***Prologue
Game Over***
“RUN RUN RUN!!” The announcer of the game cried out as two teams were taking on each other in the most competitive challenge across the net. The S4 league. Stylish Esper Shooting Sports. The game right now was called ‘touchdown’ mode, where two teams fought to get a Fumbi that was the “ball” and make it to the other team’s goal to score points. Right now, the first team to five points would win the match and the score was tied at three a piece.
“Okay Rebecca, you have two clips for your assault rifle, one bullet left for your sniper rifle, one Earth Bomber , half (50) health left, and two tankers at their base protecting the goal.” She said as she pulled out the Earth Bomber . “Better make it count.” Without a second thought, Rebecca moved from behind the doorway of the building and tossed the bomb at the two shooters defending the goal. “FIRE IN THE HOLE!”
“Incoming, Right side!!” One of her teammates shouted as another player with a sigma crashed on her position.
“Dammit, seriously?” Rebecca slid to the left as she dodged the player’s sigma crusher and countered with a headshot by her assault rifle. “Starting to wish I had a melee weapon instead of long range weapons.”
“Keep running! There’s more coming this way!!”
“I’m starting to regret this plan very much.” Rebecca said as she ran upstairs to place the fumbi in the goal, only for her to take cover from a hail of missiles coming from the entry way. “Dammit, give me a fucking break!” Her teammates kept the pressure on the missile launcher, giving her the chance to make a break for it as she made it in the endzone. “TOUCHDOWN! Who’s that man!? Who’s that man!?” The announcer cried out. The score was now 4-3 and Rebecca’s team was up by one.
“Awesome job Rebecca!” One of her teammates named Ryan shouted out as he gripped his Katana blade before switching to his Semi Rifle. “One more and then this game is ours!”
“Thank god because I’m tired of being a human target.” Rebecca said as she reloaded her assault rifle. “Let’s get this over with so I can switch my gear afterwards.”
“Next round will be starting in… 5… 4… 3… 2… 1...”
“Let’s go!” Ryan yelled, running off towards where the Fumbi would be, going in after it using his anchoring skill.
“Melee players defend Ryan, those with guns or sniper rifles act as long range support!” Rebecca ordered as she switched to her railgun and headshotted a player with a plasma sword heading towards Ryan. Ryan smirked, thanking her with a thumbs up as he slid in and got the Fumbi. It was then though where a few players with a smash rifle and a turret were close to pinning him down.
“I need backup here!” He shouted, trying his best not to get himself shot in the process.
“Doing my best here, but I can’t shoot that well when you’re inside buddy.”
“Right, heading out now!” He replied, strafing to the left as he continued to dodge enemy fire.
“Heavy machine gunner and a rocket launcher are guarding the goal. Hope you have something that can deal with them, because I have my hands full dealing with the others.” Rebecca said as she sniped a player heading towards their base. “And I’m running low on HP at the moment.”
“Oh I might just have the trick.” He smirked, arming himself with an Earth Bomber as he threw it towards the two at the goal. “Alright that worked-!” His words were short lived though as he got shot from behind and turned into 1’s and 0’s
“Pick it up! Pick it up! Get the ball!!”
“Dammit Ryan.” Rebecca said as she moved from behind the wall she was sniping from and rushed over to where Ryan used to be and picked up the fumbi. “I hate being the human target.” She said as she ran towards the goal only to be stopped by two players in front of the opponent’s goal. “Nice outfit, did you get it from some hacker or something?” She teased as she aim her assault rifle at the figure. “Mind moving out of the way? I prefer to get this match over and done with. Unless you wanna do this the hard way?” She asked only for them to charge at her with plasma swords at the ready.
“Guess we’re doing this the hard way then.” Reloading her assault rifle, Rebecca headshotted both attackers as she moved past their disappearing bodies.
“Keep pushing forward!” Ryan said only for Rebecca to roll her eyes in annoyance.
