**Compound Birth: A baby can be born with a hand alongside its head, although the process is usually slow.  Often however, something happens to make the baby move its hand or arm back, and then the baby is born very quickly thereafter.  Very painful position, but resolves more easily than some of the others.

*** Posterior:  The diameter of the head that must fit through first is larger, and many posterior babies have their heads de-flexed (chins not tucked under, or 'military position'), which creates an even larger diameter. This often makes for a much more difficult, slow, and painful birth.
