Death Unbound: Days Gone By
The Days Gone By
Previous ChapterTwilight arrived at the headquarters, it reminded her very much of a castle, but not the luxurious and crystal ones that the princesses use to reside in, this one reminded Twilight of the darkness that surrounded the world. She could feel the blood that stuck to her coat slowly dry as she approached a group of fast approaching pegasi.
They stopped in front of her, spears in hoof. They were dressed head down in Equestrian Guard armor. Their dark purple armor was reflected from the sunlight, giving them a godly like glow. The intimidation attempt didn't phase Twilight, who simply glared at them. . A few seconds passed before Twilight outright rushed them. They didn't have enough time to react as Twilight used her horn to stab one of their necks. The group stood in shock and fear as Twilight backed up, her horn leaving the now gaping hole in the stallion's neck. Like lightning, Twilight delivered a hard right hook to the pony next to her, the force of the punch breaking their jaw, and rendering them unconscious.
They now were able to comprehend the losses and simultaneously swung, and stabbed at Twilight with their spears. Twilight reacted just fast enough to flap herself into the air. The pegasi followed her, and quickly. Twilight flew higher and higher, she wasn't that fast, and she knew this, she had to mend the fight to where she wanted it. She suddenly stopped, many of them went right passed her. Twilight didn't give them time to realize their mistake, and sent a large blast in their direction. Only a few were able to dodge her attack.
Twilight took the advantage and sent singular beams at the survivors of her previous attack. Twilight simply turned around, seeing the terrified faces of her surviving attackers. She teleported to them, and took the spear from one of their hooves. She quickly shoved it through his body, and turned around, letting the body fall down to the ground.
Twilight quickly turned around and ignited her horn at the mare in front of her. Her neck swung back and let out a sickening crunch as it snapped. She turned to the last two. The were frozen in fear, they were visibly shaking as Twilight stared.
Twilight lowered her stance and turned away from them, “Go. Go now while you can,” they slowly turned away, keeping their eyes on her, before finally bolting away. Twilight started to descend to the ground, when she heard heard a loud crashing. She turned to where she heard it, and saw a long rainbow streak fly into a broken window.
Twilight smiled. Rainbow had gotten out, whatever she had planned, Twilight had to distract the others.
She charged her horn and sent a fireball at the front gate.
Rainbow Dash skidded across the room she had crashed through. As she came to a stop she looked at the bloody green Pegasus she had thrown through the window. Rainbow walked up to her and grabbed her wing. Rainbow dragged her to the door and ordered her to stand. She reluctantly complied, and shakily stood up. Rainbow opened the door, the green pony shakily walked through the door, Rainbow followed shortly after. Rainbow and her prisoner walked down the hallway, to Rainbow’s surprise she hasn't encountered any guards.
‘Were they distracted by my Rainboom?’ she thought. She didn't think it'd be that much of a danger, then again she didn't expect it to nearly disintegrate that base either.
As they went deeper into the base she heard various blasts and explosions. Something was happening. She hoped it was Twilight causing the chaos, it'd make the plan much more easier.
Either way, she was glad that there were no complications. Her plan was to simply find Applebloom and Twilight, and leave. The pony tagging along was originally suppose to die. She was going to send her straight through the fortress, she however had begged for her life, in exchange for information on where Applebloom was.
Even so, the fortress seemed way too quiet, the ominous echoes of the battle kept her on edge, the atmosphere was off too. Something was off.
She mentally prepared herself for any threat that may come, all the while keeping her eye on the mare she’d had kept alive. She knew that the unspoken agreement wouldn't last long. That everything would soon come crashing down, as soon as it was between her and anypony else.
Her concentration broke as she realized there was silence in the base. No screams, explosions, or blasts. Had Twilight died? The thought quickly passed as she knew that Twilight wouldn't go down that easily. Her magical abilities had skyrocketed after the fight with Tirek, it'd take much more to-
A beam flew past Rainbow’s head. She snapped out of her thoughts as she turned around, trying to find where the beam flew from. At the very end of the hall way, there they were. She quickly took after them. The rainbow trail behind her showing off her speed. As she approached she reared up for a punch, but as her fist touched the unicorn she disappeared, almost like she, “Teleported?” Rainbow said out loud as she made a quick turn around, something near impossible in such a tight space.
