Breaking Into A Rock Solid Heart
Don't Touch Holder's Boulder
Load Full StoryNext ChapterYou opened your eyes slowly. Something had woken you. It sounded like shouting. You closed your eyes. There it was again. You focused your hearing on it. Someone was shouting about what sounded like “Holder’s Boulder.” You didn’t know what a Holder’s Boulder was, so you ignored it.
“HEY! YOU! GET OFF THE BOULDER! FOR THE LOVE OF CELESTIA, ARE YOU DEAF?!” Your eyes opened again. You sat up, and came to a sudden realization. You were sitting on a giant rock, in the middle of nowhere, with what appeared to be a pony shouting its ass off at you.
“What the hell?!” you shouted, realize that the boulder was a good thirty feet off the ground. “Where am I?!” you shouted.
“YOU’RE GOING TO BE DEAD IF YOU DON’T GET OFF THAT ROCK!!” shouted the pony. You got a closer look at the creature. She was dark gray, with a hint of dark blue. She had short gray hair, and a face that gave the Joker a run for his money.
“I can’t get down! I’ll fall!” you yelled. You could hear the pony sigh.
“For the love of...” she muttered, walking towards the base of the boulder.
“Slide down, I’ll catch you!!” she ordered.
“But, I’m like, twice your size!” you said.
“SLIDE DOWN ALREADY!” she shouted. You gulped, and slide down the rock. You landed on the pony’s back with a loud THUMP!
“Ow.” you said.
“Oh shut up, and get off me!” barked the pony. You stood up, at about twice her height. She looked at you, at what looked to be in anger, with a hint of curiosity. “Who the hay are you? And why were you on Holder’s Boulder?” she demanded.
“I’m Anon. And as far as your, umm… Boulder is concerned, I don’t know. I just woke up there.” The pony sighed.
“My name is Limestone. Limestone Pie. And you should be obliged to know that I’m the boss of this rock farm, so you do as I say!” she said. You thought it best not to argue.
You followed Limestone, per her order, back to her home. The house was about the size of a normal house, except the doorways were a little smaller.
“So, are you the only one here?” you asked.
“No. I have three sisters. Two of them live here. One lives a few hours a way. They’re not home right now.” she said, opening the front door to the house. You followed her in.
“Where am I exactly?” you inquired. Limestone stopped, and turned to face you.
“You’re in Equestria. The Pie Family Rockfarm to be exact. I don’t know what you are, or were you’re from, so perhaps you’d like to fill me in.” she said, sitting in front of you. You clapped your hands together.
“Okay, well. I’m a human. I don’t believe I’m from this world. I’m from a planet called Earth. And as to how I got here, I have no idea.” you finished.
Limestone stared at you with her yellow eyes. Her eyelashes looked as sharp as blades. You shuddered.
“Well, it sounds like you have no way home. So, tell you what. You help on the farm, and I’ll provide you living quarters and food. But, don’t, I say, DON’T. TOUCH. THE. BOULDER. AGAIN. I’ll cut you slack this time, because you didn’t know. But, touch it again, and I’ll kick you out on your hide so fast you’ll never know what hit you.” she stated. You nodded.
“Sounds good to me. Thank you.”
As you finished the conversation, the front door opened, and another pony walked in. Gray, with a dark blue dress, and purple hair. She had no visible expression on her face, not even when she saw you.
“Maud. Come over here and meet our newest employee.” Limestone said. The new pony walked over to you, and looked at you.
“I’m Maud Pie. What is your name?” she asked. She had a monotone, but pretty, voice.
“I’m Anon. Nice to meet you Maud.” You put out your hand, and Maud backed away slightly, and stared at it. Realizing your mistake, you retracted your hand.
“Sorry. Custom from my world.” you said, blushing. Maud Pie said nothing.
“Maud, where is Marble?” Limestone asked.
“Last I saw her, she was with Big Mac.” Maud replied. Limestone rolled her eyes.
