Julius Sombra was the son of royalty, the son of King Sombra who was one day destined to succeed his father as ruler of the Crystal Empire. However, after murdering Princess Amore, the Crystal Empire's previous ruler, he was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole in Tartarus. Now, thanks to some unexpected help from Cerberus wandering from his post and his fellow prisoner, Lord Tirek, Julius escapes vowing to regroup and fulfill his father's wishes to take command of not only the Crystal Empire, but all of Equestria as well.

However, Equestria's four princesses along with their former enemy turned ally, Discord, join forces and together they seek to recapture Julius Sombra once and for all...dead or alive.