As she was about to take off again, a voice distracted her, a very familiar one “Rainbow, stop!” Twilight yelled. Her body was covered in blood, lots of which was not hers. Multiple cuts covered her face and chest as well.
“Oh Celestia, Twilight you're alive!” she yelled, before embracing her longtime friend, turned partner in a deep hug, “What happened to you? What did they do?” she asked as she sunk into the embrace, letting the hell from the past few days slip away.
“Nothing that bad until today. I heard them plan to execute me… that was when I managed to break the magic inhibitor on me and broke out. Speaking of which, I take it that loud noise was a rainboom?” She asked, falling into the embrace as well.
“Yea! It was insane, the energy from it completely destroyed the base!” She bragged, her eyes met with Twilight’s. It was the first time they've truly had to themselves since they first got together. They both slowly went in for a kiss. As their lips locked, they heard the the clanging of metal as more of the soldiers came from seemingly nowhere. On the other end of the hallway a group of pegasi were flying as fast as they could at the two. They pulled away and stood next to each other and faced opposite directions. Both of them took their fighting stances, preparing to kill any pony that attacked. As the two forces were about to crash into Twilight and Rainbow a loud and forceful voice yelled, “STOP!”
As the voice commanded, the two groups stopped suddenly, a few mere feet away from Rainbow and Twilight. The pegasi group split into two, as each half went to the opposite wall, revealing the source of the voice.
Both Rainbow and Twilight’s jaw dropped as they saw who it was. The red coat and light orange mane was a dead give away, but it was the green apple cutie mark that gave the identity away.
“Bi-Big Mac?” Twilight stuttered, she couldn't believe it.
“Yo-you're alive?” Rainbow asked, in the same state of shock as Twilight.
“Yeeeup,”
They couldn't believe it. The last time they saw him he was saving them from a group of infected, they thought he died.
“How d-did you-” Rainbow was cut off, Big Mac knew the question.
“Live? While you were running away, pretty much leaving me to die, a group of infected started coming through the windows. So I ran through the ones I was blocking. I’m surprised I wasn't bitten. For the record, next time you assume some ponies dead make sure there's a body first!” Big Mac started to yell, his eyes narrowed as he stared at Twilight and Rainbow, the hatred practically spilling out of his body.
Fear grew in the couple, Twilight was near frozen, her previous cockiness was shattered. Rainbow, however wasn't done, “We did go back! You were gone! We thought you died and had turned!”
“Why didn't you look more? I was alive!” He took a step closer to them.
“The entire town was being over run! There were infected everywhere! We had to get out of there! Would you rather us all had died?”
“Not then. But now, both of you will. Applebloom is the only one that matters to me now.” He said flatly, taking another step forwards.
“We were the ones who kept her alive,” Twilight blurted out, “Without us, she'd be long gone. Even if you do kill us, how would you explain it to Applebloom? Tell her that we attacked you? She knows us better than that, she'll see you no better than a serial killer!”
Big Mac’s eyes flared with rage. He now took rapid steps towards them, “NO! They'll see you as the ponies who stabbed her brother!” A magic aura surrounded Twilight and Rainbow, freezing them in place. Big Mac grabbed her head and pointed her horn at his chest. He then moved into it. It pierced his chest, letting a slight flow of blood to come out of the wound. He smiled, “I got to let Applebloom know of your arrival!” he laughed, his mind very much broken, “Take them into the execution room! I'll meet you there!”
Applebloom heard yelling in the distance, ‘'What's goin on?’ she thought. She was told to wait for Big Mac, but something was wrong. Just a few minutes ago there was fighting underneath her, and then now there was nothing.
She attempted to open the door, expecting to be stopped by guards, but nopony was there. She slowly walked through it. She looked around, the entire area was empty. An eerie silence surrounded her as she walked through the empty hallways. In the distance she heard the *clop clop* sound of hooves, fear ran over Applebloom as she ran. She zig zagged through the halls, trying to get as far away from them as possible. At the end of the hallway there was a door, she rushed there and opened the door. In a panic she rushed inside and closed the door.