“Okay, well then, she probably won’t be here until tomorrow morning.” she turned to you.
“Anon, it’s time to start work. Follow us, and we’ll show you how things work around here.” Limestone said. You followed the two ponies out the door. They took you over to a huge pile of rocks.
“These go in the cart over there.” Maud said, pointing to an empty wooden cart.
“For now, this will be your job.” Limestone said. You put your hands around the largest rock, and picked it up with a grunt. You carried it over to the cart, and gently dropped it in the cart. You heard a small sigh behind you. You turned to face Maud and Limestone.
“Like that?” you asked.
“Umm, y-yeah. Just like t-that. Was that heavy for you?” Limestone asked. You shrugged.
“Not really.” You heard Limestone whimper.
“Well, we h-have the heavier rocks, over there.” Limestone said, pointing to a pile of rocks bigger than the ponies themselves.
“Try one.” Maud said.
You put your hands around the large rock, and picked it up. It was heavier than the previous rock, but it wasn’t impossible. You hauled it over to the cart, and dumped it in.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.” You heard someone whisper. You looked back at Limestone and Maud again. Maud Pie looked unphazed, but Limestone looked uncomfortable. Her face was a light shade of red, and she was avoiding eye-contact with you. It was then you made a grave mistake.
“Limey, are you okay?” you asked. Maud gasped. Limestone’s eye twitched. She looked at you.
“What did you call me?” she growled. You realized what you had done.
“Oh god, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean...” Limestone motioned for you to stop talking.
“Nopony, and I mean NOPONY, calls me Limey!” she began walking towards you, never looking away from your face. You began backing up, unsure as to why you felt so threatened by a creature half your size.
“The last pony that called me Limey was...”
“Limestone.” Maud Pie cut Limestone off. Limestone tore her fiery gaze away from you, and glared at Maud. “He didn’t know.” Maud said. Limestone said nothing for a moment, then sighed.
“Anon, you have a lot to learn about the rules around here. The first and second most important rule around here is don’t touch Holder’s Boulder, and don’t call me Limey!” Limestone said. You gulped, and nodded.
“Understood.”
After hours of moving rocks, Maud Pie told you it was time for dinner.
“What’s the grub?” you asked, walking beside her back the the house.
“Rocks, with a side of ground up rock salt, and mineral water.” Maud said. You thought she was joking, but after one look at her still unchanged expression, you realized Maud wasn’t the comedy type. You finished the walk back to the house in silence.
When you arrived at the house, there were two other ponies there that you hadn’t seen before.
“Greetings Anon. Thou may call me Igneous Rock Pie. My wife may be called Cloudy Quartz Pie. How was it you came to be on our farm?” asked the yellow-brown pony wearing a hat. The light gray pony standing next to him, whom you assumed was Cloudy Quartz, said nothing. You smiled.
“My salutations Igneous and Cloudy. I express my gratitude for thou’s friendliness Sir and Ma’am.” you said, bowing slightly. Igneous and Cloudy looked at each other, then Cloudy smiled.
“We are pleased thou try to speak as we do, but it is not needed. We have come from a different place. Speak as you would to our citizens.” Cloudy said, smiling up at you. You blushed.
“OK. Thank you, Cloudy.” you said.
You were led to the dinner table, and seated between Limestone and Cloudy. A plate was set in front of you by Maud. She wasn’t kidding. On the plate was a rock, with ground up rock next to it, and a glass of water. You decided you weren’t hungry. As the others began to eat, Limestone took notice of your hesitation.
“What’s wrong Anon? Not hungry?” she asked, a concerned tone in her voice that seemed unusual coming from her.
“Not really. I’m not really built to eat… rocks. My apologies.” you said. Limestone continued looking at you with her big, yellow eyes. They were quite pretty, you noticed. Suddenly, she started to blush, then looked away. You took no notice, and waited for the others to finish their meal.
“Anon, tomorrow is my day off. Why don’t I take you into town so we can get some food you’re capable of eating.” Limestone suggested, curling a strand of her hair around her hoof.
