Stepping up to the ordinary two story white house with little flowers in their flower boxes with the morning light became something magical over the last year. The couple that took me in was weary of me at first but by hell they are the sweetest ponies I've had the pleasure of living with. Smiling softly turning the handle of the front door seeing the kitchen light on past the living room shining more light in the bare room holding only two couches and two arm chairs of purple. Not a bad color match to compare to the lighter purple carpet and white walls. Everything seemed to complement everything in the house nicely. Miss Velvet sure knows how to pick neutral colors that don't clash.
"Hey y'all I'm back." Hearing the sounds of breakfast starting and the gentle giggle of the mare I was just thinking of.
"Sorry darling but you just missed Night by a few minutes!~" Chuckling softly knowing that I can never catch that damn stallion in the morning before he heads off to his own work place. "How was work today?" Closing the door gently making my way through the living room to the kitchen.
"Eh, for some reason some stallions wanted to start some trouble with my crew tonight so I had to rough them up a bit." Stepping onto the white tiled kitchen floor seeing Velvet sitting at the small kitchen table with the morning paper plated to the table and her light blue eyes piercing my soul with worry. "I promise no pony got hurt to the point of needing a hospital." Chuckling softly pulling out the wooden chair across from the mare.
"You should be more careful during the night." Rolling my eyes leaning back in the chair hearing the normal moan of protest from the weaker wood.
"Yes ma'am, night I shall be careful in ma'am!" Saluting getting her to giggle behind her light gray hoof. "You know how scary it is that your daughter looks and sounds just like you, only slightly more crazy." Smiling watching her laughter die and a playful fire grow in her eyes. Throwing the paper my way making my laughter fill the room along with hers.
"I know, I still can't believe that she is a princess now and all grown up. Both of my fouls having their own life kind of makes me sad in a way..." Smiling softly watching her fiddle with her hooves deep in thought.
"Hun if it wasn't for you they wouldn't be where they are now, you did a damn good job raising them both. No matter how crazy Twilight is and how much Shinning and I hate each other, you raised them both to be great ponies and leaders." Standing up not looking at the mare making my way out of the kitchen. "Plus I gotta deal with them both tonight! GAH!" Throwing my arms into the air in mock anger getting laughter to fill my ears. "See ya in a hour Velvet." Taking a right in the living room to the flight of stairs leading to the bed rooms and bathroom. Taking my time to climb the stairs listening to the soft stomps of my boots on the carpet and my own heart beat. Mornings like this always spell something bad but for some reason today feels even worse. Sagging my pose reaching the top and making my way to the bathroom. Entering not caring to close the door already peeling off my clothing leaving me in my blue boxers. Flipping on the light seeing nothing but different shades of white in the pony sized room. Leaning on the counter of the sink and staring at the worn out face of a man I grew to hate. His ice blue eyes staring back with shame and hate towards me, his high and roger blonde hair cut reminding me of my past life and the scars adoring my pale white face making those memories pound back in even harder. Pulling my gaze from the mirror kicking on the water waiting for it to get to the perfect temp.
"How have I made it this far?" Shaking my head turning on the shower, sliding out of my boxers getting under the water letting it wash away my worries with a blissful moan. Sighing rather not spending the morning in the shower and starting the quick wash involving the lavender body wash and shampoo. Rinsing off quickly and turning off the water grabbing my towel hanging from the rail I placed above the toilet. Drying off using the towel to cover my lower half and grabbing my dirty clothes heading to the last door on the left. Pushing the door open tossing the clothes to the corner of the room and flopping into the bed in one motion. Closing my eyes feeling sleep hitting me hard and a gentle voice calling my name.
Growling hard seeing this mornings dream being the same as always, the forests of Korea, trying to sneak around after breaking track on my tank. Looking around the bright forest watching for anything out of place listening to the power tools working away while I got the pleasure of pulling security with my M240.
"Come on you son of a bitch!" Hearing metal slamming against metal and soft cheers of the rest of my men. Snapping my view towards the sound of a snapping twig in a rather thick part of the forest getting the hair on my neck stand up.
"Guys?" Silently raising the crew serve weapon to my hip pointing it towards the sound.
"Get those bolts tight and we can head out, driver do a quick look around and see if we can roll out!" Hearing another twig snapping to my right getting my body to swing the heavy weapon towards it.
"Guys hurry up..." Snapping my aim again this time to my right only to hear more sounds coming from all around me.
"El-" Freezing at the crack of a rifle and silence taking over the small world around us.
"CONTACT!" Screaming at the top of my lungs squeezing the trigger sending lead into the forest getting war cries and pain filled cries mixing into the sound of gun fire.
"-Ok? Please wake up!" Groaning softly at the new weight on my back and worry filling the air. "P-please wake up!" Rolling over getting the weight to vanish and a soft eep.
"I'm awake damn it..." Rubbing my eyes sitting up to see the world outside being bright and happy.
"Thank Celestia!" Groaning out to the ceiling feeling the world hating my life.
"Twilight how many times do we have to talk about this?"
"Don't wake you up when you are having nightmares due to the unknown reaction of how you will react to the sudden world..." Chuckling softly at her saying it word for word. "I know but this one seemed really bad... You should really ask Luna for help..." Standing up moving to my dark wooden dresser to grab a set of clothes.
"And as I tell you every time that this is a fact of my life Twi. You know Luna can't handle my dreams like she can a ponies."
"Because you, are reliving a... memory...." Her voice being timid at her answering the question she has been asking me for a year now.
"It was a dark time in my life Twi, that's why me and your brother can't get along. Mine and his view of being a soldier are two different things. Thus we will never see eye to eye for him being such rank and seeing the military in a different light than I did when I was once part of it." Getting dressed with no care in the world thinking about what will happen now that suck a pony sees why I work the way I do. "Your bother is here, better go see him and Cadence." Gasping at my statement and the sounds of hooves pounding on the floor and down the stairs where the soft mumbling of more voices filled the air. "What will happen now?" Chuckling looking at a thick pile of papers on my desk fully filled out and all of my military past laying on the white sheets. "Guess only time will tell." Smiling walking out of the room and towards the family get together happening down below.
Smiling seeing everypony but Night Light in the living room having the time of their lives till the step I was on creaked making everything grow silent and all eyes on me. Seeing different emotions but the white unicorns
