Across The Pond
Decadence of Dignity
Previous ChapterNext ChapterShotherra was leaning against the building directly across from the Sabre Cat obsessed, rich Khajiit's home. Waiting. She wasn't sure for what, but she felt she should wait, and her instincts have never lead her astray before.
She was growing restless. She started to extent her claws and retract them. Back and forth, back and forth, almost rhythmically until she grew bored of that too.
Just as she was about to curse her instincts for wasting her time she saw her target walking towards the mansion. She leaned back into the building, watching as the unicorn walked along side some Imperial. 'I'll have to remember to kill him later,' Shotherra thought to herself.
She watched as the Imperial lead her to the mansion and stopped in front. 'They seem to be gazing at the large banners, I wonder why' Shotherra thought.
Then they started moving towards the door. 'Is this Imperial working for that Aramoth fellow Torrvar was telling me about? He didn't mention anything about an Imperial' Shotherra thought. 'Maybe I won't have to kill him, though I should probably have a word with him later.'
"How may I help you?" asked the tall, skinny Khajiit dressed in fine clothes who opened the door to Vallius and Twilight. The Khajiit then looked to Twilight and said, "Oh yes, my master has been expecting you, right this way." The fancily dressed Khajiit said, motioning for the two to come inside.
They walked in, not knowing what to expect. "Wait here and I will fetch my master" the Khajiit told them before leaving.
Twilight and Vallius looked around. The room was almost complete marble. The floors were a solid, light colored marble that lead into finely detailed pillars. The stairway made of the same material with the same detailing as the support pillars.
"Whoa" Twilight said in awe.
"Can you image how much all this must have cost" Vallius responded.
"Ahh, there you are" came an echoing voice from atop the staircase. At the top stood a short Khajiit, whom was very well dressed, even compared to his butler. In his had was a large brown sack of some sort that he held firmly.
"My name is Ra'Sakhar, and I am just simply delighted to make your acquaintanceship" said Ra'Sakhar.
"He talks like Rarity" Twilight mused.
When Ra'Sakhar reached the first floor he looked Twilight over before saying "I'm glad to see no harm has come to her."
Vallius responded with "that's right, went through a lot to make sure of it."
"Well take this for your troubles" Ra'Sakhar said as he handed the brown sack to Vallius. Vallius took it slowly then opened it the same way. In it were what Vallius estimated to be about five thousand Septims.
"Five thousand Septims?" Vallius asked.
"Why is it not enough?" Ra'Sakhar asked.
"Uh, no. It's plenty" Vallius said with a grin, not wanting to give the Khajiit reason to take it back.
"Very good, off you go then we have much to attend to" Ra'Sakhar said. "And say hello to Lord Aramoth for me."
"Who?" Vallius asked.
"Oh right, no names, my apologies" Ra'Sakhar told Vallius. Vallius just stared confused at Ra'Sakhar, then to Twilight. Twilight just shrugged.
"Well I'll be off then, Twilight it was nice meeting you" Vallius said with that same dopey grin. He was never one for long, drawn out goodbyes. Twilight motioned for him to come closer and when he did Twilight hugged him. "It was nice meeting you too" she said.
Shotherra saw Vallius leave the building with money still in hand. She watched as he gave it a light toss in the air and grasped it in his hands before pocketing the money. Then he looked around and started north for Imperial City. Shotherra followed.
Torrvar walked into the inn. It was noon and the inn was empty save for the bard and inn keeper. 'The bard' Torrvar thought. Surely he had seen the unicorn, and Aramoth ordered all who had come in direct contact be eliminated.
Torrvar still stood by the door, the inn keeper watching him while the bard played some melody. Torrvar reopened the door and flipped the sign around before allowing it to close. He then moved the nearby bench to block the door from opening, ignoring questions from the inn keeper.
The bard had stopped playing and was now eyeing Torrvar suspiciously. Torrvar didn't need information from the bard so he walked over and grabbed the bards lute from his hands. The bard looked astonished but the looked only widened when Torrvar snapped it in half. breaking the strumming area from the fret board.
The bard was yelling now, but Torrvar wasn't listening. Torrvar was far too busy observing the two pieces of lute he had made before dropping the larger piece, keeping the fret board in his hand. Torrvar clutched it tightly.
"Now now, we don't want any trouble" the inn keeper said.
"It's a little late for trouble my friend" Torrvar said. after saying this he turned and plunged the fret board into the throat of the bard. The bard struggled, clawing and grabbing onto the fret board for a moment before falling over.
Torrvar looked the inn keeper in the eye, watching as shock turn to realization, and realization to fear.
"I just want to ask you a few questions Khajiit" Torrvar said. "And if you cooperate your death will be much less painful and far more quick."
"What do you want from me, I'm just an poor old inn keeper, I know nothing" the inn keeper said, panic now taking over.
"Now we both know that's a lie" Torrvar said.
"What do you mean?" said the inn keeper meekly.
"About three days ago a purple unicorn came in this place, is that correct?" asked Torrvar, he knew it was correct but wanted to see if his new friend would try to deny it.
"Aye, a purple unicorn was here, but she is gone now, left with two guys. They-" the inn keeper was cut off.
"Tell me about these two" Torrvar told the inn keeper.
"Why?" asked the inn keeper. "What are you going to do."
"Don't ask stupid questions you know the answer to and just answer mine." Torrvar said sternly.
"An Imperial with the legion and some Khajiit sailor" the inn keeper said. "That's all I know."
"Is that really all you know?" asked Torrvar.
"Yes" the inn keeper said.
"Well you see, I just can't accept that" Torrvar said. "I mean they were in your cozy little inn here for quite some time. All night actually. So forgive me if I find it hard to believe all you found out was that much." Torrvar said, walking over to the inn keeper.
This is the part he enjoyed. Him talking and his soon to be victim listening, hanging on every word he said. It filled him with what he could only every describe as a euphoria. This must be what Foroch feels in the middle of a good fight, Torrvar thought.
"I don't remember everything they said" the inn keeper said, shrinking back as Torrvar approached.
"Oh, is that right?" Torrvar asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes sir" the inn keeper told Torrvar.
"Come now, you remember" Torrvar's voice came out loud and sounded more like an accusation.
Though the inn keeper was visibly shaking, after a few moments he found the courage to say "It's the only thing keeping me alive."
Torrvar raised an eyebrow and asked "So you won't tell me?"
"No" the inn keeper said flatly, now shaking more violently.
Torrvar sighed. "Then I guess we have to do this the hard way."