“That’s sound good. Thank you, Limestone.” you said.
“N-no problem.” Limestone whispered.
After dinner, all the ponies were getting ready for bed.
“Anon, we don’t have any spare beds. Marble and I usually share a bed, but since she’s gone, you’ll have to sleep in her place. If that’s alright with you.” Limestone said. You shrugged.
“Fine with me. You sure you won’t mind sharing your bed with me?” Limestone was blushing fiercely.
“It’s f-fine. Now shut up and get ready for bed.” she ordered, briskly walking into the other room. It was then you realized you had no other clothes, or pajamas, for that matter.
After deciding to just sleep with your shirt off, you lay down in bed, and stared at the ceiling. What had you done to get yourself put into this world, called Equestria. You realized though, that it wasn’t all that bad. Back on Earth, your life kind of sucked. Both parents dead, dead end job, not many friends. Some might say Equestria was an improvement.
You were jostled from your thoughts as Limestone entered the room. You’re jaw dropped slightly. She had her hair let down slightly, and had her eye-lash extension’s were gone.
“Wow.” you said. Limestone stopped.
“What?” she asked. You sat up, and smiled, letting the sheets fall off of you. Limestone noticed your chest muscles, and whimpered slightly.
“What’s wrong?” she repeated.
“Nothing! You just look different, that’s all!” you said.
“What do you mean? Different how?” she asked, looking at her body.
“Well, you’re hair is a little longer, and your eye-lash extensions are gone. You look pretty.” you admitted.
Limestone blushed. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Nopony had ever called her pretty before, or even cute! She didn’t know how to respond.
“Uh, thanks Anon. You look, um, handsome.” she said, getting into bed next to you. You laughed.
“Me? Handsome? I don’t even have a shirt on.” you said. Limestone almost smiled.
“I don’t know if you’ve noticed Anon, but most ponies, excluding Maud, and my parents, don’t wear clothes most of the time.” she said. You thought to yourself. To be honest, you hadn’t really given it any thought. You sighed to yourself, and lay on your side, facing Limestone. She did the same, facing you. You gazed at each other for a while, the Limestone broke the silence.
“Anon, you don’t have to answer this if you don’t want to, but back on your world… did you have… mates?” she asked hesitantly. You were somewhat startled by the question.
“OK, wow. Um, yeah, we have mates. Males, females, marriage, all that. I’ve never had one thought. Girlfriend, or wife. I’ve never really been an interest for girls.” you admitted. Limestone looked surprised.
“Really? What do girls on your world look for in a man?” Limestone asked, beginning to blush. You lay there for a moment, a few thoughts going through your mind.
“I don’t really want to talk about this anymore.” you finally said. Limestone nodded.
“Okay.” she whispered. After a moment, she spoke again. “I’m sorry.” she said. You’re eye’s nearly popped out of your head.
“Sorry for what?” you asked. Limestone sighed.
“I know I come across as a mean, tough, all the time angry pony. But, if I’m honest Anon, I’m scared. Running a rock farm is hard. It’s not very rewarding, money wise, and it’s a lot of hard work.” she paused, then continued. “Promise me you won’t tell anyone this?” she asked. You nodded.
“S-sometime’s I cry myself to sleep at night, worrying about what would happen if I lost this farm. I don’t know what else I would do. So I’m sorry for coming across to you as mean.” she said, her eyes tearing up a little. You reached out, and stroked Limestone’s mane.
“Limestone, it’s okay. I never thought you were mean. I know what you’re going through. I’ve been putting on a front all day that I’m fine with being randomly forced into this world, but deep down, I don’t know what the hell is going on!” you say. Limestone looks at you for a long time.
“Thanks Anon. You’re sweet.” Limestone finally says. She leans towards you, and gives you a little kiss on your nose. You were surprised.
“Good night, Limestone.” you say, closing your eyes.
“Good night, Anon.” she said, turning over.
