Rainbow's Reign
Part One: A Spell Like No Other
Load Full StoryNext ChapterThe air Twilight hurried through was grey and humid. She was just getting back from the Crystal Empire, and with the wind blowing on her mane gently, she stopped for only a second to look up at the sky, and noticed that she could hardly see any stars through the dense overcast. Secured in her saddlebag was a scroll she had insisted on taking home with her. Twilight had gotten only a few chances here and there to actually look at the writings within it, but when she did, she could tell that it involved mind control.
Nopony had perfected a capable mind control spell yet. At least, not one that worked correctly, so to find something so ancient, and barely in one piece was an amazing thing all on its own. Some of the writings were utterly destroyed, and to make matters worse, certain parts of it had these strange holes in it. This made the scroll even less legible.
These sections almost looked deliberately cut out, too, so that one almost couldn’t go through with any tests. Twilight wasn’t about to allow that to stop her, though. There was still enough in the scroll for her to proceed with the spell, or so she thought. She would have to improvise with the rest. Not only that, but the possibility of being able to teach ponies how to enslave others was obviously something Twilight had to keep secret.
Coming up to her castle doors, and coming into the grand establishment, she thought aloud, “Otherwise, if this spell were to fall into the wrong hooves, who knows what sort of mayhem might befall Equestria!”
Trotting along that evening in the hallways, and not even noticing the blue streaks above head hidden within the shadows of the chandeliers, Twilight continued talking to herself. "Now, of course, I’ll definitely have to learn it in case of another catastrophe happening." She whispered, "And… if I happen to end up having a little fun here and there, nopony will know."
The intruding pegasus above Twilight chuckled, and leaped again as silently as she could, but Twilight still heard her. The Princess quickly glanced around her shoulder, and then upwards, but with her seeing nothing there except the chandeliers wobbling a bit, she didn’t pay much else attention to the noise.
The Princess sighed, but continued with what she was saying. "Now... if Queen Chrysalis attacks again, this spell might be useful. After all, she swore vengeance on Starlight Glimmer..." Twilight opened the doors to the throne room, and entered, but hadn’t closed the doors just yet. She stood for just a second more, looking around, saying, "I’ll need an assistant… Spike wouldn’t work out. The scroll already describes how you can only enslave other ponies."
"So much for if a dragon moves back into one of the neighboring mountains again, like that one time. Huh, Twi?" Rainbow called out from behind her. Twilight gasped upon discovering that Rainbow had been listening in this entire time.
"Rainbow Dash?!"
The pegasus leaped down from the ceiling to give herself a dramatic entrance, and landed gracefully behind the doorway. "We’d have to get rid of it the old fashion way, rather than trying to enslave it."
"You were listening?" Twilight asked with great concern. "Wh-what’re you even doing here?"
Rainbow rolled her eyes with a grin. "Oh, come on, Twilight! I came to see how your visit to the Crystal Empire went."
Twilight stared at Rainbow, unamused.
Rainbow gave up after a few seconds of giving Twilight her best poker face. "Alright, fine!" She scratched the back of her neck in defeat. "I was headed home from helping Fluttershy with her animal sanctuary when I overheard you talking to yourself."
Twilight sighed, irritation in her tone. "I wanted to keep this secret, Rainbow."
"Hey, it’s alright," Rainbow assured Twilight while walking around her. "Why do you think I didn't stay in hiding? You need an assistant?" She leaned on her very own throne with a shoulder. "You got one."
Twilight asked Rainbow forwardly, "Really, Rainbow Dash? Are you sure? You realize I’ll literally be enslaving you, right?"
"Well, nopony else would probably wanna go through with something like having their minds enslaved," Rainbow confessed. "The way I see things, it would be a whole new experience! By the way, if you need to test the spell even more by giving me a few commands, just be... creative. Don't hold back, either."
She looked at Twilight in a way that always flustered her Highness, and for a second there, Twilight almost seemed to blush. She quickly giggled Rainbow’s suggestive comment away. "Right," Twilight said with a quirky smile. "I’d, uh, only enslave you for a minute, and then I’d quickly undo the spell."
