Just a Typical Friday
"Rise and shine my dude, we're here." I hear someone say as I'm shaken awake. Cracking my eyes open, I look over to my long time friend Alex sitting next to me. Looking around, I see that my friend found a parking spot just outside the rather large building where this year's Rooster Teeth Expo is being held. Opening the passenger door and stepping out, I stretch out my stiff muscles. Note to self, cars make terrible substitutes for a bed. We open up the back doors of the car and gather up our stuff. I strap on my plastic chest plate before slipping on my dark red fur-lined jacket, then I strap on my plastic gauntlet onto my left arm, and the final touch, a tattered scarf around my neck. With my costume in order, I reach into the back seat and pull out my hand crafted prop, a meaty looking sword. Taking a quick look at my friend, I see that he also has his costume in order; a neon blue pullover hooding with a white long coat over it, white slacks and black combat boots, and a platinum white wig over his short brown hair with some cheap headphones around his neck.
"Okay, are we good to go?" I ask while slinging my prop over my shoulder to rest on my back. He gives me a thumbs up, so we close up the car and lock it up before beginning our walk to the expo with what I can only imagine as big goofy ass smiles on our faces.
Inside, I'm left speechless by how packed this place is. All around me I see people both in really cool costumes or just dressed in casual wear.
So, after we had lunch at this nice fast food joint on the second floor, we went back to the main area of the RTX and did some roaming of our own. We checked out some of the panels and browsed some of the many booths, though nothing really caught my eye except for a few cute girls dressed up in some sexy costumes. As we continue to roam around, posing for a few pictures here and there, I spot a little shop out of the corner or my eye. Had I not been looking around, I would have never noticed this shop which the name of was "Remnant Wares." according to the store sign out front.
"Hey." I say, stopping my friend with a hand on the shoulder and pointing out the shop, " Wanna check out that place?"
"Sure why not." he replies with a shrug of his shoulders.
We walk over and enter the shop to find it filled with a wide arrange of merchandise, things like replicas from the show, iconic items, and even RWBY themed shirts and accessories. The crazy thing about this place was the high quality of the replicas and such, to your average consumer they would probably look like the real deal.
"Welcome Hunters." I hear someone say which draws my attention to the counter towards the back of the store where the presumed store owner is standing behind the counter dressed in a black hoodie with the hood drawn over his head and a plain looking grimm mask concealing his face except for his toothy smile.
My buddy walks around to look at the merchandise, picking up some of the display items to better examine them, and ask about prices.
"Everything is negotiable, within reason." the store clerk say without missing a beat.
My friend picks up a phone case that looks like a scroll from the show and brings it over to the shop clerk to ask about the price. So, I do a bit of browsing myself and notice a selection of grimm mask handing on one of the walls. Looking them over, one catches my eye towards the bottom of the wall display, too small to be a mask per say. A Visor like piece that's dark gray instead of the usual white with neon red markings like tribal war paint, and the overall shape looked similar to a kitsune mask but with a grimm style to it. Picking up the mask/visor, I bring it with me over to the counter where my friend is chatting with the store clerk, where I see what all he's buying which is a pair of what look like fairly expensive headphones.
"Ah damn, I'm short ten bucks." I overhear my friend say after he pulls out what looks like 35 dollars from his wallet.
"Don't sweat it man, I've got you." I say while pulling out ten bucks and placing the mask on the counter where the clerk seems to perk up suddenly.
"Oh, a man with a keen eye I see. That's our Fox Demon of the Ash series of mask." he explains while looking over our items with a hand to his chin, "Tell you what. Normally the mask sells for 265 and the headphones sell for 400, but I'll make you a deal and sell you both together for 60 with the phone cases added free of charge."
"I'm down with that." my friend replies with a laugh and I nod my head in agreement while we both pull out 30 bucks. The store clerk happily takes the money and we take our newly purchased items. As we make our way to the store entrance to leave, I slip on my new mask to find that it's surprisingly comfortable and hardly obstructs my vision in the least. Before we can step out of the store, a dizzying feeling suddenly hits me out of no where causing my legs to buckle as I feel my friend grab my arm before I could fall onto my face. I feel his grip slip away as I see him fall to his hands and knees while I collapse to the ground, my vision begins to rapidly darken around the edges and I hear one final thing.
"Good luck fair hunters."
Author's Note
Well here it is, my first displace story. If you like it then give it a thumps up and add it to your favorites, if you don't like it then tell me what you didn't like. I'll accept any and all constructive criticism 'cause I can't improve if I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Now don't expect daily updates, since I can't keep to a schedule to save my life, but I'll never leave a story half finished so there's that. And a big thanks to my best friend for helping me out with this and joining me on this crazy adventure.
