Author's Note
This is my little story I made in like a few hours. I'll admit, it kind of sucks, but I hope you find at least some "enjoyment" in this. I apologise if you don't enjoy this. This story was slightly inspired by the death of Peg Entwistle, an actor who committed suicide by jumping of the "H" of the "Hollywood" sign on the 16th of September, 1932. May her soul rest in peace.
The End.
A stallion was trotting through the base of the infamous Mount Everhoof. He wore a brown trench coat, a fluffy aviator hat, and an orange scarf. He wore a saddle bag filled with the items he would need for this "short journey" at the base of Mount Everhoof. He wasn't actually going to the peak, though.
He walked for some while, while Celestia's radiant sun glowing in the frozen, barren wasteland. The snow at the bottom of his hooves was giving him the shivers. He rubbed his hooves together.
"Brrr, it's cold out here," he said to himself.
His gaze returned to the peak of the mountain.
He looked at a slope, and what looked like a pony shaped figure was lying down.
"What?" He said.
He walked to the pony who was laying. His running pace grew faster as he checked out the laying pony.
What he looked at when he arrived...
"Sweet Celestia..."
He looked at the body of the earth pony mare on the ground. Her body convulsed, and her eyes were still moving. Her coat was a dark purple, and her mane was black. He noticed that there was a purple bag beside her.
"Oh my gosh, are you okay?" He asked her. He knew that she obviously wasn't.
The mangled pony's eyes diverted to his own.
"H-hello stranger..." She said. She had no idea who this pony was, however, he would be her last companion. The last pony in her life.
"Do you need help?" He said. He did not want or need an answer, and he immediately went for his saddlebag, however, she intervened.
"N-no need for that," she said.
The stallion twisted around with the speed of lightning, and he shot her an incredulous look.
"You need help!" he yelled with wide eyes.
The mare disagreed.
"M-my f-friend," she said. "L-listen to me," she added.
The stallion set things aside and decided to listen.
"I-It's too late for me," she said.
The stallion grew more worried by the second.
"Y-your my last friend in this f-forsaken world," she said.
The stallion sat down, taking out his medkit from his bag. The mare did not intervene this time, and she let him put some bandages all over the wound on her body. She kept talking as he tried his best to heal her.
"I-In this w-world full of joy and hate, good and bad, pleasure and suffering, and so much m-more."
The stallion continued to bandage her body, and he noticed that one of her legs was bent.
"Y-y-you’re m-my l-last... friend."
The stallion was trying his absolute hardest, but he could not heal her.
The mare pulled him down with her hoof, and she grunted in pain.
"D-do not try to heal me," she said.
The stallion shook his head.
"N-no! I have to! I can't leave you like this!" He went back and scurried to his medkit.
"T-there has to be something!" He was desperate now.
The mare, ironically enough, comforted him.
"T-t-there th-there," she spat out.
The stallion threw the medkit, convinced it would be no use. He or she can't teleport out of here.
He slowly trotted back to his intimate.
"I... can't do anything," the stallion said. His eyes started to water a little bit.
"T-t-there there," the mare repeated.
The stallion wiped his eyes.
"I-It's all g-going t-to be f-fine," she spurted out.
The stallion slowly shook his head.
"No it's not," he flatly stated.
The mare was starting to black out, and she knew her time in Equestria was short.
"I-If y-you l-look at m-my bag, y-you'll s-see a n-note," she said. He looked at the bag beside her.
She was starting to go unconscious, and she knew the end of her time in this world is near.
"M-my f-friend," she said.
He looked back at her.
"M-my time is u-up," she spewed up.
He listened intently.
"R-read t-the paper," she commanded.
The stallion stood absolutely still, like the ice of the mountain that's beside him.
"I-I want to tell you o-one m-more thing," her voice was soft and fragile now.
He moved closer to her. He had never concentrated on somepony with this much focus.
"Y-you'll always be m-my... friend..."
Her eyes started to roll at the back of her head, and she no longer spoke. Her muscles convulsed for a few more seconds, before completely relaxing.
The stallion stared at silence, and he knew the last words of a dying pony. He was the last friend of someone who just died in front of him.
He grimaced at the body but immediately regretted it since it was disrespectful. He put on a straight face as approached the body.
He tentatively closed the eyelids of her white eyes.
"Sweet dreams, dear princess," he spoke softly, as he shut the eyelids.
He straightened his back and stared at the purple saddlebag that belonged to his friend.
He picked up the bag and fished for the note she had talked about. He felt like he was going through something private, however, she did give him permission to do so.
He found a folded piece of paper, and he set down the bag. He paid his full focus on the small paper in his hoof. He unfolded it.
There was a long paragraph on the note. He set aside the note and observed his surroundings to make sure nopony was watching.
He gaped at the note before reading it.
To anypony who is reading,
This is a suicide note. If you are reading this, then you are my little, special, friend. There is nopony who would ever befriend me. And I just want to say... I-I'm so sorry... What did I do wrong? I-Is it my attitude? I-Is it my voice? I-I don't... understand.
Let's forget those now.
But, you, my little, friend, will always be my special somepony. After I die, I will be your guardian through any hard times, any problems, and anything you need. Don't worry, I won't be a scary ghost who'll haunt you for the rest of eternity.
You may ask, why are you doing this? Well, because I wanted to give something I can never get. And I will be, now and forever, Your Best Friend.
Your Guardian,
Vega Sagittarius
He looked up, and scanned his surroundings once more. Nothing.
He set his gaze towards the dead mare, and he slowly, respectfully approached her. He sat down beside the corpse, and he leaned closer. He whispered something in her ear.
"I'll always be there for you," he whispered.
He stood up from the snow, and he looked over to the direction of the Crystal Empire.
He grabbed the bag of the deceased, and of course the suicide letter. He trekked towards the empire, but did not hurry at all. He'll come back with some help.
As he continued to trot away from her, he cannot get those last words out of his head.
"You'll always be my friend..."
He thought of the mare, and what she did. He was thinking of those last words, however when he thought of them it didn't come out as gurgled words, it came out in a beautiful, clear voice.
The corners of his lips curled up. He, for the first time since her fateful passing, smiled. A genuine smile. He sighed as he said it himself.
"In this world full of innocence and malevolence, you'll always stand out. Because you are my best friend."
As he moved away from her, he suddenly felt a tingly sensation. It didn't feel hostile or anything like that. It felt... comforting. The stallion smiled as he continued to walk through the great expanses of snow.
He truly didn't feel alone.