Rainbow merely groaned at Twilight. "So, how do we go about doing this exactly?"
Twilight consulted the scroll. "To be honest with you, this spell is so old, and there’s parts where I’ll have to fill in the gaps... What I’ll be doing is…" Twilight double checked the scroll. "Yeah, I’ll cast it on you, I think. Then, you’ll become my slave!" She frowned, and said, "It… still sounds evil no matter how I put that."
Rainbow hoofed, and confidently stated, "No problem. I’m sure with you behind the wheel, everything will be fine! So, let’s get on with it."
Twilight unrolled the scroll some more. "Not so fast, Rainbow. I still need to read a little bit more, here." Her eyes moved back and forth while her hoof traced line after line, and while Twilight was so immersed in figuring this out to the best of her ability, Rainbow asked, "Anything I should know about?"
Twilight didn’t look away, but she still responded. “Well, for starters, I doubt you’ll remember anything after I cast the spell on you. After that, you’re free to go. I’ll probably need some privacy in order to catalog my findings anyways, and to get some rest.”
Rainbow flirted with Twilight even more by asking, “Guess that means I can’t spend the night, huh?”
Twilight rolled her eyes. “Where would you even sleep?”
Rainbow opened her mouth to speak, but Twilight cut her off before she got her chance.
“Nevermind! Don’t answer that, actually.” She still kept reading, too, fixated with making sure everything was just right. “I suppose I’m ready,” she said after finally rolling up the scroll.
Rainbow positioned herself as though she was about to be blasted through the walls. “I know I’m Ready!”
Twilight nodded, smiling. She had no awareness whatsoever of the tragedy that was about to befall her. However, she did notice her heart beating faster and faster. Rainbow felt anxious as well, but neither of the mares said anything about it. Soon, Twilight’s horn was in full glow, with pretty, pink sparks jolting every which direction.
The humming soon engulfed Rainbow, and it hardly felt like any such spell being placed upon her. If anything, were it not for Twilight’s aura growing brightly all around her, Rainbow might’ve questioned if Twilight was truly doing anything at all. It wasn’t until Rainbow began to feel herself levitate off the floor that she started feeling different.
It was a much deeper feeling of both warm and icy temperatures. Rainbow’s whole body felt lighter, with tingling sensations coursing through her hooves. She could’ve sworn she was flying without the use of her wings. Then, the sensations stopped abruptly, and Rainbow realized she had never even left the ground to begin with.
She collapsed, her whole mass feeling heavier than ever all of the sudden, and her head was spinning, too. Things turned bleak, but after colliding with the floor, through the shades of her eyelashes, Rainbow could see Twilight standing there. She stayed perfectly still, making Rainbow more than tempted to try and get up, but her hooves had gone completely numb.
Without question, if something had gone wrong, Twilight would’ve addressed it by now. With this in mind, Rainbow kept lying there, disoriented, and a bit confused. Eventually, she’d come around, and stand back up shakily only to ask Twilight without at first looking at her, “D-did it work?”
Twilight said nothing. Most of her face remained covered by her mane, but something about the whites of her eyes were irregular. Rainbow came close, not speaking a word. She rose Twilight’s head up with a hoof, and then bounded back with a gasp.
Twilight now looked at Rainbow with great attention aimed towards her. A spectrum line could also be seen beyond Twilight’s pupils. It remained stationary rather than twirling in circles, and even when she blinked, one could still see the colors doing their best to stay visible. Twilight stepped forward, and for a moment, it looked to Rainbow as though she were about to speak, but she didn’t.
She just looked down with a smile, and breathed out her nose rather hard. Rainbow asked her friend with worry, “Twilight? What’s happened?”
Twilight looked at Rainbow with a guilty expression, and revealed, “I messed up.”
This was not the answer Rainbow would've wanted at first, so she asked Twilight, “What do you mean you messed up?"
