The First and Only Chapter
“Ow!” Fluttershy gazed down at the object that had just hit her on the head. The rectangular, shiny black thing looked back.
“H-Hello?” Fluttershy asked, tentatively reaching out to poke the surface. Nothing happened. Her confidence growing, the pegasus moved closer. She noticed an odd rectangle sticking out of the side of the object. Fluttershy quickly pressed it. Frowning, she pushed it all the way back. The iPhone’s screen lit up white.
“Eep!” The mare jumped back. Hiding behind her mane, she watched the offending object from a distance. The screen glowed white, then a picture of the sea appeared. Fluttershy slowly walked back up to the device. The ocean wave on it comforted her, though it was confusing. She didn’t know why the picture appeared- it must have been because she touched that thing on the side. Suddenly, the words swipe to unlock appeared on the bottom of the screen.
“Oh, okay,” Fluttershy murmured. “I guess it wants me to swipe? Hm-” She tried a quick slide of her hoof across the screen. Nothing happened. Curiously, the mare tried again. However, her hoof simply slid off the glass screen.
“Maybe this is a magic thing? I should go see Twilight- she’ll know what to do,” Fluttershy concluded. Surely, this new thing was for unicorns, and that’s why she’d never seen it before.
“Twilight!” Fluttershy gasped, having run all the way to the castle. “Twilight?”
The alicorn flushed. Hiding the cake and scroll behind her back, she turned to face her friend.
“Fluttershy! I-I wasn’t expecting visitors! Is everything alright?” Twilight asked hurriedly.
“Yes, of course!” Fluttershy replied. “This thing hit me on the head this morning and I’ve never seen it before. I thought it must be something for unicorns - do you know what it is?” She asked, holding the phone out to Twilight, whose wings flared open at the new discovery.
“Omigosh omigosh! I’ve seen these before but never here!” Twilight shrieked excitedly. “Where did you find it? When? Was it turned on before? How did yo-”
“Um, Twilight?” Fluttershy cut in. “What did you mean, you’ve seen it before? Could you tell me what it is?”
“Remember when I went into another dimension and won Princess of the Fall Formal and convinced an evil unicorn to not destroy Equestria and taught five others the magic of friendship?”
“Um, yes…”
“The hum- CREATURES used these!” Twilight exclaimed, mentally kicking herself for almost destroying the space-time continuum. “How how HOW did you get your hooves on one?”
“Well it just kind of hit me on the head-”
“AMAZING!” Twilight interrupted. “I have to tell Princess Celestia right away! SPIKE!” She galloped off.
“Um, okay…” Fluttershy whispered, alone in the castle. “But um… you never told me what it is…”