“Yeah, yeah don’t have to tell me twice.” She said as she hopped onto the goal. “And that is how I roll in this game ladies~.”
The game had finally finished. The score was five to three and Rebecca’s team had won. “You win!!”
Lobby)
“Nice pickup Rebecca!” Ryan congratulated her as they went back into the lobby.
“Yeah, we would’ve been toast if we didn’t have you on our team.” Marry said appearing next to her. “How are you this good at this game?”
“Practice Marry, that and it’s not that hard to play it once you get use to it.”
“So what game should we play now?” Paula asked as a screen went up as multiple other players soon left the room.
“How about we change things up, maybe a bit of Chaser before we log off?” Ryan suggested.
“Ugh I hate playing that mode. It’s annoying and I hate having to chase after people in that. Not to mention that I hate getting sniped in the head.”
“What if you are the chaser? Besides, I was only going to limit the player set to four people so you don’t have any hackbots appear out of nowhere and ruin the game.”
“....Fine, but I swear to god if one of you assholes snipe me in the head. Heads will roll once we get back to the real world.” Ryan chuckled, looking back at her as the map that was selected took form. The Chaser map was known as Nightmare, which first arrived with S4 league’s first season named Dark Lightning. Now though, another player had entered the map, but didn’t speak a word as Ryan tried to look up the username.
“Hmm…Nightmare Moon…That’s a weird one if I ever heard of it.” He shrugged, reloading his Semi rifle. “Well, whatever it is, let’s get ready. I’m replacing my Earth Bomber with my Submachine Guns for added firepower.”
“Are you ready!?” The Announcer’s voice boomed and the countdown initiated. “5…4…3…2…1…”
“Here we go…” He said as the third player was selected to be the chaser. What took them by surprise was the shadowy like aura beginning to radiate from her as she stared down at them with a devilish grin. “Okay, seriously, what the hell kind of a chaser is THAT!?”
“Five bucks says it’s a hacker player.”
“Foolish humans…I am not of this…hacker that you see me as. I AM NIGHTMARE MOON!! And this night shall become eternal!” She screamed, as the chaser unleashed hell with a revolver that the player pulled out of nowhere.
“Run!!” Ryan shouted, arming himself with his plasma sword.
“Why? It’s not like we can die in S4 League?” Rebecca said as she pulled out her katana. But that was short lived when she saw Ryan get shot in the shoulder, and blood began to spill outward.
“N-no way…h-how the-!?” Before the player could respond, the chaser appeared in front of him and was impaled in the chest by the bloody dagger that Nightmare Moon was wielding.
“.....Shit. Ryan how long does this match last?” Rebecca asked as she she notice the chaser pull out a heavy machine gun. Rebecca quickly summoned a force field to block Nightmare Moon’s attack.
“Thirty minutes…Bloody hell, I don’t think we can last t-this long…Oh god, it hurts!”
“Marry, get Ryan to a safe place and patch him up. I’ll deal with the bitch until the rounds are up.” Rebecca ordered as she felt the force field weakening. “Hurry up please!”
“On it-!” She said only for her to get sniped in the head before she could carry out Rebecca’s order.
“Shit, Paula. Get Ryan to safety while I deal with this player…..Paula?”
“Rebecca…I hate to break it to you…But we’re the only ones here-” That was when out of nowhere, Rebecca saw Ryan’s chest begin to bleed out as he was stabbed from behind before being cleaved in half by a Scythe as his corpse turned into ones and zeros.
“Y-You son of a bitch!” Rebecca yelled as she unsheathed her katana to attack the chaser, only for it to be parried away her attacks. “You’re gonna pay for what you did to my friends!”
“Hm, weakling.” Nightmare Moon said as she knocked the katana out of her hand. Rebecca had little time to react as she felt one of her hands get sliced off while being pinned against the wall. “Goodbye…player.” She smiled, fully driving the Blood Dagger that the chaser had equipped into her heart as everything faded to black.