“Well, I thought I needed an assistant, and that I should cast the spell on them. Turns out I didn’t need an assistant after all, and that I should’ve cast the spell on myself. In other words, Rainbow Dash… I’ve just granted you the ability to enslave anypony you want, and make them do as you please.”
Rainbow backed away even more, right into the wall, and asked, “Wh-what?! How?”
Twilight came close to stand right before Rainbow, and said, “All you have to do is look at them, and they’ll be yours… Like me. I couldn’t free myself right now even if I tried, which I already have. At least I know the inner workings of this spell now, thanks to being one of your… subjects.”
Rainbow looked away, her choices piling up before her. Under normal circumstances, she’d be loyal, and give Twilight the command to undo the spell. However, these weren’t normal circumstances. Rainbow couldn’t place her hoof on why it was, but she could feel her cheeks turning redder after every word spoken by Twilight.
With her wings extending slightly, she asked Twilight, “I can… command you, Princess Twilight Sparkle... and anypony else for that matter… to do what I want, no matter what it might be?”
Twilight nodded, and though she still wore that same, unusual smile, she also looked worried. “Yes, Rainbow Dash. Whatever you want.”
Rainbow rubbed her chin with a hoof. She wasn’t that easily fooled into taking the bait, however. “Uh-huh, and Twilight? Just how do I know this isn’t a trap? Or a prank?”
Twilight blinked, but appeared to have nothing to hide. “Well, test it if you don’t believe me. Either that, or you could… you know. Have me undo the spell.”
Rainbow’s eyebrows raised, and she asked, “And miss out on all the fun I could have with this? Sorry, Twilight, but no can do!”
She looked around the room, and soon, her vision fell upon the shelves of books found directly behind Twilight. The alicorn turned around, and even gave a tiny gasp. "No," Twilight began to plead, but Rainbow ended that rather quickly.
"Are you, or aren't you my slave?"
Twilight's eyes glowed even more after hearing that, and she bowed her head. "Y-yes, Rainbow Dash. I'm so sorry. I am... your slave."
Rainbow backed away, and breathed before stating, "Woah... That's a little dark, actually. Anyways, here's what I want you to do."
Rainbow looked at Twilight who was waiting for her to respond. "What is it?"
Rainbow gave a sly chuckle, and said in a commanding voice, "I see these are organized in alphabetic order. Reorganize this bookshelf in a chaotic order instead! Simple enough, huh? There's no way you'd do that unless you were under some kind of spell."
Rainbow's confidence didn't matter, because Twilight was already getting to work. Her eyes were closed, but the spectrum lights kept seeping through her shut eyelids. When she opened them, she would be done, and Rainbow just stared. Twilight turned around, and gulped her frustrations away. "Inside, I hated doing that, but I have no choice."
Every last book was randomly placed. Some were even left opened, and placed on top of all the other books. Rainbow gulped while blinking several times at this, and she then paced the floor for a good minute or two. Then, she stopped, and looked at Twilight with squinted eyes. "Any order I give, ponies have to obey? I like that!"
Under her breath, Twilight whispered, "I don't..."
"What was that?"
Twilight scrunched her muzzle, and said, "I don't suppose you know what you'll do with that sort of power?"
Rainbow just kept looking at Twilight suspiciously, and said, "Well, first, I think I'll just let you in on a little secret." Then, with passionate eyes, Rainbow began kissing Twilight tenderly. Twilight, who seemed surprised at first started to loosen herself up to Rainbow, and even enjoyed it a little. Once their lips parted, Rainbow said, "I've had this tiny, silly crush on you. I mean, you're pretty good looking for an egghead! And, besides, it's not like you'll remember this. Right?"
Twilight breathed, and was about to tell Rainbow something else about the spell that she had only just learned of, but then, she stopped herself. Twilight would actually be remembering all of this, her being the only one due to also being the original spell caster, but she wanted to see the look on Rainbow's face when she told her this at the end.
In truth, Twilight planned to surrender herself to Rainbow for the time being. She just hoped that she could somehow work Rainbow away from the thought of leaving for even more pleasures elsewhere. Although, that was going to be a bit difficult under these wild circumstances.
