Memory Heights

"Nothing, lots and lots of nothing." She thought as she lay in a bed while waiting for her senses to return. She could only vaguely feel the bed underneath her, and in the distance she could her hear own rythmic breathing. All she could do was wait. She had no memory and already knew that she hated waiting. Absently she tried to remember anything...

Nothing, well almost nothing. Because as soon as she stopped trying to remembering anything, she faintly heard a voice say.
"You're a laugh Twilight Sparkle, I cant wait to hang out with you more." the voice was full of mirth and happiness. And as soon as it had appeared it dissapeared.
...
...
...
Again with the waiting. She began to count her own breathing.
"one, two, three, four."

"Eight thousand ninehundred and ninety nine, nine thousand, nine thousand and one."

Suddenly she felt acutely aware that there was a needle in her arm and she jerked awake taking control of her senses and bolting into a sitting position, jamming the stationary needle deeper into her foreleg. Her eyes widened with that sharp sensation now deeper into her leg. Her rear leg instinctively kicked upwards.

Unfourtunately on the recieving end of said kick was a white nurse pony. Her chin took the brunt of the hit and she fell to the ground with a thump.

There was another pony in the room, a tall red unicorn, with wings?

"Well not exactly the best possible start." Said the red alicorn.

The sight of a pony with wings and a horn caused a series of flashes, and sensations to run through her brain. After about a minute she found herself on the floor looking up at the red pony.

"Am i supposed to know you?" She said as she looked up but he was already gone.

Twelve or so minutes later the nurse woke up. The patient tried to apologize but the nurse would have none of it.

"Nonsense, Rainbow Dash it was simply a knee jerk reaction, after all it was a stimulant to try and get you out of your coma."

She now had two new facts about herself, one the fact that her name was rainbow dash, and two that she had been sleeping for the past who knows how many days.

"So how long was i asleep, nurse..." Dash asked the mare.

"Its redheart and you were out cold for about a week, everypony's been so worried about you. Espessialy your 'friend' Applejack."

"Who's Applejack?" The cyan pony asked with a confused look on her face.

"Well she's your best friend don't you remember that?" Nurse redheart exclaimed. "Oh this is not good, not the end of ponyville, but still pretty bad! Okay so, apparently you have amnesia, you have two options, one using unstable technology we would dive into the embedded data inside your deoxyrybonucleic acid therefore either restoring your memory or giving you a missing strand of said acid, or we could have a doctor try to restore your memory. Now the doctor would have to live with you for a certain time, as to get ahold of your bodies habits and essentially reboot your brain to the last memory through familiar actions and reactions." The nurse finished with a smile.

Rainbow dash looked at nurse Redheart with a look of utter bewilderment.

The nurse let out a sigh and said "You can either live out the past twenty years of years of your life, or you can have somepony live with you for the next two or so months."

"Um, lets go with option two please." The prismatic pegasus said with an embarrased smile.

"Okay then we'll have you live with Twilight Sparkle, the towns librarian and expert on magic. We'll have The Doctor visit from time to time." The nurse said with a smile. "Now can i remove that needle?"

Dash winced as she remembered the needle, and nodded. After the nurse had removed the needle the patient asked.

"wait you never said the doctors name, how am i supposed to know who he is?" she asked

"Oh, that, well you see he doesnt exactly have a family name so everyone just calls him the doctor, he may be a bit accentric but he's the expert on memory here. Despite him being an earth pony." she seemed to growl slightly at the end of the sentence. "Well if thats all cleared up, i believe that we can check you out of the hospital, on one condition. You will not attempt to flirt with the doctor. Understood? Good, i'll go get the paperwork." With a smile she walked out of the room leaving dash to her thoughts.

She would be staying with Twilight Sparkle, the pony whose name was mentioned in her flashback before, that and the fact that the doctor had such a strange name, and would probobly bring all manner of strange medical equipment(it goes ding when there's stuff!).

The nurse returned quickly with a few papers on a clipboard, and had Rainbow take a physical test to make sure she was okay, other than the fact that she had no memory.

Thirty minutes later the pegasus was walking out of the hospital, and she saw the blue sky. Her wings instinctually spread and before she realized it she was hovering a few feet off the ground. Soon she was climbing towards one of the clouds and she looked down on an impulse. Her vision swam and she landed as soon as she could, as she was descending she saw a red blur dart from one cloud to another. She felt sick to her stomach, and probobly would have vomited had she not repressed the urge, all willpower being forced on the action of not vomiting her breakfast she was probobly fed through a tube.

After what felt like an eternity she felt a tap on her shoulder, she looked up to see a concerned looking purple unicorn.

"Are you okay? I mean the only time i've ever seen you look so sick was when you caught the feather flu from thunder la..." she trailed off as she saw the cyan pony's expression of confusion.

"And who are you? Some sort of magician?" The prismatic pony asked with trpedation.

"Oh come on dash we've known each other for the past two years, don't criticize my magic." She said with a huff.

"No not that, how do you know my name and Who Are You. Stop rambling for five seconds and get the context right and not the fine details." Dash said.

"What are you..?"

"Look i dont know! I dont know okay! I dont remember anything, i don't know anyone, i couldn't even remember my own name when i woke up this morning, afternoon whatever!" she said on the verge of tears.

"Wow you aren't joking, are you?. Look if your being serious my name is Twilight Sparkle..." she trailed off again as Rainbows eyes opened wide and winced as the pegasus fell over backwards unconcious. The unicorn sighed and picked up dash with her magic and set off for the library.
