Proving Quantum Mechanics With Ponies
Epilogue: A Letter to the Princess
Previous ChapterEpilogue: A Letter to the Princess
Dear Princess Celestia,
When I received your last letter I was confused beyond anything you had sent me before. I had no idea it would be, or even could be, completed. But now, even as I write this letter tonight, I see the pain losing somepony can bring one, but also the immense joy one feels when loving somepony. And, if I wanted to or not, over the course of three months, I completed the two part assignment you had given me.
In response to part A:
About four months ago a strange being appeared in town by means of some alien technology neither he nor I knew how to control. So, in the absence of knowledge, we filled each other with our own. We became good friends during the three months I knew him, learning about one another and sharing information about our separate worlds. I truly grew to love him, but I will never know if he reciprocated the feeling.
In response to part B:
You said the parts did not have to be done together but, as luck would have it, they were. We worked at reassembling the machine that brought him here. Eventually, we completed it, but upon testing the stability of the “Einstein-Rosen bridge”—that was his name for it—a malfunction in the system created a total event collapse. In order to save our world and his, he sacrificed himself. That machine was both blessed and cursed. I feel the hole in my chest, my lungs, my heart that can’t be mended but with time. It’s a pervasive pain. But I can, and will stand it as long as I still have the memory of him.
I refuse to believe that he is dead; I just know he is never coming back.
—Your faithful student
