Prelude: Canterlot Asylum
It was around midnight at the Canterlot Mental Asylum. All of the patients had gone to sleep, except one. One who Twilight Sparkle was determined to speak to. One who had a hatred for a family member.
"Hey, you sure about this, Twilight?" An orange pegasus asked the lavender alicorn who was in a lab coat. The alicorn nodded. The question that was asked regarded one of her patients, who was confined in solitary confinement.
"Yes, Flash. I'm positive about speaking with him." Twilight replied to her colleague. Flash sighed. "I know. He's been here for five years and still hasn't shown any progress. I know I'm getting through to him, though." She added. As if on cue, Twilight opened the door to the room, where a dark blue pegasus was sitting on a bed, looking at the wall. His ear twitched and his face made a devilish grin.
"Hello, Twilight." The pegasus spoke, his voice sounding maniacal. Twilight kept a stern face.
"Comet." Twilight replied. Comet turned to face the lavender alicorn. "I assume you know why I'm here." Twilight told him. Comet chuckled, his green eyes flashing their dominant red color. Comet was the son of King Sombra, and as Twilight could see, some of Sombra had passed on to Comet, giving Comet's eyes the ability to flash between their normal green and crimson red.
"What, trying to push more friendship lessons into me, princess?" Comet laughed, trying to get a reaction out of the alicorn. Twilight's face began to twist in anger. "Princess, relax! I'm just messing with you." Comet chuckled, noticing Twilight's facial expression "Although I will admit, you do look kind of hot when you're angry." He added. That did it. Twilight was pissed now. Just as she was about to give him his knockout pills, the next thing she knew, Comet had her pinned against the wall. "Now then, let's make this easy." Comet stated, Twilight trying to escape his grasp. "I'm breaking out, princess, so you and your colleague better not stop me." He told her. The next three words from his mouth haunted her to this very day. "Why so serious?" He whispered in her ear. She gasped, and felt Comet ease his grip on her. He ran for the window, jumping out shattering it completely. He landed gracefully as his wings folded on his back, laughing maniacally. Flash had heard the commotion and burst into the room, where an awe-struck Twilight stood frozen.
"Twilight, what happened?!" He asked. Twilight shook her head and face turned back to a stern expression, followed by a stern voice.
"Flash, sound the alarm. We've got an escaped patient." She ordered. Flash did so, and soon the whole complex was on lock-down. Comet heard the alarms and knew there was no way out through the front gate, as guards were blocking it, setting their spears to stun.
"Damn it. No way out through the gate. Unless......" Comet smirked as he grabbed a gas bomb and threw it behind the other side of the bush he was hiding in. A unicorn guard looked over, before Comet could hear the sounds of him choking and gagging from the gas. The pegasus smirked as he dashed for the gate. he was almost free until a magic blast caught him by surprise and he moved out of its path. More guards had found him, Twilight included. He turned to face them, his expression one of utter insanity. "Not getting me this time, Sparkle!" Comet cackled as he brought out a small device with a big red button. Guards were charging until they saw the device.
"Whoa! Hold it!" The lead guard cried out as Comet laughed, pressing the button. Inside the asylum, two dozen bombs went off, exploding the whole building and killing the patients inside. Twilight was awe-struck, looking at Comet with fear. He saluted her, his eyes their horrifying crimson red color.
"Bon Voyage, Sparkle!!!" The pegasus cackled as he took off to the sky, his laughter echoing. Flash ran up next to Twilight, concerned. He could see the horrified look on Twilight's face, knowing that over 100 innocent ponies had just died before their eyes.
"Twi, what do we do?" He asked her. She gulped and sighed, turning to face Flash.
"Call for Galaxy." She replied to him. He nodded as he headed for Canterlot. Twilight kept looking at the smoldering runins of the Asylum. All her notes, research, projects with her patients, completely gone. She used her magic to lift off her coat, and threw it into the flames, before collapsing to the ground, sobbing that all of her research, even ponies she cared about, gone.......
