say almost, because if it didn't exist, I wouldn't be here. There are spells aplenty, mystical concoctions and runes so intricate you'd think either a grand magician or a complete madman made them. But almost none of them work, or worked not because of magic, but because of science. To give you some form of how far we got from science alone, we put a man on the moon. Remember, we didn't use magic. We could talk to some one from the other side of the world as if they were next to us, and soar the skies faster then sound. Now, back to those spells.
The only one that did work was also the last one out of around a thousand i've tried. The spell to transport oneself to another world. The day that it happened was anti climactic, no sacred gathering of ingredients, no heavy chanting or sacrifices, no candle lighting or demon summoning, just a very carefully drawn circle and maybe a word or two. I woke up, found the spell, tried it out and it worked. That's all there is to it.
Now, although the events leading up to my arrival were uninteresting, what happened afterward is completely different...