She breathed slower, trying to let her body relax as she turned around. Her eyes widened.as she saw the the contents. Weapons. Swords and axes lined the wall, underneath were various spears and bows. In the boxes underneath, were knives, clubs, hammers, and the list went on.
She wondered why the door was left unattended, much less unlocked, as she walked throughout the room, looking at the various types. Her eyes locked on a saddlebag, more specifically, Twilight’s saddlebag. The glow of her cutie mark badge shimmering on the few bits of light in the room.
She picked the saddlebag up, as she put it on she grabbed a spear. Very cautiously she walked out of the room. As she did she heard more yelling, but this time it was closer, and much more defined. It sounded evil, almost demonic. She slowly walked closer and closer to the source of the voice, her spear kept ready in her hoof. She finally approached the source of the voice, ‘A vent?’ she thought.
She sighed, and pulled the vent open. She simply walked inside, the vent was much bigger than her. She walked slowly, trying to avoid making as much noise as she could. She heard the voice amplifying as she went further into the vent. The voice was now much more recognizable. It was Big Mac. She now started running through the vent, until finally it hit the peak. There was another opening this time looking down on a large auditorium.
“So you're telling me that you don't know where she is?” Big Mac asked, his voice echoing the anger he felt.
“We didn't do anything to her. If she wasn't there, she made the choice herself,” Twilight said in a firm voice. She and Rainbow were held at axe point by Big Mac.
“Don't bullshit me. She wouldn't just leave like that.”
“Maybe she realized the pony you've turned into!” Rainbow said aggressively.
“Or maybe she just came to find her brother. I would gladly be with my brother than some damn near random ponies!” Grayfield mocked, the same insane smile stretching his face.
Big Mac slowly raised his axe, “I don't have time for this shi-” A spear came down, striking one of the ponies standing next to Twilight.
Applebloom looked down in shock, she hasn't expected to it anything.
Down on the ground Twilight expelled a shockwave from her horn, knocking back Big Mac and the ponies guarding him, and knocking their weapons out of their hooves.
Rainbow scurried to the axe and grabbed it. In the second it took to grab it Big Mac came back and delivered a hard uppercut to Rainbow. Still holding the axe she swung it, it collided with Big Mac’s front right leg. He kneeled, and Rainbow punched him in the nose, and with that he finally fell.
Twilight was fighting her own militia, as pony after pony came after her. One by one she delivered the killing blow or stab to them. Many of them were still too shocked to move.
Courage rose up in Applebloom and she jumped. She landed onto one of the ascended Pegasus. In shock they started to lose control. The Pegasus crashed into the ground with a thud. Applebloom ran over to Twilight and Rainbow Dash, catching the questioning looks of the ponies they were fighting.
Bluefield, finally gaining the courage to fight, shot a few bolts at Twilight. Managing to deflect them, Twilight sent several at him, Blue sent several of his own, many of them colliding with Twilight’s midair. Before Blue could send more Twilight, with a burst of speed from her wings, tackled him. Pushing him to the ground, Bluefield found himself overpowered as Twilight pinned him, that was before he swung his head forward, his horn penetrating Twilight’s chest.
She gasped in pain, and Bluefield launched Twilight off of him with a spell. Struggling to get up, Bluefield proceeded to kick Twilight in the stomach. The breaking of her ribs could be heard throughout the room as Bluefield delivered kick after kick. Twilight, who was losing strength quickly, sent one last beam at Bluefield. It hit him in the neck, Twilight saw this and quickly scrambled to get up. Still in pain, she sent multiple beams out. They pierced multiple areas in Blue’s body. Piercing his chest, legs, and neck. Bluefield stood still for a second before dropping to the ground.
Twilight walked up to him, only to see that he was just barely alive, his breathing was a barely audible squeaking as he lay on the ground, “You know… it seems like you've fucked with the wrong ponies!” Twilight, hate and pain echoing through her voice, said before sending a beam through his head, stopping ending the fight that had started all too long ago.
Big Mac, who was gained consciousness once more, stood up. His vision was blurred, his previous blood loss stacking up on top of the new one from his nearly torn off leg, bits of bone and muscle just barely keeping it on. He turned to Rainbow Dash, who was guarding Applebloom. His mind didn't register anything for the safety of his, and all he could think to do was to kill Rainbow. His anger and insanity blocked the pain from his leg as he launched himself at Rainbow.
