"How does a shut in, friendless, fillyfooler, Equestrian,

alone in the middle of a forgotten spot in Manehatten.

By providence, impoverished, in squalor.

Grow up to be a legend and a scholar?"

Sunset Shimmer drank, and lightly set her glass down to the table. She was at the local bar in the city of Canterlot, it was a bit crowded, but nopony ever went and sat with her. Unbeknownst to Sunset, an orange pony wearing a stetson hat sat on a chair just five tables away from her.

"The 4th Princess, Founding Mother without a mother

got a lot farther, by workin' a lot harder, by bein' a lot smarter,

by bein' a self-starter.

By fourteen, they placed her in charge of a trading charter."

Applejack leaned back and sighed. Beside her, was a prismatic-maned pony laughing at her dragon friend. Rainbow Dash stopped laughing and smirked at Spike.

At an apartment in Trottingham, a light pink pony with moderate persian blue eyes was reading a book on her wooden desk.

"And everyday, while slaves were being slaughtered and carted.

Away across the waves, she struggled but kept her guard up.

Inside she was longing for something to be a part of,

our sister was ready to beg, study, borrow or barter."

Starlight hummed and perked up. She scribbled equations on a paper with a quill. Starlight called out to her lifelong friend, "Sunburst, come here!"

Starlight heard a yelp, knocks, bangs and finally, some hoofsteps. "H-here I am!" Sunburst replied, coming downstairs with his pajamas on. Starlight chuckled at her friend and gestured for Sunburst to come.

"Then a raging storm came and devastation reigned.

Our mare saw her future drip, dripping down the drain.

Put a quill up to her temple, connected it to her brain,

and she wrote her first refrain, a testament to her pain."

Back at the local bar, Sunset Shimmer stood up and went outside, taking a deep breath of fresh air. She smiled and walked. She didn't know where to go, she was just taking a stroll to collect her thoughts.

"Well, the word got around, they said, “This filly is insane, man!”

Took up a collection just to send her to the mainland!

“Get your education, don’t forget from whence you came, and

the world’s gonna know your name! What’s your name, man?”"

Somewhere in Manehattan, a unicorn with a brown coat levitated a bag and trekked towards the train station. A stallion walked to the mare and asked for her name. She was a bit surprised, but smiled and answered.

"My name is--"

"Twilight Sparkle...

My name is Twilight Sparkle.

I lived life for a partial,

but just you wait, just you wait."

On a mansion at Canterlot, three sisters were chatting and laughing together. The eldest, was a white unicorn with a purple mane. The second, was a yellow pony with a pink mane. The youngest, was a pink pony with a pink mane.

Pinkie said, "Hey, Fluttershy! You must know something funny too, right?"

Fluttershy chuckled then replied, "Well yes, you see there was this one time where I..."

"When she was 10 her father split, full of it, debt-ridden.

Two years later, see Twilight and her mother bed-ridden

half-dead, sittin’ in their own sick, the scent thick,

and Twilight got better, but her mother went quick..."

At the castle, there on the throne, sat Princess Celestia. She was signing some papers about requests from cityponies. She let a prolonged sigh and called out to a guard.

"Moved in with her cousin,

the cousin committed suicide.

Left her with nothing but ruined pride,

something new inside.

A thought saying, “Twilight, you got to fend for yourself.”

She started sitting and reading every treatise on the shelves."

Sunset Shimmer kept walking towards the outskirt of Canterlot and stopped. She smiled as the wind lightly blew her mane.

"There would've nothing left to do for a pony less astute.

She would've been dead or destitute,

without a cent of restitution.

Started workin', clerkin' for her late mother's landlord,

trading sugarcane and rum and all the things she can't afford.

Scammin' for every book she can get her hooves on,

planning for the future see her now as she stands on

the bow of a train headed for her new lair.

In Canterlot you can be a new mare!"

Suddenly, a ghost who's features were similar to Sunset's followed Twilight Sparkle to the train. The ghost put up a glare as she saw her enemy. More ghosts materialized, and were all behind Twilight's back, who was oblivious of what is happening.

"In Canterlot you can be a new mare.

Just you wait...

In Canterlot you can be a new mare!

Just you wait...

In Canterlot you can be a new mare. In Canterlot... (Canterlot...)

Just you wait!"

Twilight took a seat and looked at the window. She sighed, and put on a smile. She was finally going to start over.

"Twilight Sparkle, (Twilight Sparkle...)

we are waiting in the wings for you. (Waiting in the wings for you...)

You could never back down, you never learned to take your time!

Oh, Twilight Sparkle. (Twilight Sparkle...)

When Equestria sings for you...

will they know what you overcame?

Will they know you rewrote the game?"

The ghosts sang in unison.

"The world will never be the same... oh..."

Sunset Shimmer decided it was finally time to return to her humble abode. She was about to open the door when she thought she saw a figure on an alley. She turned her head to look at it again, but saw nothing. She hesitated for a moment, before going inside her house, making sure to lock the door.

"The train is on its way now, see if you can spot her.

Another immigrant coming up from the water.

Her enemies destroyed her rep, Equestria forgot her."

Rainbow snoozed loudly, then turned to the other side of her bed. On a room next to hers, Spike couldn't sleep. He covered his ears with a pillow but found it uncomfortable. He groaned, muttering how "Rainbow should stop the loud snoozes."

"We fought with her."

Applejack however, was having a peaceful sleep. She shivered slightly, making her turn to the left. The cause was a ghost who was a teenage mare.

"Me? I died for her."

Celestia was already turning in for the night. It didn't take long for her to sleep, as Luna, her little sister, takes over for the night.

"Me? I trusted her."

The sisters were all asleep. Their rooms had some candles that were put out.

"Me? I loved her."

Sunset Shimmer was twisting and turning on her soft bed, beads of sweat flowing down on her face, despite it being very comfortable, Sunset Shimmer did not have such a good sleep. She woke up very sweaty, her nightmare plastered in to her mind. She remembered a mare wearing glasses raising a gun to the sky. She remembered herself holding out a gun in front of her and pulling the trigger. Sunset gasped, and shook her head. Unfortunately, the mare was far from her and there was a mist, hiding her features. Sunset decided to ignore that for now, and started to go about her daily routine.

"And me, I'm the damn fool who shot her."

It was dawn, and Twilight Sparkle was out of the train. Still oblivious of her non-existent companions.

"I lived for a partial...

but just you wait!"

Sunset Shimmer puffed her chest out. She grinned, and went to her favorite place.

"What's your name, man?"

"Twilight Sparkle!"