Rainbow, who was fighting one of Big Mac’s men, didn't see him come up on her, and deliver a hard punch to her face. Stunned, Rainbow backed up and her knees buckled. Big Mac room advantage of this, and with his one front leg, picked Rainbow up and slammed her on the ground, knocking the wind out of her.
Applebloom screamed at her brother to stop. She couldn't believe what was happening, her brother and her caretakers were at it, trying very much to kill each other.
Very suddenly, Big Mac grabbed Rainbow’s hoof, and threw her. Applevloom, who was still freaking out, didn't realize Rainbow coming towards her. Applebloom was clipped by Rainbow Dash, knocking her to the ground. The saddlebag flew off her, many of its contents flying out.
Twilight saw this and send a bolt at Big Mac, and then attempted to tackle him. He didn't even move as Twilight collided into him. Big Mac picked her up by the neck, and slammed her back first into the ground. Twilight pit her hoof up, trying to keep Big Mac from crushing her neck.
Applebloom saw this and struggled to get up. She looked back at Rainbow, who was out cold against the wall. She wanted to stop this, she wanted to help, but she knew that she couldn't. She didn't want either one of them to die, but she knew that one had to. As she stared at them her eyes fell upon a knife that fell out of Twilight’s saddlebag. It was the same knife she grabbed for Twilight when they were attacked. A dark thought entered her mind, however she started crying at the thought of it. She walked slowly and picked it up, it was between Twilight, the pony who kept her alive in Equestria’s. darkest time, or her brother. Tears flowed from her eyes as Twilight slowly started to grow weaker. Applebloom just cried, the choices started to break Applebloom’s mind, she couldn't choose.
It worked it's way around Applebloom’s mind, her young mind. It slowly started to crack just as Twilight’s neck was. It was a desperate decision, but Applebloom made it. She jumped up onto Big Mac’s back and drove the knife into it. He loosened his grip on Twilight, who started to cough up blood after being released. Big Mac bucked and bucked, trying to kick Applebloom off, but with no success. Applebloom drove the knife into him over and over, striking his back and his neck time after time again. Ad the blood spurted out of Big Mac, Applebloom just kept crying. With each stab Big Mac’s bucks grew weaker and weaker, his strength draining from the extreme loss of blood, until he finally collapsed into the ground. Even after he fell Applebloom pressed on, this time, having an easier time hitting his chest. Again and again, the emotions spewed out of Applebloom, just like the life fluid from Big Mac, her assault only stopped once she stabbed once more, this time hitting his heart. With that, his breathing finally stopped, and the darkness of death took him.
Twilight finally regained composure, however just barely managing to walk over to Applebloom. She gently pushed Applebloom away from the massacred body of her brother and to Rainbow.
The other Python members only stared. They were afraid, and they couldn't believe it, their leader was dead.
Twilight generated the last bits of energy she had, and zapped Rainbow. She awoke with a gasp, while Twilight collapsed from exhaustion. Rainbow, whose senses finally returned, helped Twilight up, keeping her from falling, with her hoof. Rainbow tried to fly, but the pain in her chest was too much. She fell down, hurting her ribs more.
Holding Twilight up, she walked towards the door, but was blocked by two ponies in Royal Guard armor. Rainbow Dash let Twilight down, and grabbed the knife previously use on Big Mac. The guards reared up, preparing to attack, “St-”
“Leave them, they already won. Besides, they can't even fight back. Just leave them.. ,” a blue Pegasus ran between Rainbow and the guards. The two ponies reluctantly complied and lowered their spears and moved out of the way.
They walked through the blood soaked hallways. Bodies lined the walls, Rainbow couldn't believe the bloodshed that Twilight had caused. Applebloom however didn't care. Tears still rolled down her cheeks, but other than that she had a still face. Walking out of the broken fortress, Rainbow walked out, seeing the damage done to it. Fires were ablaze, and multiple holes were blatantly seen, some with fire coming out. A few bodies were even outside, Rainbow Dash counted a dozen pegasi.
As they walked away from the fortress all their worries left them, but in the distance, a large green cloud was approaching the fallen fortress.
